Question for those who may know:

If I buy a 1 month subscription only, will I be able to add busses to my solo cities and when the 1 month sub gets cancelled will I get to keep playing my solo city with busses. If all it takes is 6$ to get busses in my solo city, I will do it.quote>

I'm sorry to say but that is not possible..

PO users can't use the buses in their SP city's either...

Thanks for the reply. Although I am disappointed that buses aren't available to solo players the fact that even PO subs can't build buses in solo cities gives me hope that they will eventually release buses to solo cities, subscribed or not. I will just have to wait until then.

Actually Stef, it's the other way around: if the usage is low the dot is green, if it's high it's red. Meaning that the line is cramped... The tutorial says that if the bus is too full, people might decide to use their cars instead, so the best think to do I guess is maintain line usage around 60 - 70 %.

I also wanted to add the following points:

- Deleting a line - you can do that from the bus info screen. On the right side there's a delete button. Also, demolishing the terminal will obviously delete all associated lines.

- Automathically retracing a line: if you have two specific areas to connect and don't want to go through placing all stops for the return trip, you could do a circle at some point, click on a bus stop from the same line and then confirm. The back trip will be calculated automatically along the same line.

- Combining lines: you can 'cross' two different bus lines. To do that just place a stop close to the stop of another line (the cursor will highlight it automatically when it's close enough). The people using those lines will now be able to switch lines at this point. You can, for example, cross lines from two or more terminals, creating a neat network. This will also improve your other lines' usage.

- Line usage dynamics: once you've created a line, wait for couple of minutes to actually see it's efficiency. The engine doesn't calculate it immediately; it takes some time. So, when creating a line and seeing that the usage is 0%, don't be too ready to delete it! Wait a bit...

To "soltangris"--Thank you so much for providing this in-depth look at the buses. Do you know if MC will update their "manual" to include such a presentation? What's the point of having an on-line accessible manual if you don't keep it up with the game?

My pleasure, Rik. I enjoy contributing objectively to the community. To answer your question - I don't know if MC are gonna include such info in the manual (actually, I haven't even downloaded it yet), but I suppose they will. Untill then, you could do the in-game tutorial (from the tutorials menu, 'mass transit'), it's pretty good.

Do we really need metro/sub/trains/taxis/airbaloons next? Buses seem to cover the traffic problems really well. I say give us a ferry so we can transport people within the city but also from harbours to Omni for slaughter.

Question about buses, is there a way to rework a bus line once it has been layed out and confirmed?

I'm hoping for trains next, actually. Metro will kinda cover the same ground as the busses - traffic problems in the city, while trains with their freight capablilites are expected to cover another sore spot - bringing freight to the middle of the maps.

Hoping to see both passenger and freight trains, for starters, running on the same type of tracks. And later - who knows? Bullet trains?

The bus system looks like a lot of fun.  Too bad it's only for subscribers.

Mass transit is absolutlely vital in a modern city-building game.  For me, it's the most enjoyable aspect of city-building.

It should be in any self-respecting modern city simulator to start with.  But, barring that, releasing it later as payware, while by no means optimal, would still be something I could live with.

But expecting a monthly fee for something so basic is beyond the pale.  If I were to buy this game and subscribe, in 12 months (with the new pricing scheme), I would have effectvely bought the game 4 times over just to have the privilege of access to something which should have been included from the start.

As such, I won't be buying Cities XL until this content is available as a conventional payware add-on.

Trains....

Can you explain this?

cxlscreenshotvolcanobay.jpg

How can I connect this factory if I don't have railways?

Maybe this building is a "transit enabled lot"!

(don't know if someone altready posted this picture)

I'm looking forward to trains. Much prefer them to buses in games and reality. I want to cram my city centres with people so I'll need the capacity trains offer to ferry people in and out.

I subscribed for PO for one month just to see the buses. Well, I have to say: very good job, MC. The buses are very easy to manage, not so expensive (I have 23 000 city with 2 bus lines and I'm on great income), greatly reduces traffic. And one very important thing - people in Cities XL like taking the bus, not like those in SC4 2.gif Again: very good job MC, I hope you have the same success with trains and so on 2.gif
