Too big and we already have two SF maps available for dl. A big one [but you cannot make the Golden Gate], or the smaller one [in which you can build the Golden Gate]. Take a look at the very first post of this thread and you'll find links to all NHP maps.

hey, blake! your maps are brilliant and i wanted to make a request.

    Elk Grove, CA, my hometown

    20962487.jpg

the yellow line is the border between Sacramento (top) and Elk Grove (middle).

i'd appreaciate it if you could make this map. if you want the google earth image,

the two city's borders run along Calvine Rd. and Cosummness Blvd.

    Thanks!9.gif

    I'm writing a trilogy.

For a longtime I've been seeing requests asking for fantasy maps with mountains, hills, rivers coastlines and lots of flat areas in which to build on.  Well, I took a break from playing a region I'm hoping to turn into a MD someday and decided to see what I could do to covers some of these requests.  This time though instead of spending dozens upon dozens of hours hand-drawing a map, I decided to find me some real world terrain that would fit the bill.  I found five places that fit the basic requirements, Mountains, hills, coastline and quite a bit of flatlands to go around.  These five new fantasy will be part of a series I'm going to call "Somewhere In The World" or SITW for short.  These maps will be accurately scaled for size and elevation, the only altered parts will be the river systems I draw in with TerraFormer.

The first map is is a coastal map which features mountain ranges forming a wide valley that curves into an elongated 's' formation, with the valley's western end meeting the sea.  Two major rivers converge near the coastline, one running north-westward from the south-central border of the region, while the other meanders the entire length of the valley from it's eastern end until it meets the sea at the western end.

    Specifics:

    Map Size: 13x9 large tiles or 52km x 36km

Elevation:  HP1870.9M    LP 250M  Seafloor is set at 210M, -40M below sea level in the game.

Dependencies: Either SC4 Mapper or SC4 Terraformer for importing.

    Terrain Mod: Heblem's Yucatan

    TerraFormer View:

    grandrivertf01a.jpg

    Regional TerraFormer View:

Regional View w/o Trees: click image for larger size.

    grandrivervalleyrc02b.jpg

Regional View w/ Trees click image for larger size

    grandrivervalleyrc01b.jpg

Expect to see this map available for download soon.  Also, keep checking back to see the remaining SITW maps.

One last thing, I do not remember which part of the world the data is for, didn't bother to make note of it since these maps are going to be fantasy anyways, so if ya ask, my answer is I don't know.

Nice to see you've fixed this map finally Blade. It was a little low, did you bump the height also?

    Cheers

No, the elevation is the same, no need to adjust when it was accurately scaled to begin with.2.gif

Ok, you got Eau Claire, but as for La Crosse [i didn't notice that earlier] I have tried to get that mapped, but have had some elevation issues with it.  The Eau Claire map is a 7x8 large tile map, or 28km x 32km in size.  I had to futz with the elevation levels in order to have the Chippewa River show, but the highest point is accurately scaled from the lowest point as well as accurately scaled for size.

    Here's the TerraFormer grid image:

    eauclairetf01a.jpg

I still have to render this yet and will release it along with the SITW map series I'm currently working on/releasing.

Glad to see you back in action Blade!  Love the new maps and the updated Vancouver one!  Any chance you'll be doing international locations again?  I might've asked you this already but don't really remember (sorry, I'm getting old haha).  Any chance you could try to do a Singapore map?  Also an NHP Paris, France would be really cool to see as well.

Sorry it took a couple of days to answer you, but after I saw your post the other day, I went looking for the Singapore data I downloaded and couldn't find it.  So I'll have to go get it again.  As for Paris, I'll look into it.

Thanks Blade!  I've been looking for a good map for those two regions for years, of course, nothing would be cooler than to see NHP versions of each 29.gif

Hey, you guys are putting out some great looking maps. I live in Campbell, CA and was wondering if you could design a map of Silicon Valley or San Jose, CA and vicinity. Most of the Bay Area maps out there either don't include the south bay or it isn't shown to scale. Anyway, I'm looking forward to any new CA maps that you guys might be putting out. Fresno?

    Cheers and thanks.

Pretty much a flat and uninteresting map.  If you like it well enough, I'll render it and release it with the next batch of releases in about a week.

As for San Jose this is what the data gives you, also taken from 1/3 arc [10M] DEM data:

    sanjosedemdata.jpg

As you can, there seems to be a problem with the south end of the bay as you can see from the Google image below...

    sanjosegoogle.jpg

Notice the difference?  This is probably why no-one has done San Jose when making a map of the Bay Area.

I have been trying to create a map of Pripyat, Ukraine but all hopes have been lost. Ever since the Chernobyl Plant blew up in 1986, they have basically taken that entire area off the face of the planet. Google maps provides the best view but no roads are named, no points of interests are there. I would like to recreate it, have a nuclear meltdown...and rebuild the town on the outskirts of the affected area. Kinda my way of invisioning the hopes of all the people that were taken and evacuated. The town had a rough population of 55,000 ukrainians all removed within 24hrs. Not including the surrounding area of farms and small towns in the 350 sqaure mile quarentine area. The affected area will remain a no mans land for more than 600yrs. Please, I would like to recreate this once great city and you help would be appreciated, Thank you.

Yeah, Fresno looks good.  Thanks for doing that.  I'm not sure I see what you're talking about with the San Jose map.  I think the problem you're referring to is just the bunch of sloughs and marsh that border the region.  The actual bay ends somewhere north of the area that you are showing.  So, If you render it and divide it into townships, won't it turn out fine?

Sorry about the late response.  I didn't think you'd get back to me so soon.  I'll be sure to check the message boards more frequently next time.

Also, if you're bored and need something to do, can you draw up Clear Lake and Lake Tahoe, CA?  If you're not familiar, Clear Lake is in northern California between Santa Rosa and Eureka.  Tahoe's on the CA/NV border near Reno.  Thanks, and you da man!

Just to let you know Matt, I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, so I know Cali pretty good.2.gif  Hell, I even went to high school with Randall Cunninham, you know, the QB from the Eagles19.gif in the 80s-90s.

As for the rest of your requests, I'll take a look and see.  One thing I can tell you about Lake Tahoe is that the lakebed will be above sea level if you want it accurately scaled, if I lower the elevation, there are areas around the lake that are lower in elevation, so that creates another problem.  I'll see what I ca do though.  First though, I have a few other requests to get done and released before I take on any more.  Don't want to get to far behind20.gif
