I mentioned this in a deleted topic and I don't think it's something anyone has really touched on, but the avatar customization thing is really limiting and frustrating. I couldn't make my character look like anything but a bizarre, disfigured middle aged man. And the people walking around in the cities were equally ugly, and their animation was poorly done. It makes me not want to zoom in and see what they're doing.

Would you be willing to give a Monte Cristo another shot?
rtil replied to LivingInThePast's topic in Cities XXL
I think the smart thing to do is for MC to improve Cities XL instead of starting from the ground up all over again. So...no. Edited uncecessary comment -
I hate to bring up another complaint about this game.. I actually didn't think the demo was all that bad although it didn't convince me to pre-order. However I have to say, creating a custom avatar was a really frustrating experience. I couldn't make a custom character without him looking like a middle-aged creepster. I ended up just trying to make him look as hilarious as possible because of the terrible modeling tools, and I guess the demo doesn't allow you to make a female avatar. The in-game models + animations for the people were equally terrible. Does anyone know if they are going to improve on this, or does anyone from MC want to say anything about it? The avatar offer is a considerable part of the "online experience", considering the lack thereof, I think they should offer a little more wiggle room in terms of what you want it to look like. Are those avatars simply butt-ugly, or am I just imagining things?

Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait

I'm putting my hopes on the expansions/patches/custom content to come. There's an impressive engine underneath it all, I don't think they utilized it very well though. -
Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait

1) I never experienced that. 2) why are you expecting customer support in a demo? 3) agreed 4) no mass-transit for offline players 5) hopefully fixed in retail 6) online players will get new content as time goes on, as far as offline mode you're just not seeing most of what the game has to offer in the first place, since it cuts you off @ 22k pop. -
i knew about the custom res, but not the cpucount one. i have a quad core, so this is interesting to me

The CitiesXL Plan - why not to dis Monte Cristo
rtil replied to landstander248's topic in Cities XXL
Complaints aside, I do hope they find the time and money to refine the game as time goes on. They did bite off more than they could chew, but there's something great there. Something to work off of. Not the best comparison, but Relic made Company of Heroes twice the game it was with one expansion. It's a completely different (and better) game than it was when it came out. Granted, the original was no dud, but my point is is that it could happen. -

Thanks for the Ghostbusters mod, hopefully it gets rid of the noise, too. I just find it bizarre I can hear it all the way across the map and it's so loud. And @jmusacha, I only hear the shreik when there's a fire. That reminds me...is there also a mod to reduce the number of fires? OK, I may have measly fire coverage, but I have to respond to one every 30 seconds. It gets old.

it's not wooshing or crunching, it's definitely Originally posted by: Philadelphia a "wooooaaahhhh" moaningquote> sound. and if it's from the zombies around halloween, i almost always have the game on full speed, so i assume it comes around often. and i've got to say, it's WAY too loud and i can hear it almost all the time. i just wish i could turn it off. would deleting the graveyard have any negative effects?

hi everyone. i've been playing SC4 for years casually. one thing that has always bugged me is this bizarre, almost creepy groaning sound coming from my city, usually when zoomed in close. i don't know what it is, it sounds like zombies or some horrible moaning sound. does anyone know if i can get rid of it, or where it's coming from? it's much louder than everything else and is incredibly distracting.

Do 1-size only, Square Zones Defeat the Purpose of Curved & Omni-Directional Roads?
rtil replied to PLB82's topic in Cities XXL
i agree. there's a lot of potential for it, but if they're keeping the strict 3x3 grid regiment from anything to small rural houses to skyscrapers, it's nothing more than a novelty tool. -
it should not have let me build this.

I actually think the attention to detail on zoom levels compared to performance in CXL is pretty impressive. that being said, though, it doesn't change the fact that the game itself just screams sub-par.

i will wait a few months and see if they fix all the things they could get right later on.
