I found a program that decrypt all the .pak of Cities XL.
Before starting to post all the "secret things" that I found in those paks, I want to know if MC agree.
So please, can anyone from MC tell me if modding CXL values is possible.

If yes I'll post here everything you need to customize the game.
If not I'll close the thread.

Before starting to make custom buildings we need something between the .3ds model and the .sgbin file.
.pak files contains lots of .class and .sgbin files. I guess that .class are something like a .dat in SC4 and .sgbin something like the .sc4lot in SC4.

I would say modding single player is fine however modding planet offer would not be fine (assuming both have different sets of files).

Wrong, mods actually work for both solo and planet offer, that's also probably why they keep silent for now, having to deal with that issue... however it's starting to take long, since there are many ways to make everyone happy without allowing "mod-cheat" online. PO is as much modable as solo game for now... any mod you use in solo will work the same online... (and may be considered as cheating by mc and lend you to a warning / ban) so be aware of that, and "delete" (i.e. move in another folder where they are not loaded) your mods when playing online to avoid risking ban.

Ah.. The Modding Begins for CXL!

Umm..

When you installed CXL or Registered on the Internet, i think there ws a, "No Modding" section that breaks the agreement, or omething like that (or at leas that was in the beta) and bans you from the PO, and the game. Im not really sure though..

The Beta Should have let people Modd!!! that would make everyone Prepared and Ready when the Game comes out, I Mean, In the beta, they couldn't find a way to Make ramps Stay on one Side of the Highway, but maybe modders would have been able to help..well, maybe later

*i talk too much*

It just acts like a .ZIP archive. So all you need to do is open the file with winzip or some like. I think the game half life, had those files too.

This thread is quite old; I'll use it to announce some of my new mods.

At the moment the depacker is called "QuickBMS", search it on Google...

Since at the moment mods must be packed, and few users have a reapcker, this thread isn't useful.

MC tried to stop modding, so as I said in the first post, the discussion is closed.

GlobexCo, MC didn't try to stop modding completely. They only stopped it for the Planet Offer. You can mod the game all you want, just as long as it is not a cheat for the PO.2.gif

It's very difficult for me doing tests with mods without a repacker.

They promised a mod folder only for SP in November... have you seen something?

I believe that those wanting to create buildings for CitiesXL should start with City Life. They use the same exact scale and sizes, both use SpeedTree and CitiesXL reuses at least some City Life code.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Just to give an update, the mod developers at CitiesXS have ran out of motivation due to the lack of talk there and the silence of the community. I doubt any modding will happen now until CXL2011, that's why I'm kind of getting back onto SC4, to test out, play around with mods and get my own 3DS Max model buildings into the game. However, I'm still playing CXL, just not much at all, and I still think it's that slightly better (really hate the grid and graphics in SC4). Not to get too off topic here.

That's depressing, I was hoping the Mod community will add more mods to enhance the game while waiting for CXL 2011.

but it seems most people now are losing interest. what a waste 15.gif

This thread is kinda dead, same thing for true modding.

Expert modders are now at CitiesXS, and since CXL "wall" against modding is still active, it's impossible for users like me to create something new for the game.

MC stopped talking about news about CXL2011 and there's nothing sure about its release... this is an old thread, bumping it again and again isn't very useful; probably we'll come back again to modding as soon as MC release something. But by then, please don't use again this thread - it contains false information and is old... thanks.

And I've got to say that I didn't loose interest in CXL modding, but simply normal people don't have enough tools to really express their mind and create a custom CXL... but this is an old story.
