You have more roads than freeways, so I would make the freeways work with the roads rather than the opposite. Tyranny of the majority!

Seems more demand to keep the freeways is in order and so it shall be! I'll redo the area and work on the freeways and interchanges in that area and then fill in the streets and avenues acordingly. The 5, 10 & 101 will bevery, very hard I'm already starting work on these monsters of interchanges and should have a gaggle of pictures for everyone soon, so keep on the look out!

Thank you to everyone who is looking at this progess and even more to the people replying and helping me out. Replies will come with the next big update.

    Los Angeles Times (Replies Edition)

TekindusT: That may be the best idea and what I may go with, thanks for the suggestion!

GMT: Thank you and I do indeed plan to continue though it's some hard work, having people say such good things about it keeps me going.

Mr. Beer: Thanks for coming back for more! And yes with the NAM almost all of this would have been impossible and the idea of an LA remake would have been laughable at best.

Schulmanator: Though that is true most of the roads are very minor and a lot of people will agree that the most one of the most famous things besides the downtown itself is the awful yet strangly beauitufl freeways so my main goal is the focus on them and the most importaint streets. Thanks for your feeback though and coming back!

Redrummage: Thank you, hope you return for more!

Oktoberfest: Sorry the lot editor is out of my range because of time and basicly effort. Thanks for the idea though.

Kj3400: Agreed with that all the way and what I plan to do, thanks for the comment!

Bendedict: Yes, yes and more yes. Well said and agreed. Thank you.

Muck308: I tried that but for some reason it doesn't seem to work properly.

    Construction and Growth

Got some progress to report for everyone, worked a little more around Union Station and Prospect Park. The 5 and 10 freeway junction is still stumping me some and even worse is the 101, 5, 10 and 60 freeway monster of an interchange I've never seen anything like it and am dumb founded how to even start this "thing" with Simcity4! But for now, my progress.
    4.jpg
You can see more progress to the right and towards the top of the picture (the areas mentioned).
    3.jpg
7.jpgI made a small compromise on the 10 and curved it in more and sooner, for those wondering what exactly has changed. Compare to the first pictures.
    6.jpg
Work around Union Station area, street names are in the picture for those curious. Notice all the odd angeles and zig-zags. Though against my better judgement I decide to do this as explained to me by Lucky7 it looks better in transportation view (thank goodness it looks good somewhere). So I may have to this for many streets. Please note again Main St is a very wide multilane oneway road but just using an avenue made it easier. Thats my progress so far.

    Real Life Problems

Also to the help of Lucky7 (thank you so much) I got real life comparsions!! Yay!! Dare to compare and see I'm doing the best I can. It's main focus is the 101 & 10 and then the 10 & 5 junctions. The curvy freeway is going to be hard...

Thanks for stopping by look for the next update!! Please tell me what you think it gives me valued feedback! After all can't know if it's good or not if no one tells me.

    Hi there,

great progress, you are doing such a fine job on this. Moreover, as already and appreciated by a lot of posts, I have to agree that LA highway-wise spoken, has been a very challenging choice. I am really glad I could help. Even if it looks odd in the city-view, it looks so much better and rigt in the region-view, to keep a re-creation as authentic as possible. There is no other opportunity to do it, even when using the FAR, because you have to switch angles somewhen...

No need to say 'thank you', if I didn't want to tell and help you I wouldn't have done it (is this an English sentence? I think so, hopefully lol).

Well, to give you another tip to really bOOst your CJ: always have some comparison pics in peto (btw, I just realized that I keep missing these; time for a change..) - that's very important. Also, if something does not work out as you want it: mention it, but focus on the fine things that would really work out for you, recreation-wise.

All the best for your ambitious project, and I do hope you could make everyone aware about the effort it takes do the a re-creation of a BIG city,

I agree with lucky7: Comparison pictures are very important, not everyone of us knows how LA looks like.

I also can't wait until you fill it in with buildings and parks, as it looks pretty odd right now. I also wonder how much attention you pay to scale, ergo, is 16m in your city also 16m in LA, saving bends in the highway?

    Regards,

    Korot

pretty good, if i were you, i would start with coastal cities and work my way inward. it seems like the coastal cities of La don't have crazy interchanges, and if you use these as a guide then you might be able to link other streets off of it

Hello everyone it's been a few days and I've been busy with working on this project as well as school, yeah it's that time again so school will be slowing down my progess some but by no means stopping it! As promised if this hit the 1,000 mark by the time of this update I would do something special so, I decide to show the "real" downtown part and by that I mean where all the famous buildings are. Now it's not zoned like the other area I'm working on (going to be a real nice update on that one) but I did get the streets and building placement down and wanted to share, so with out further delay here is a few buildings in Downtown Los Angeles and night shots!

    2-1.jpg

Walt Disney Music hall (credit to: dmscopio). It sits sungly between Hope St (farthest back), Grand Ave (closest to you) , 1st Street (to your right) and 2nd Street (to your left)

    5-1.jpg

Think we stuck around just a little too long huh? it's already night but look how that building glows at night! Gen Thad Kosciuszko Way (seriously), is the street to your right going in between the parking lot under Grand Ave.

    3-1.jpg

A few blocks down we come to the Wells Fargo & KPMG towers (credit: kodebo) and don't they look stunning at night? Resting between 3rd Street, Grand Ave (top), Hope St and 4th St (right sunken).

    6-1.jpg

This is just a better shot of the KPMG tower.

    1-1.jpg

What's a trip without a vist to Los Angeles most iconic building, the tallest building this side of Chicago (Sears Tower) The US Bank Building (Liberty Tower) (credit: Rickk) and right next door to it is Citgroup HQ (credit: kodebo).

    9.jpg

I know it's not much right now but it's something.

    7-1.jpg

Just thought I would show the 101 & 110 interchange placement.

    8.jpg

Off and on ramps meeting Temple St (right) and Hope St (leading to on and off ramps) then the on and off ramps leading to Grand Ave (left). I had to shrink the lanes on the RHW for proper placement of the Stack Interchange.

    4-1.jpg

A little problem here fellows,  Flower Street (top to botem) and 5th Street (left to right) are one way multi laned streets and I decided to use the 5 laned RHW for each but having a problem with the interchange. I've tried putting an avenue  but that lead to some horrible problems so any other suggestions fellows? Is an interchange like this even possible or do I need a newer verson of RHW?

Well that's what I got so far guys I'll show the area around the dry river next time, also to my surprise the LA City Hall has not been made yet (that's a shame). Also just wondering if anyone (single or group of people) feels up to the task of helping this project greatly with some buildings? I can't BAT worth anything and with school now I just wouldn't have the time to even if I knew how. PM if you're interested.

Thanks for stopping by everyone hope you like it so far!

I have no idea about that intersection there. I know they made intersection for the smaller RHW's but I don't think there are any for that number of lanes.

Anyway, I'm actually excited to see this city done and detailed! This project is reminding me when someone built Phoenix, Arizona here!

    Very good!

That problem is a nasty one. Unfortunately, the NAM team doesn't have anything to solve it now, but a proposed project called Wider One Way Road (WOWR) or something like that may solve your problems. That project may not be able to see the day of light though. 15.gif
