1340 1351. Someone did, for sure. It appears to be deathtoall, who posted a number about 6 lower than the actual post count.

I'm afraid to post a number, because I think Duke is wrong. If you go from the reply number, and add 2 (like Duke said) were at 1335 now. So and looks like we skipped a number here too, so this should be, if I'm not wrong...

1356

Yes, this is kitty.

1357

By that formula I should be posting 1355 right now. But we may need a new formula now, not to mention lots of editing. We'll figure it out.

1358. No, you should now add 3 to the replies number for some reason. I don't know what happened, I guess it was a server hick-up, as I clearly remember having post 1339 above me, when I posted 1340. Just for check the number:

45*30= 1350

And with this post, there are 8 posts on this page, making a total of 1358, so unless we've got ourselves a PFB, this number is correct, and I'd love to know dirks explanation about what happened, as having to fix everything every week is not worth the effort. Page 45 does need a clean-up though.

1360. Well, the sniping certainly doesn't help.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

1362. That's odd Blue Lightning. Never had that happen before.

Now Miley Cyrus got an underage tattoo. That girl is DESPERATE to get away from the Hannah Montana- Disney world. Look at what she has done since April when the Hannah Montana movie came out. That was the coverup for when she ditched the whole Hannah Montana thing. Obviously not the TV show, she signed on 2 more seasons with Disney.

Personal recommendation? Forget about the "number of replies + X" methodology, since it's proving unreliable.

The universal rule of thumb, though, is that there's always 30 posts to a page, so the first post on any page will always be one more than a multiple of 30. Then you can count from there to check.

We're on page 46 here. 45 × 30 + 1 = 1351, which is what Korot's post up there is reporting, so just count from there and you're good.

    Yeah, that works.

Did anyone notice the post #'s on mine and Duke's posts? Korot's was close too.

    Korot 1653650

    Duke87 1653657

    Muck308 1653658

Mine and Duke's were right after another, which isn't all that unusual I suppose. There couldn't have been too much activity on the site at that moment, the proper time of which I'm not sure of. Some time between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm EST December, 4th. They are reading six minutes apart, but who knows if the phantom times are accuarte as far as time between posts.

1367 At SC4D there's a post counter instead of that long number here at ST. A post counter for each thread should be easier than a mod for each thread...

1369. Muck: There can't be just 7 posts between mine on the top of the page and Duke's one above you. And Duke: I fixed that number after making 1358, just to reduce the confusion. However, I'm still very sure that I posted right after number 1339, and I still haven't got a clue about what happened.

    1370

Well, the posts that went awry all seem to have a post time of around 12 am on December 5th. (EST) But since they were at that time, the posts made after them came up before since whatever went wrong was corrected. Our "future posts" remained at the bottom of the thread even after people posted after us. I've never seen that happen before. I had a future post in N106's cj that I edited twice before the time of that post came around. But no mention of editing was placed at the bottom. I had hoped it would say I edited the post before I posted it. But no go.

1371. Lol, a thread mod wouldn't work, well I don't think so anyway. And that would be a little weird too. But I'll fix it all up tonight. I'm working today. Just wait till the new page pops up and you should be fine again. But, until that time, just follow the numbers.

1372. Hamish, when you fix it, would you please start with your own post, should be 1371.

Muck: Didn't something like that happen around the time we went back to normal time from DST. I would seriously enjoy an official explanation from Dirk though.

1376 - Larks, as far as I know, no. It would be possible if dirk made his own forum software, but there is only mods for each board.

Depends on the audience. There are some things that a lot of people won't be able to understand a "good explanation" for.

For instance, which is easier to understand?

    summoments.png

    Where:

ΣMA = the sum of all moments about point A (=0, if the system is in equilibrium)

F = the magnitude of each force

r = the position vector of each force with respect to point A

    or

"the weight on one side of the seesaw has to equal the weight on the other side"

The first is a better explanation. The second is severely dumbed down for the sake of putting it in laymen's terms.
