Okay, so I am sure many people have dreamed of the new Simcity 5, I don't know if it is announced anyway I don't think so. That is why an official petetion has been launched. We need to reach 50,000 signatures, the petetions will reach the developers including Will Wright. So please if you want that game sign and let us reach the 50,000.

Many. And they all have been "Official Petitions". Sorry to burst a bubble; but there ain't going to be another Sim City game, at least from EA, especially after the failure of Societies. It isn't viable.

I'll dust off this (now) old chestnut and throw in my two pennies: I think that there will be a SimCity 5 in the foreseeable future b/c the franchise has generated too much revenue not to make another version of the game. Heck, I go into stores and still see SC4 on the shelves along w/ the new titles. The game has a legacy and a strong following. Someone will recognize that more money can be made off it and churn out a new version sooner or later. I only hope that it is a worthwhile addition to the franchise. We don't need another Societies (which I see in the $5.99 software bargain bin at my grocery store, right beside Suduko for the PC).

I kind of have to agree with jabezscratch. If there are 372,000 members of Simtropolis, and most of them are here for SimCity 4, and this isn't the world's most popular website, there have got to be tons of SimCity fans out there. Possibly enough for another game. I've been telling the NAM and all of the BAT teams that they really should talk to EA. Most of them will work on software design for nothing but a guaranteed copy of the completed game.

BTW, 372,000 is like 0.5% of the population of the United States. That's not bad for one game.

As much as I'd like right now to have a super 3D game, I don't want a SC5 I just want an expansion pack to SC4 that doesn't break everything the community has made.

Simcity 4 was ahead of it's time, and we've got a while to wait before computers catch up to a point when we can have stunning 3D graphics, with an awesome engine behind it as well as the ability to mod it extensively.

I have no doubt that there will be another interation of Simcity. However, if developers were really smart they'd simply go with the tried and true originals like Simcity 3000 and expand on that. Since they already have the code it would be a small feat to remake the game and take advantage of current graphics hardware. They could add unlimited map sizes, curved roads, and upgrade the graphics at the same time.

I remember playing the original Simcity and having hours and hours of fun...even though the graphics were terrible. Everyone I've talked to agrees that the new games have lost their fun factor in exchange for super 3D graphics.

I personally don't want to go back to the original Simcity graphics but I don't want or need super 3D either.

Some people seem to have problems with letting their mind wander.  Anyway, no, I doubt that this petition will work.  Why?  The pushy corporate businessmen at Electronic Arts don't like to be told what to do by a pack of puny consumers.  As soon as we all give up and go home, they'll come out with a SimCity 5.  That's why all of their games end up failing. 48.gif

And besides, it sounds like your having trouble getting 50,000 people to sign. 48.gif

Let's face it, there will be no SC5; the most approximate game nowadays is CXL and I think I've read enough about it. EA won't develop a new version of SimCity for many reasons, the ones that come faster to my mind are:

    - We, city building simulator fans; are a very narrow market niche. We aren't enough to pay for this game and give benefits back to the developers (EA in this case). Developing a SC5 with the features we would like (3D, no grid, lots of variety, realistic, customizable, etc.) would be so money-consuming and so time-consuming that it isn't worth to try. You can be sure that they have calculated this.

    - EA is a private enterprise and, like all of them, their aim is earning money. SC: Societies was born with this aim, looking for the casual player instead of the hardcore gamer like us. Nowadays, all developers are looking for the casual players, they are the ones who spend real money and the ones who spread the word.

    - Most of today's computers are not prepared for this kind of cool 3D graphics. I know this couldn't work as an example, but my two computers aren't able to host CXL. If you wanted to develop a game which everybody could install, you would have to wait several years in order to replace all low specs computers with ones capable of hosting your game. And this is not the moment.

    - I stand in the opinion of the ones who would like a new expansion pack for SC4 instead of a brand new game; but implementing all mods (NAM, RHW, SAM, PEG's, etc.) would suppose money for its creators and this could be soooo expensive that makes all this impossible. In the other hand, if Maxis developed its own mods, be sure that they would be worst than the custom ones.

Just my two cents, sorry if my grammar is too primitive, but it's my way of writing in English...
