If you come across any good mars textures, whether ground or building, post them here. some ideas include ceramics, white to grey, dirt of quite a few colors, reflection maps, etc. also, share your ideas on how to make the buildings look mars bound, what color for transparency and so on. also, what colors should plants be under the new sky? will plants stay green, or will we engineer them to adapt? they cant live outside, but what will they look like as they grow? share your ideas here.

it is possible to change the gray background... i forget the exact process but i know you somehow replace the grid background images in your simcity folder.

Plants are green because of the chlorophyll and that happens because of sunlight among other things...so unless you gave the plants artificial sunlight they wouldnt be green at all....in which case theyd be dead. So I guess either green for plants or no plants at all.

Just replace the 5 images in the simcity4/plugins folder where simcity is installed and you have a new gridbackground.

I think we need a good texture set for the buildings.. like metals and glass and such, just so the people working on the buildings dont go making wood buildings on mars and stuff. There needs to be a nice guildline to work with so when your actually building a city it doesnt look like a jumble of different styles of futuristic weird architecture. Too many cooks in the kitchen aint always a good thing.

and earthly architecture isnt a jumble, right? I'm simply assuming that the batter has the brains to not use wood, diversity will work for us, dont critisize it until you've actually seen it, because I havent even seen this wood problem you speak of.

We should also do a building set of 40's-50's space buildings. You know corny onion domes and space neeldes. After all, that's what they thought things would look like.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/9.gif><ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/21.gif>

I don't think we can use that. most tex's on sim city are custom made, I think. I'm most likely wrong though.

I would like to see a few of those buildings built, some of the crazier stuff, I might make a few myself just for giggles.

The chlorophyll thing - chlorophyll is only one of the pigments that plants have. There are also carotenoids and xanthophylls (the yellows and oranges you get in autumn). They are different colors to maximize their effect on electrons through the changing light conditions.

So, plants on Mars might need to be a totally different color to suit the atmosphere of the Red Planet. Not to give you guys extra work - I don't hink anybody's actually done a study.

not to throw science out the window or anything, but green contrasts with red-orange nicely. So my vote goes for green.

There are many places here on Earth that resemble Mars, especially in the desert Southwest.

A good pic of the Grand Canyon could look pretty damn good as a reflection in a window.

Or a good shot of some large Sahara sand, tinted a faint red in photoshop, would do the same as well.

We have talent here. We don't need pictures taken soley from satellites orbiting Mars. Photoshoppers start looking for pictures of arid places on Eart such as those mentioned above or others, like Austrailia, the Middle East, the Atacama Desert, just to name some more. These pictures can easily be edited in photoshop to have a Mars appearance.

    Think outside the box.

This is my solar panel texture that I used on my mars solar plant in the BEX. This will be useful for living quarters, agricultural buildings and other things that require energy.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/1.gif>

in case we cant soon get a set of mars terrain graphics, my brother has offered to do them, he's a good graphics artist, but he isnt much interested in this sadly 7.gif
I would really like to see what people can come up with in the way of textures, and TGC is right, there are a lot of places on earth that resemble mars, just requires a bit of color tweaking.

If you can find the right blue, and invert it, it would probably look pretty good for a sky texture on a tall, glass martian skyscraper.

    /idealbb/files/sky4.JPG

That isn't the best example, but it is pretty cloes. If you have a picture of a green sky, that would work. (inverted)

My own heads-up:  I intend to work on the ground textures fairly soon, since that's one of the easiest yet most visible things to be done.  My schedule's a little tight right now, so it's going to take a little while to get going.
