Hey guys just wondering if you like to build at high altitudes, areas with no water, hilly areas, flat areas, areas with large bays, lake areas, tropical areas, river like areas, coastal areas, deserts mountinous areas, or island-like areas.41.gif Feel free to comment or talk about the topic.49.gif Just pick your choice in the poll above! 29.gifI might comment a few times too...9.gif By the way, my favorite place to build is a tropical area, because of the area's palm trees snd beautiful beaches.

My new downtown. 315k of sims and growing. 345,000 commercial jobs. 18,000 hitech industry jobs.See this what I prefer when I'm building my cities. Right next to the river.

Very nice picture Nuclear!

Yes, I chose coastal, and if we could pick more than one, my second choice would be river/flood plains. I try to build my cities similar to how American cities were founded, and just about all cities worth naming are on the coast, or on a large navigable waterway. Really the only large popular US city that "sprang up from nowhere" was Las Vegas, and that was made successful by means other than industry and finance.

I like lots and lots of small rivers and streams in my region, to break it up into smaller sections for variety. If I just have one big, vast, unmarked plain that takes up a large city tile, I tend to build in perfect grids, have monotanous neighborhoods, and generally end up with a city as boring as the terrain. But lots of rivers force me to decide exactly where to make the bridges and crossings, make me take more time to design the subdivisions to border the rivers and not waste lots of space, and looks really nice from region view, as well.

I prefer river deltas, they offer so much coast in intresting shapes, and would be very realistic because of the transportation benefits. You should add river deltas to the poll 4.gif

Flat landscape is the only place to build for me. But that doesn't rule out making some flat landscape as a terrace on a mountain, in fact I would prefer that, but building on anything other than flat land gives my buildings those awful foundations, some of which might be massively tall so I avoid building on anytyhing but flat landscape, even if I have to flatten some land to make a terrace to do so.

I use every place I can used to build a city, but in the end nearly all my cities end as little towns, except for the CBD and the industrial centers. That's why I have occupied a large piece of Maxisland.

Ive always enjoyed building in an island like terrain. I dunno, but it just seems more natural for me. Plus if i have a region with several Islands, i can completely forest islands that i dont want to work on yet, plus my city building skills seem to be better on islands. But no matter what, i have to have water in my regions. Like SockoJr53 said, it just seems more natural to build on water sides because thats what the majority of the major US cities are built .

I build anywhere as long it has 'somewhere' to build. I dont mind if it is hilly but i prefer 'by a water area'.

Basicly, I would build enywhere a building can pop up 9.gif

But I really prefer flat coastal areas, as they give the greatest amount of opportunities.

I usually build my cities on mostly flat land with some water here and there. But sometimes building in the mountains is also fun and challenging 2.gif

I build my cities neither in desserts nor tropical nor high-altitude areas

I like to build near coastal areas, and that is what I voted for. Although, I like to try and create a dynamic region with many types of terrain. Since the appearance of ploppable water, it has changed the game, so to speak, as far as water and land go. I've been experimenting with ploppable water and flora quite a bit. I have also taken a liking to building on slopes. This can be tricky without a slope mod, which I refuse to use. I just seem to get a sense of satisfaction from sculpting the terrain to my specifications on my own. The end result can be very nice. I love it when I succeed in making realistic neighborhoods on slopes. This may stem from the part of the world I live in. Western Pennsylvania is quite hilly.

I build my cities on the coast for the same reason, and civilization in my regions expands from east to west.

I do have another reason for preferring to build cities along the coast: land value.  I am already working on attracting a certain class of Sims to one coastal town.  It will be marketed as a quiet, "isolated" bedroom community for the "exclusive" crowd.

I'm boring, I like to build on Flat Areas.

I do, however make a Region here and there that has hills, and a large river flowing through, but I usually put so much restrictions on it, and go, "Oh, I don't want to mess it up!" and it takes all the fun out of it. When playing flat, I don't worry about that stuff.

I like one big Island 'cause I like ships and stuff like that. Also I feel like my city is isolated which I like. But the terrain is allways flat 'cause I can stand buildings that that are lifted, they look really awful, atleast to me.

Wow, that's awsome! I wish I could someday have such region, so far I got only one small village.

Are you using somekinda water mod? It looks nice and more realistic, where could I get it?

I like coastal areas, but more often a combo of areas like: coastal, river and hilly. I just love to make waterfronts.

I like regions with a good mix, but generally a river or harbour type of setting i prefer - things with a bit of variety.

On land, usually. It's tricky to build cities on water. :P

I generally like building near a river, although that's purely for aesthetic reasons. Flat land regardless of altitude is good too.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Usually on flat land(As it is easier to build), and near bodies of water and islands.
