Hello everyone!!

I've discovered that the .exe file of Cities XL, like it was in the beta, search for things in the Data folder.

After unpacking (don't ask me how, it's a secret!) many files of the old data folder and saving them in .xml files; I modified some settings in those files.

So I MODDED LOANS!!!!!

With this modifies you can have 3 loans of 1000000000 $, and the bank will pay you 1000000000 $ for 1000000000 turns! Now you can build your dream city without any problems of money.

read the readme, it's in the folder!

I put it on the STEX.

(I'll upload the link when ready)

At the moment only mods like this are possible!

In the version 1.0 I'll try to create infinite loans!

Why I started this topic? Because I want to know if the STEX is the right place to upload mod for CXL.

Please answer...

Thanks a lot to everyone!

Thanks to Xentax, their members uploaded again the unpacked old paks.

You Rock!!!!

Is there anyway you could also include a mod for omnicorp (in single player) that makes it fairer trading or does this also effect planet offer?

Can't wait.

My 10YR old really enjoys city builders; however, he hasn't been able to get a handle on CXL yet. Now he'll be able to build  w/o DAD coming to the rescue every 15MIN!!!!

You let the cat out of the bag not me - now it's fair game.   You can also get the ambiance folder and put it in your data/ sounds folder to get the ambiant sounds in the game, traffic - birds - people......   Makes a huge difference in game play that's for sure.  You don't have to change any code you just move the folder.

You can indeed upload your mods to the STEX. Dirk will be putting together a new section for CXL mods. Just be sure that the mods you upload don't interfere with any of the terms or are illegal some how. If in doubt, go ahead and ask here and we, the staff, will do our best to answer, or have our friends at Monte Cristo answer for us. 4.gif

Thanks for taking the time to discover this!

So can we post the Ambiance folder for people to download here so they too can have ambient sound or does that violate the agreement?   The folder is already there in your files we are not changing any of the code?

The sound folder is already in the Data folder.

    Don't you have it?

So, if I have it, everyone who bought CXL should have it. If not, this is a MC problem, not mine.

Uploading a part of the game is against the law and against Simtropolis rules

"It is strictly and expressly prohibited to post or upload: a. Anything relating to the pirating, or copying, of any software game title"

    @swat-medic

oops...didn't remember to post the message...

Well, the sandbox mode shouldn't be illegal and shouldn't be against the rule n5.

The main exe file, after loading everything, searches if there's some patch in the design folder. My mod is a patch for a pak that there's already in the game directory. The xml file is a result of an unpackage made with a program called MexCommander (freeware). So everyone can do it. This freeware can unpack the old beta paks and the creators of this program, while discussing about adding the new extension .pak to this unpacker, uploaded all the unpacked files. I modified one of these files (created by MC and exported with a freeware) to create my mod.

So this is very similar to use the Reader (freeware) to unpack dat (made by Maxis) and mod them.

I added to the first message the name of the forum where this program is developped (Xentax).

no more secrets. Hope that MC answer us soon...

Yes, there's something moddable, but with this mod the game crashes.

This is an awesome mod and works really well!

I visited another forum and got the trade mod and it was in a patch file.

I'm wondering what the difference is.

That wont be needed, since everyone who downloaded Cities XL should already have theese sounds. They are just in the wrong place. As stated all you have to do is " get the ambiance folder and put it in your data/ sounds folder" That requires no modding at all, just moving a folder from one place to another.

I think I'm either totally missing a trick here too, or we have different versions of the base install.  I can find no ambience folder anywhere.

I'm playing with the steam download version.

Sounds are in a pak file (named all_wav.pak); but this is not a thing for modders, this is a thing that should come with a MC patch.

Exactly why would they leave out ambient sounds from release???   Anyway search the web if you don't know how to open the .pak files, some smart folks have figured that out already.   One you have done that you will then see the ambient folder in your sounds folder - as stated all you have to do is move it.   For anyone doing that MC already said they won't support you - best if your going to do this to make a backup of your sound folder to revert to prior to any patches.

    @ice444:

at the moment, the .patch files are pak files simply... and the difference is their loading order, or their priority if you prefer...

    Paks\* loads before Data\*

Paks\X.pak will load before Paks\X_Y.patch, so lastest patch just "overrides" older files when loading...

Pak and patch files contains what the Data\ directory contains... So, imagine pak and patch are zip files containing the Data contents...

the game firsts unzips the pak files in memory then the patchs files, then finally, it will override this memory with what Data\ folder contains.

The forum you want to visit is over @ citiesxs.de/forum, go to modden and select the trade topic.

I'm working on a mod that removes the need for any resources ie: fuel, electricity etc.

So far I have 20,000 people with only the original resource centre.

Once it reaches 100,000 i will post it online!

Well, it's possible. Each map has alpha maps (b/w) and the main file uses one of these maps to turn on the farm zone.

So the problem is: what map should I use to make the mod? (so, please answer)

Well, there's the program. But you must be careful on what you do. Many things can be made with that unpacked files, but there's an "unwritten law" that you must respect before uploading CXL mods on the STEX. We aren't talking about SC4, where you can do what you want and EA won't do anything after they abandoned us. We are talking about a game released only 1 month ago, a game that every week is updated by the creator.

Modding some parts of the game can be very dangerous for your game and for future updates. What can we do if MC decides to stop us adding some new lines to the exe?

My two little mods changes only little values. Other mods like these have been already made and released to public. So, mod what you want... but be careful on what you'll upload in future...

    Hope you understand.
