How many students went to your highschool?

I would've liked to make a poll but I have a few different questions about the capacities of your school and the size of your city.

How many students went to your highschool?  (Total Capacity)

What is the approximate number of people in your school district or city?

What are some realistsic capacities to give to the maxis schools and hospitals for small, medium, and large sizes?

Thanks in advance for your answers.  I am trying to add some realistic capacities to the in-game schools and hospitals.  Right now I have:

Small:       5,000 capacity, $3,500 monthly cost

Medium:   25,000 capacity, $12,500 monthly cost

Large:       100,000 capacity, $30,000 monthly cost

This may be way too much as I dont know of any school or hospital with a capacity for 100,000 people.  I am trying to find a balance between not having to place so many of these buildings in the game, and realistic capacities.  Please offer your suggestions.

Thanks

In my high school we were about 800 - 1000, I think. That's rather large for a high school were I come from, but then I grew up in a sparsely populated area.

At my university we are well over 30,000.

That is the school with the most students in the entire world. It has 32 000 students. I'd say 100 000 is way too high to be realistic.

Oh, and my school (can possibly be classed as a high school, I don't know) has about 700 students. It's medium large among the 19 schools in an area with a population of 150,000.

When I went to school, here in the UK, many years ago now......

I lived in a town of 100,000 and there were 5 high schools and the largest was 1200 pupils, mine was the smallest with 800. Guessing that there were 1000 in the other 3 that puts 5000 in high schools out of 100,000.

I could probably work out primary schools as well, given some time

My highschool has 1900 students and my highschool's total capacity is 2400. The total population for my town is 24,000 people.

My school had about 1,200 students in grades 5-12, but I'd guess about 1,000 actually in high school (8-12).

As for the city, it has a population of about 2 million. The suburb it was in has a population of around 5000, but a lot of students (such as myself) came from further afield.

There are quite a few more schools in the city, of course.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

My high school was about 2400 also. Its located in a town of 34,000 so, like others have said, a large school with 100,000 would be too much. id say it would go more along the lines of--

Small - 50-500

Medium - 501-1200

Large - 1201-3000

Price wise, you can do some research about costs if you need to. Some schools have budget reports on their websites.

(yes, there are small high schools with about 50 kids. Theres one around where i live that has 50 in the high school. but its also a k-12 school)

My highschool has about 1200....my graduating class has about 300. I live in a HUGE town (in size) because my town's population is 18,000. This town has a picturesque mainstreet and beautiful beaches. I guess you could say it's rural-suburban Connecticut.

My high school was an interesting case. It served a much larger area than most suburban schools, serving all of San Marcos, California (population about 75,000 or so) as the ONLY public high school until the year 2004, when a new high school was built. That year, we had about 3000 students, and considering it was a medium-sized school, it was extremely overcrowded, with most of the students having at least one class in a temporary building. My senior class (2005, who didn't go to the new school for their final year) was ridiculously large even though half of the remaining three grade-levels went to the new school, and that easily reduced the student population to about 1800 or so. As of 2009 (according to wikipedia) it has an enrollment of 2000 (the new high school is probably slightly less) and the entire district is about 18,000.

Either way, although I think your capacities are at least a factor of ten higher than normal capacities of real life, given the population densities of SimCity it might work out okay. I don't try to compare populations between the two since I don't use any mods to reduce population in residential structures.

Hey everyone,

My old school I use to go to was in a very very small town the population is about 3,000 or 4,000 people. The high school had about 800 students. The school I am in now is in a much bigger town the population is about 353,346, thats the 2009 estimation. The high school I go to has about 2000 students. My Friend said that the number of students at his high school is around 1,300 and thats on the other side of town, thats about 20 minutes from here.

Birmingham, in the Uk, second city has about 30 or 40 secondary schools, roughly ranging from 500 - 1500 capacity. Apart from the private ones

Thank you everyone for your replies!!!

It has been about 9 years since I went to school and I forgot how many students were in my class and in my school. I would really like to add realistic capacities to my schools in the game, but I might need to learn more about game mechanics and how many students are generated per SC4 household. Right now I know that households are given an average age that grows with time and can range between 20 to 100. I also know that 50% of a households occupants are in the workforce but does this mean that the rest use the cities different education buildings depending on their age?

Years ago, when I last fully played SC4, I remember that the in game school and hospital capacities were never enough. When I had large city populations I always had to build multiple buildings within the same small radius to cover that areas needs. This was kind of an eyesore so I decided to mod the radius and capacities of my buildings. With game realism and game balancing in mind, along with the help from your replies, I have made some changes to my numbers above. The new numbers are still kind of large, but their radius is larger and I can always reduce the funding to match capacities to my needs.

    Here's what I got: capacity\cost\radius\bus+ambulance cost

    Small: 2,500\$1,500\75tiles\$500 total cost=$2,000

    Medium: 5,000\$3,000\150tiles\$1,000 total cost=$4,000

    Large: 10,000\$6,000\363tiles\$2,000 total cost=$8,000

    Museums and Libraries:

    Medium: 10,000\$250\150tiles

    Large: 25,000\$500\363tiles

Colleges, Universities, and Disease Research Lab:

    Large: 25,000\$2,000\363tiles

Opera House and Farmers Market15.gifI wasn't sure if these buildings need to have citywide capacities?)

    Large: 10,000,000\$250\363

*I will test these edits out in game to see how they work. If they are too large I will post back and edit the above #s.

My high school was a middle school/high school with a capacity of 1000-1200 students (400 in the HS). This is considered small here in New York City where bigger campuses have capacities of 4000-6000 students.

my school was 650 between 9-12. there was also 2 private schools in the area that some students went to. so i would say about 900 students in grades 9-12 who lived in my town, which is about 14,000 people.

My school was a classic suburban high school. My graduating class a few years ago had 750 people. Right now I think the total student body is at least 3,400.

My county has 800,000 people and the school district has about 175,000 students.

One had 500, one had just over 2000 (both in suburbs of Vancouver, BC, Canada).

well the total captivity of my highschool is only 600, because technically the high school was in the basement of a church. when i graduated there were:

    seniors: 27

    Juniors: 49

    Sophomore: 67

    Freshmen: 112

    staff and faculty : 28

of course this would be a mini sized school though.... i might be good for a vocational academy!

BTW: the population of my city is about 1,000,000 people in the metro region... but only about 700,000 people actually living in the city.

I grew up in Clawson, Michigan, a city of about 12,000 residents.  The high school has about 500-600 students and the school district has about 1,400 students.  The city is 2.2 square miles.

I'd like to see buildings that have much large bussing radii.  It's annoying to have a bunch of high schools in a city of only 20,000 because you used low density.

We had 4,000 students in our high school, and our city size was about 160,000.  There were 9 or 10 high schools that were the same size as mine.

Real life sizes won't be very insightful for the game. The game's population numbers, its population density, the size of cities, etc. don't correspond to real life at all. If you wanted the schools to have realistic capacities, you'd have to remod all of the existing content, so that, for example, individual houses have, say, 1-6 sims living in them, instead of 15 or 20 like they normally do.

So instead, you look at the type of neighborhood you're building for in the game. If you're making a high school for a dense urban neighborhood, you can build one in the game and see how high the capacity needs to be for that neighborhood.
