MySim can't get to work

Sometimes when I insert a MySim into a city, he/she sometimes conplains about the commute around their house. On mose occasions, a bus stop is place next to or near their house, and they don't stop complaining about the commute.

Why does this happen?

That means that either you have poor transport between where he is and where he needs to go.. which can be that 1. transport is not adequate.. or 2. that your mix of R$ R$$ R$$$ is wrong for the jobs that are available.. for example if you have too many R$$$ there are not a lot of jobs they can work in.. so even with good transport he may not be able to reach a place which needs an R$$$ worker

The area is supposed to be rural town with R$ and CS$. Looking throught the Onmibus, The author says their is an error with MySim and a bus stop placed near the house. So i seems the problem is universal

    To respond to SC4BOY -

I thought that R$/R$$/R$$$ only refers to density of that area not the wealth of Sim that moves in.  So if you have zoned too many R$$$ and you don't have the jobs, won't it be filled with lower R$ or R$$??  It seem like it just cost you more money to have those areas over zoned?

No. R$/R$$/R$$$ refers to the wealth level of the area zoned, not the density of it.

I never really use MySims - the stuff they tell you can be figured out by other means.

You can have any wealth level ($=low $$=middle $$$=high) sims live in any "zone density" The same is true for C$ (S) and C$$ (O or S) and C$$$ (O or S) wealth levels and I D, M and H can develop in any zone.. The one exception is FARMS.. they an only grow farms, but the farms can be any "Stage" (1-3 for standard SC RH/Delux) Note: O=office, S=service, D=dirty, M=manufacturing, H=high tech...RCI of course are residence, commerce, industry.

About the only REAL way to control the game wealth ratios for residents is via taxes.. Don't go slamming them around, but gently raise or lower and wait a couple of months and watch the demand (vertical bars) to get slight negative demand for those things you DON"T want growing and positive (more generally better , but balance for income) for those things you want to grow. The whole issue of getting what you want to grow where is a subject unto itself.

Generally you want about 15% R$$, 8%R$$$ and 70+ % R$ as this is about the demand level jobs in SC4 will generate.

Thanks for mentioning about farms cause that is another problem i have.

What do you mean by stages, because when they build they either become grain planting or fruit picking, and i am unsure by the term stages.

Also, looking through the Omnibus, i cam across a tutorial featuring rural pastures, and his farms where different, by what was growing on them

    See pics on Onmibus https://www.simtropolis.com/omnibus/index.cfm/Main.SimCity_4.Realistic_Rural_Rail

Well stages don't really matter at this point.. suffice it to say that there are "levels" of farms that will grow depending on you regional population.. so until you have adequate population, they wont' grow..and when you do they grow on their own (unless you have driven demand to zero) ..

The way folk get those special "CJ" type views is usually by cheating.. ie they plop them using ploppable lots instead of growing them (they also don't work on "the game" ..they are just for "looking at".. or "eyecandy" ... HOWEVER what I do to get a more pleasing mix of farms is just to "smack em" with the bulldozer until I get one I like .. 4.gif

I have this same MySim problem. Often their job (according to the MySim bar at the bottom of the screen) will be within walking distance from their house, and they still complain about losing their job because of the commute. I've always just chalked it up to some kind of glitch and deleted the MySim. Is there some other explanation?

before i installed the NAM with simulator Z, i could not play this game very far until my entire city went to the dumps because of commute issues.

the problem with SC4/SC4RH vanilla is that sims are clearly not patient enough when it comes to commuting. in the real world, we don't see people leaving cities in droves because of a half-hour commute. NAM (and CAM) solve these issues almost entirely, and the best part is you can choose the level of capacity for transit based on the simulator.

if you have NAM/CAM installed and this is still happening, well, i don't know what to tell you. they might be complaining about congestion and not commute times itself, in which case it may be time to start thinking about mass transit or upgrading road networks. but if they're walking to work, i would just ignore them. unless the building itself starts to dilapidate.

Thats the most interesting thing about the MySims complaining, my commercial and industrial zones don't dilapidate. It seems to be a problem with the MySims only. Oh well, I've been meaning to install NAM and CAM anyway

definitely install NAM! I found CAM to make the game too easy and doesn't offer any customization. NAM brings a whole new dynamic to the game. you should also get road-top mass transit if you don't have it. I think it requires NAM anyway 3.gif

It means the MySim wants to change jobs, but can't get to his new job.. as you no doubt have noted they change jobs all the time as they get smarter or richer or whatever..  please read my original post wrt mixes of R$, R$$, and R$$ vs the types of jobs available as well
