I saw those blocks get released, and I didn't think it would take long for them to pop up in CJ's like this 9.gif  They look great! I don't understand that funny backwards writing though XD

I look forward to more!

During the rise of the USSR, Krasnoslobodsk experimented a sudden population growth. People's inmigration from the most isolated parts of the union to the cities was a constant during the 20th century. Because of this, the goverment had to plan and build new suburbs as fast and inexpensively as possible. We saw the first and oldest "extension" in the previous update, but there's more.

    17673827.jpg

The first phase of the extension was proven very "inefficient". Krasnoslobodsk city planner thought that residents would enjoy some space to meet and take a walk. This required to provide some maintenance to the gardens and paths inside, but it never was provided. Furthermore, the more the people met; the more dissidents there were. It was better for the state to keep them isolated at home listening to the state radio.

    27303164.jpg

The Goverment felt specially proud of the public transport system, heavily based in the rail transport. Trains were OK when they were purchased, during the 50s; but now they're old, rusty, unefficient, noisy and impossible to be ridden by the handicapped. The stations fall to pieces this day and the rail maintenance is nearly nonexistant.

    23437954.jpg

The extension continued for one decade more, and plans "improved". Space wasn't wasted anymore with "inproductive" open areas and blocks were placed in the most compact way. Years later, Krasnoslobodsk opened its first metro line and, due to lack of funding; it had to be laid in trench. Because of this, the neighbourhood was torn in two by the Metro tracks.

I love how drab and montononous (or rather monochromatic) everything looks, very realistic. The only thing I'm missing is the vile rivers of sewage slushing through town, haha.

I love that visible underground rail! It looks great with those apartments. The apartments in the first picture are cool too.

    Good update. Merry Christmas!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't want to bump this thread to say thanks for the Trixie, so here it goes now:

    trixie2010.jpg

Well, I guess that copy and pasting my "speech" on the CJ Section wouldn't be very nice; just to say thank you very much to everybody who has ever visited this CJ and who has left a reply here. And of course, thank you to who has nominated me not only to the "Best Grimy City" category, but to all the others: "Best CJ", "Best Story", "Awe Inspiring", "Most Realistic", "Best Use of Custom Content", "Best Suburbs", "Most Improved CJer" and "Most Eye-Catching Title". Wow!

And now, let's go with the update!

    nuevobannerok.jpg

Today we're following one of the inhabitants of Krasnoslobodsk, who has the "privilege" of watching the different landscapes of the city 9 hours a day. He is Mikhail.

    12233716.jpg

He lives, as many other people, in Workers City. Not a very good place to live for a public worker; but it could be definately worse... Fortunately, the bus stop isn't far from the blocks and today's not very cold.

    estadion.jpg

The bus takes Mikhail and two dozens of workers to the city center ("downtown" is a "too American word"). They pass besides many interesting places, one of them is Lokomotiv Stadion, home field of FC Lokomotiv Krasnoslobodsk. This club was founded by rail workers like Mikhail in year 1931 and they moved to this new stadium in 2004. No need to say Mikhail is a supporter of this club.

    41389386.jpg

    79280661.jpg

    88332228.jpg

Half an hour later, the bus drops off a bunch of commuters in front of the Krasnoslobodsk rail terminal. Some decades before, you could reach nearly most of the USSR from here; nowadays this is just a commuter rail terminal. The offices upstairs have been abandoned for a long time and some homeless have found a shelter there. Mikhail enters the station and goes to the locker room to change his clothes.

    56845554.jpg

Some minutes later, his workday begins.

    85610314.jpg

Eventually, the train goes through Workers City. Mikhail can see his home from here and wonders what is his family doing right now. This is only the first of the 16 times he'll see this blocks today.

Great update. It's probably annoying for Mikhail to drive near his house everyday thinking "I could be there now".

Congrats on winning a TRIXIE and getting nominated in other categories.

!!! I think that picture (mosaic?) of the rail station and bus stands is one of the finest in your entire CJ. The rail building is stark, dirty, brutal. Just amazing. The rail junction is also excellent - looks like something Nardo69 made!

    Congratulations on your well-deserved Trixie.

Brilliant update!  I love the way you used the banality of Mikhail's journey to work to chronicle the update.   That picture of the suspension bridge over the rail lines is my favourite.   I like the train station too.  It's one of my favourte train stations in the game.  You've used it well!

    Congratulations on the Trixie! 9.gif

In this CJ, there's always a power plant near, it is like a classic here. I feel confortable showing them and I like how they look. The one we see today, is one of the ones that feed Krasnoslobodsk, there are some more in and around the metropolitan area, but this one is very close to Workers City.

    34515054.jpg

Here's where it all begins. The rusty cranes work non-stop unloading the coal coming from different parts of the nation. If one of this trains couldn't reach its destination, nothing happens, as the power plant has coal reserves that could last up to three days. Of course, that's the "official" version.

    54475260.jpg

Here, this coal is burned and the heat this process gives, heats water that becomes steam. It passes through a turbine and its movement generates the electricity that Krasnoslobodsk citizens enjoy 16 hours a day. The effects of burning the coal can be smelt in the air and felt in the building roofs in a 10-kilometers radius.

    70154309.jpg

Instantly, this high-voltage electricity is delivered to other parts of the metropolitan area, or transformed into medium and low voltage electricity to be used in the surrounding neighbourhoods. This is how Krasnoslobodsk keeps its slow way to the progress.

Now the exam season is coming, I won't be able to update for a couple of weeks, so I thought I should bring something a little bit special.

I love building airports for my cities, and I thought I should make one for Krasnoslobodsk. It was quite a challenge, because it should be different to what I'm used to do. Lately, I had been building some fancy (or wannabe fancy) airports, with RHWs here and there, and more or less varied terminal designs. But Krasnoslobodsk's had to be the opposite: boxy, grey, ugly... Here's the result. No tenements today.

Krasnoslobodsk International Airport (KNB), formerly called Yuri Andropov International Airport, was a magnificient facility when the first flight landed on the runway, in 1957,  it was the proud of Krasnoslobodsk and the gate to the city. Since then, only a few upgrades have been made in the terminal building, and the only the basic upkeep is made for safety reasons. Its 1992-meter asphalt runway doesn't allow the landing of the largest aircrafts, but there's no need for larger aircrafts here.

Only a handful of national and regional airlines operate here: Aeroflot, Aerosvit, Armavia, Dniproavia, Easyjet and Transaero; with daily flights to Moscow and Kiev. Three cargo flights are operated weekly by UPS, DHL and TNT.

Krasnoslobodsk airpor looks... quite nice 9.gif

The runway looks nice and clear and clean, the planes look like they'll hold together in the air and the terminals, though plain, look reasonably well maintained!

I guess there aren't any airport packs that fit Tenements & Rust perfectly, but you've done a great job with what's available! The image editing loos great as always.

Nice airport...very plain. I need to build an airport in my city soon. Last time I essentially just copied Cincinnati-Kentucky International for my Sessquenna Region...this time it will be more about trying to find the right place. Enough about me, haha, great airport mosaic. I'd like to see a complete view of the entire airport sometime. Keep up the stellar work.
