I was wondering... it seems everyone has accepted the sad fact that underground road pieces such as these can not have full 'functionallity' in the game.
But look at the elevated rail-subway connection. As soon as it's connected to the subway, trains really are visible below the ground level. Maybe this is old news, but if not than maybe the modd squad can do something with this information. It would be great to see these underpasses work.

the main problem is that to make these work properly you need to make them 'network pieces' at the moment they are lots, the same with the Sub to El, we tried to make these 'network pieces' but the game seemed to refuse to show them underground

the7trumpets said he could do the underpass with network tiles instead of lots, exept that it was underground.   I think the solution is to dig a hole so it is not underground.

A few pictures to show what I mean...

4 plops of my hole digging lot.

/idealbb/files/dig

Drag tracks over them (takes less than 5 seconds)...

/idealbb/files/dig

Bullboze the tracks (and hole digging lots).

/idealbb/files/dig

Now you have a ditch that you can build the underpass in.

This process is more complicated than just plopping a lot, but it is still quite easy.

Regarding the ave-ave overpass, I have a problem where the traffic that is going underneath the bridge likes to migrate to the intersecting ave. I don't know if anyone else had this problem or if it is supposed to do this.

I believe the solution to your underpass/overpass ave-ave problem lies within the highway-highway crossing where there is no coverleaf... If you can investigate how they managed to cross two highways without having traffic jumping from one to another then you should be able to do an avenue-avenue over or underpass...

But I don't really see the point of having avenue overpass othe avenues since you can do that using an elevated highway. I think it is much more interesting to have roads overpass or underpass avenues...

But just keep with your work!

There does not seem to be much interest here in my underpass ideas, but I will try one more picture.  Below is an example of the kind of underpass I am thinking of.  It does not work, but could if there was the right kind of puzzle piece (4x2 tiles).

swamper77,
I briefly described how the digging lot was made a few days ago in this thread.  If you want the current (crude) copy, you can PM me will a mail address.  I will also need to know what you will be mostly using it for (rail, road, avenue, etc.) so that I can set the height  (I made it to dig tunnel entrances).

Woah, how did you do your tunnels like that, with the retaining walls? /me wants to know!

The rail tracks with retaining walls are custom lots..the rest are just ordinary tracks..

Sepsis,

Your big covered railway station looks very interesting/impressive/realistic... Is it work of your own? Would you share it with other users from the STEX?

Cheers,

Well, this is an old (pre-BAT) lot I made back in November.
It's part of a large travel centre that includes underground, monorail and bus station.

Haven't really thought of releasing it on the STEX, but I might do that after added a qustom query and done some small changes. (like removing the mayor/dictator's picture 9.gif)

That terminal looks really kewl, I really like those retaining wall lots with the rail you used. They look really realistic. I was looking at a picture of Toronto and the rails going into the city look just like what you have there.

The train and monorail are made by Oppie. (The train's colours are my own though)

Hi, has anyone attempted to make a one-way road/rail underpass?  I would try to make one but I lack the ability to make the new props.   Thanx.

There are plenty of one way roads over/underpasses for tracks/roads/avenues/highways/etc

What you want/need is the network mod that can be found in the Network Addon Mod Thread or in the MODs download section or here

There are no road under rail underpasses like the Marrast versions.  I would like for someone to make some one-way road under rail passes, please.

I noticed when changing a few lots in DatGen's EasyTweaker that the transit routes can be set to work in specific directions, which might be part of the solution. Try using EasyTweaker and go to page 9 in it to see the different directions which can be used.

As for the underpasses: Great job, they look beautiful Marrat, tnx for them.

Still taking requests? I wonder if it is possible to make tunnels using your method? Or rather avenues/highways/roads which are in a 'ditch' and with growable residential/commercial over. It would be perfect for a Berlin look where large towering buildings exists over the highways, and make it all look very futuristic.

I don't have pics from Berlin, though, my cam was at a repair shop the one time I visited 8.gif

And Marrat, 7trumpets and all, I hope you'll team together on the transportation modding...I heard someone mentioning highways with a monorail in the center...now wouldn't that look nice?

Take a look at this :
IntroScreenshot.jpg

I believe I have managed to solve the UDI & Civic vehicles problem with these underpasses. If you want to know more about the technicalities see https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=55210&pageNo=1 in Modding-Research and Development. I have made a mod that replaces Marrast and Zilfondel's lot definitions with versions that when placed correctly will (on my setup at least) allow UDI and Civic vehicles (in fact all vehicle automata) through the underpasses.

There are still the following issues : (taken from the readme)

A. Plopping procedure
Follow the following procedure when plopping in order to ensure that these lots work for UDI/Civic vehicles :
1. Plop the lot
2. For the upper network (rail or avenue) drag the network across the lot.
3. For the lower network (road or avenue) drag the network from each end up to the underpass tile (as far as the game will allow the drag to go).

B. Avenue median props
For the avenue underpasses dragging the networks over the lot will result in median props being placed by the game which ruin the visual effect. To remove these simply bulldoze the lot and follow the plopping procedure again. This time the median props should not appear

C. Vehicles on the lower network disappear when below ground level (except for UDI)
The way the underpass has been rendered, the cars become invisible whilst they are below ground level (except in UDI when they show in green). This could be fixed by re-rendering the model with custom LODs and using the 'invalid base texture' trick (See NDEX's subway to rail transition piece) but would require Marrast's GMAX model which I do not have.

Since this is all fairly new stuff (AFAIK no-one has done this already) there may well be problems, but please give this a try and post whether it worked for you. I don't want to put this on the STEX until I've at least a few reports of it behaving reliably.

The mod is attached or you can download it from http://website.lineone.net/~dscdm/Files/Underpasses/UnderpassUDIEnable120904.zip if you don't want to use Simtropolis's bandwidth.

Enjoy 1.gif

Chris.

This stuff looks interesting now that we can get the UDI and civic stuff working for these.

BTW, I downloaded what I thought was the latest version of the Marrast underpasses, but I don't seem to have the double-rail one pictured abover.  Am I missing something?
