My favourite building is Taipei 101, and my favourite archetectural style is Structual Impressionism. After that, the Whalen Building in Thunder Bay, and Neo-Gothicism. Then the Provincial Building(Thunder Bay), and Post Modern.

-I also like Brutalism. Ugly, but weird to look at!

I have to say my favorite buildings are still the WTC Towers. I just can't let go of them. I'm sure the architecture is just part of it, but they will always be my favorites. As far as architectural style, I'd have to say it's the New York style of the early 1900's.

    Minoru Yamasaki designed WTC.  Interesting fact:  He was afraid of heights...hence the narrowness of the windows (only 18, I believe).

    My favorite building...that's tough...but I like St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC.

    My favorite (skyscraper) style is postmodernism and turn-of-the-century-1930s styles such as Beaux Arts and neo-gothicism.

    My favorite skyscraper...hard to say, but I like Rockefeller Center and the Woolworth Building in NYC.

    I used to be a big fan of the structural expressionism, but when I started with BAT I found the beauty of older styles. I have three favourite styles now: (not in any particular order)
    -Neoclasssical. -Not much of an original style, but it brings the beauty of ancient Greece and Rome to our days.
    FotoUASLP.jpg
    -Exotic Baroque, also known as Churrigueresco. -Full of grace and beauty. Quite exotic too 3.gif.
    ciudadmx-casadelosazulejos02.jpg
    -Art Nouveau. -Very French, but extended to many nations. Femenine, natural, exotic and delicated shapes. Very eye-pleasing. A noticeable use of stained glass.
    ArtNouveau.jpg

    I also like Beaux Arts and the other styles of Baroque, but those 3 are my favourite ones.

    As for a favourite building, I can't really decide... But my favourites are Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Teatro Nacional (Havana), La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona) and Catedral de Zacatecas (Zacatecas, Mexico).

    Modernism in its various guises, definitely.  Particularly seaside style architecture and Brutalism.  As for my favourite buildings, they would be Portsmouth's Clarence Pier or Tricorn Centre (now demolished 26.gif ) or London's Barbican Centre.

    I would definitely rather postmodern over any other style, but some certain buildings which or not actually postmodern are pretty cool 19.gif

    I love Brutalism and Organic Modernism all the way,
    Le Corbusier, FLW, Niemeyer and a lot of the 1960's/70's stuff.
    niteroi.jpg' height=300 width=400
    Oscar Neimeyer rocks
    whole3.jpg
    As does Frank Lloyd Wright (Although this building of his design was constructed after he died)
    le%20corbusier%20monument.jpg
    Le Corbusier rocks (although this picture doesn't show much)
    250px-SouthBankCentre02.jpg'height=300 w
    And Le Corbusier's Brutalism rocks too.

    stuff like that.

    As for more recent things,
    I love deconstructionism and soft-modernism. Liebeskind.
    Although I find Frank Gehry's deconstructionism to be pretentious and uninspired.

    Liebeskind Rocks:
    2.Libeskind.jpg'height=300 width=400
    index.jpg'height=300 width=400

    And Gehry sucks:
    aug00home2.jpg'height=300 width=400
    edgemar2.jpg'height=300 width=400

    And there are a few international style buildings I like, I suppose. But I passionately hate postmodernism

    This is why:
    colsangle.jpg'height=300 width=400
    T041606A.jpg'height=300 width=400
    gordonwuhall.jpg'height=300 width=400
    (I really dislike Robert Venturi)

    I just like good architecture that knows what it wants to be and either works with the surrounding environment or dominates it depending on the buildings design purpose.

    Though i must admit, anything with columns is very close to my heart, lol.

    Those Victorian transport edifices look great Tonks, they were designed to uplift the spirit and impress you with their solidity and permanence, and many of the best examples are still around today.

    The Canals and Railways in my opinion have always been a defining aspect of this Country. Indeed we were the first Counry to have a network of railway lines and we have a really good canal network with the prettyest barges around (just dont try and drive one, i caused a traffic jam on the Kennet and Avon canal, oops).

    I love UK buildings of the Era, and the massive mills up north have always interested me, Buildings at 10-12 stories in the 19th century.

    ^ I like FCP , I'm surprised that some people don't like First Canadian Place, it goes in the skyline very well.

    My favourite stlyes would have to be gothic and art deco. There is some modern architecture I like quite a lot though. 19.gif

    Me? I like bricks, bricks more bricks. With some steel thrown on there as an accent. Especially green steel. Buildings that look like they are going to be there forever.

    Like the Bank of America Building in Baltimore. Just look at those shoulders. Broad! (And probably my most favorite building)
    bankofamerica02.jpg

    And I like how it can go from really tall to really long. Like the longest Warehouse in the East Coast. The B&O Warehouse in the Camden District. Sure, there was a time it wasn't being used. But it survived a lot. Some fires, the decline of industry in the area, and a Ken Griffey Jr. homerun.
    004wareh.jpg

    And no matter the changing tide of thought. Like getting powerplants away from tourist attractions, seriously? They said that? The buildings stand, even under new management.

    Actually, the windows were narrow because the exterior beams held the building up (no internal columns, except for the core).

    Anyway, my favorite styles are Art Deco/Neo-gothic.
    Favorite building, easy, Woolworth, though the Chrystler Building is a close second.

    Hdorriker: Yes,I loathe THAT type of postmodernism. I only like it if it is applied in a proper neoclassical fashion to a building. Stuff like that, as well as works by Micheal graves- blech. I'll stick to KPF, and Phillip Johnson.
