 hi everyone.

i've been playing SC4 for years casually. one thing that has always bugged me is this bizarre, almost creepy groaning sound coming from my city, usually when zoomed in close. i don't know what it is, it sounds like zombies or some horrible moaning sound. does anyone know if i can get rid of it, or where it's coming from? it's much louder than everything else and is incredibly distracting.

Is it like a moaning or is it that dreaded crunching you are talking about? Cause if it's like a "wooooaaahhhh" moaning, I hear it too. But if it's the crunching, then it's your city's transit problems.

Well that could be a number of things. If it is real moaning it might be the zombies found in the cemeteries around Halloween.

But its most likely "Simlish", the language spoken by the Sims. You can read more about it online or at thesims.com. There are even some mp3 songs available for download, sung in simlish, which tends to sound a bit like muffled garbled words. Depending on the zoom on your city, you may be hearing what some sims on the sidewalk are saying.

Or it could be something else.

    sound.

and if it's from the zombies around halloween, i almost always have the game on full speed, so i assume it comes around often. and i've got to say, it's WAY too loud and i can hear it almost all the time. i just wish i could turn it off. would deleting the graveyard have any negative effects?

For what ever ridiculous reason, if you place a cemetary in a residental area, then it's desirability goes up. Tearing the cemetary down just lowers desirability for R$$ and R$$$ in the immediate area.

I'd swear I've seen a mod that takes the zombies out. And no, I'm not referring to the UDI tank from the army base.

    Found it: Ghostbusters

You'll have to be registered on SC4Devotion's LEX to get it (separate registration for the forums vs. exchange).

In some European countries, cemetaries are seen more as quiet parks than to a place where the dead lay. In France or England people goes for a walk on them, living besides them. Otherwise, in Spain cemetaries are put in the edge of the towns, regarding them as a "bad place".

I think Maxis people programmed cementaries to work as a park, like the example above.

Both cemeteries and churches are YIMBY's and should be placed.. they are your cheapest "pluses".. (they are free to plop and to keep)

I think the "whoosh" and the ghastly groaning are zombies.  But another poster brought up that high-pitched shreiking "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" sound also.  Its definately human, but what is it.  Does it mean anything?  Like a sim that is getting assaulted or robbed?

Thanks for the Ghostbusters mod, hopefully it gets rid of the noise, too. I just find it bizarre I can hear it all the way across the map and it's so loud.

And @jmusacha, I only hear the shreik when there's a fire. That reminds me...is there also a mod to reduce the number of fires? OK, I may have measly fire coverage, but I have to respond to one every 30 seconds. It gets old.

I also hear that high-pitch shrieking (similar to a fire) if I have a toxic waste dump in the city. The sims tend to shriek in the same horror when one of the trucks goes by (lots of fun in UDI, incidentally).

I sometimes hear a particular multi-syllable scream. No, not simlish, but an actual frustration-sounding scream. I'm pretty sure it's related to traffic. At least I usually notice it where I have traffic jams. Road rage, I suppose?

I never noticed any sounds from crimes, except the occasional riot.

wrt the sounds.. I play with most sounds totally off.. I'm always doing other things, so I don't notice.. I only have the "sound effects" or whatever they are called on aat fairly low level so I know if something odd happens..

Found this thread when searching. I don't think it's the graveyard. This is like a deep breathing or snoring sound. Only happens when you zoom in and isn't consistent. I can be laying a highway in a commercial zone and hear this. It's also very loud.

Wondering if it came with a mod/pluggin since a lot of people don't seem to hear it. If you heard it, you'd know exactly what it is.

If the game date is 10/31, I think this is louder.
