When I try to download thing of off simtropolis, I have to use Winrar. Since Winrar is not free, is there a way to donload thing without Winrar?

Thanks

I myself use UltimateZip (ultimatezip.com). It has a pay version, but I use the free version, which I think is the same except that it has a startup screen that takes a couple of seconds to go away. It also occaisionally locks up when exiting, but this might have been fixed in newer versions. However, it reads just about any archive type you can think of.

If you want open source, you can use 7-zip (7-zip.org).

So for ultimate-zip it asks me to choose credit check, real player,  emusic, etc... Which one should I use? And also for 7-zip, when i download it then can I download things from Simtroplis?

I find it so funny that winrar keeps telling me the trial will run out, even though I've used for like 3 years or so. Maybe more.

WinRAR has an unlimited trial period. Even though it keeps telling you to pay, there's nothing at all to make you do so, and apparently RarLab doesn't care enough to change that.

Yeah, WinRAR will last as long as you want it to, but I myself prefer 7-Zip since it's open source and it won't nag you to buy it. Also it has a native x64 version so if you have a 64 bit version of Windows it will run a bit faster. And it has a nice right click context menu, and it supports ZIP, RAR, 7z, tar, etc. Best freeware compression program for Windows IMO.

You can always download from Simtropolis. An unzipper program is neccessary to open up the files.

As bluemoose says, Vista and XP have an unzipper which you can use to move the files from the zip file into your plugins folder. It works just like a standard folder.

To download Ultimatezip, go into the download tabs on thier website, and select the first link (ultimatezip 4.0.2 download from CNET)

7-zip should work just like winrar. You install it, then double click on any zipped file, and then move everything needed from the zip file into your plugins folder. You can also right click on any zipped file, hover over the 7-zip submenu, and then select "extract files..."

For winrar, I presume as others have said you can just close the dialog window that comes up saying that your trial has expired. I haven't used the program in a while though.

Also, please edit your posts instead of making another post if little time (less than a day or so) has passed and nobody has posted after your post.

You can use Windows built in compressed folder to unzip files. Right click on the file and choose "Extract all", then choose where you want the files to be extracted.
