  1. Thank you normalize for pointing this out. Looks like the author has posted it in full online here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/53630891/In-Praise-of-the-Urban-Sandbox
  2. Looks like the APA just released their May/June edition of their magazine (last night). The current issue is usually free to view online at that website so the April edition that the article appears in is now not viewable without an account... just missed it. Wish I could post it but I dont know about permissions and rights so I wont.
  3. Hi Everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this please correct me if I am wrong - I searched and saw no one else had posted as well. I found this great article written by Jeff Ferzoco from the the Regional Plan Association in New York City called "In Praise of the Urban Sandbox" in the American Planning Associations magazine April 2011 edition. It generally discusses city building games including the Caesar series, SimCity, CitiesXL, Cities in Motion and others in their development and influence on planners and real world decision making. It also specifically mentions Simtropolis! Very good overview and discussion of these simulation games in a broader context and their relevance and influence today in the world. Feel free to discuss your thoughts on this. Check it out here: http://www.planning.org/planning/default.htm'>http://www.planning.org/planning/default.htm If the link isn't working for you try going here: http://www.planning.org/planning/ and clicking on the article in the April edition called: "In Praise of the Urban Sandbox".
  4. Albany and Capital District NY

Yes, I know that problem too. All you have to do is after you import the map in sc4 and have the weird colors, you just need to go into each city tile and save it. The region map will then return to normal without the weird colors, may be time consuming but solves the problem.
  5. Bradford PA

Remember to fix the elevation with Sc4 terraformer you might have to re-deepen the rivers... look at my picture for reference.
  6. Albany and Capital District NY

Im not sure what the problem is, try doing it again, remember to load it in sc4 terraformer to raise the water and fix elevation and such...
  7. Operation Buffalo Wing: A Blizzard of BAT

Hey sargeantcm, I found a google sketch up file of the empire state plaza online here: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=f5407fdf83bbaa589acf49900a4ddaf6&prevstart=0 If you download the file and open it with googleearth you can move around and zoom in and out of the whole plaza with all the buildings to see what they look like and placement.

  12. I was just wondering if there are any statistics or web statistics for simtropolis to see where the majority (%) of members are located like by country, state or city or urban to rural... Just a neat geography experiment that can be completely anonymous.

Note: Please use Sc4 Terraformer and raise elevation for correct height and to raise the height of the valley hills as shown in the picture. This is a map of Bradford, PA; a small oil town, nestled among rolling valley hills in north western PA with a small, manmade, redirected stream running through it. Bradford is located near Warren, PA and is next to the NY border and Allegany Mountains. This map was created from USGS data and as so must be terraformed to correct for elevation and for water. Please use Sc4 Terraformer and raise elevation for correct height and to raise the height of the valley hills as seen in the picture.
