Ok I've fumbled around with XP theme customizer software with no success. I tried WindowBlinds and it causes my computer to lag like nothing else in this world -all without completely loading a theme- and I tried DesktopX and have found it to never completely load a theme either.

I just want to change my taskbar and window titlebars to black. (Similar to NightlinerSGS's and sim1234's desktops) And maybe some other stuff if it's simple and useful. So can someone help me with this or at least point me in the right direction? (Oh and I want to keep it sleek and modern looking so I dislike the Windows Classic stuff)

Thanks!

Hmm, WindowBlinds shouldn't make your computer lag... It actually uses less system resources than the default luna skin...

But anyways, I think the best thing for you would be something called MS Styles. They are extremely simple to use, and require no extra programs (Just download, and click the .MS Style file in the zip)

There is an extensive archive of MS Styles at DeviantART

Heres a link (Too lazy to make a hyperlink 3.gif)

I don't think it's a resource issue. My computer is pretty loaded. I was reading some things and I think it might have to do with my AMD processor. Maybe WindowBlinds isn't compatable with the 64bit processor? I wouldn't think it would be an issue, though, since XP runs in 32bit.

But thanks for the link. I'll definately check that out.

EDIT:  Very nice and easy MayorTim.  Just one question though.  The first one I downloaded had an .exe install that put in the themes drop menu.  The second one I installed just had the .zip with the .msstyle and a folder with other stuff.  I doubleclicked on the msstyle file but I just opened up the appearance diolog box.  It didn't do anything, though.  And I don't have any option to select it.  Do I need to put the files somewhere?

About the icons, everything I need is on the Dock: Internet, SimCity 4, Rome:Total War, Halo, Quake IV, F.E.A.R., and CounterStrike: Source.

Sometime this summer I'll sit down and organize everything.  Hopefully. 3.gif

thesonofgray: It's not the processor.  Most people who customize their computers to that extent are pretty well educated with computers, and thus use an AMD Athlon 64/X2 processor.  Maybe your graphics card?

Yipeee!     39.gif

I finally got something to work.  After messing with WindowBlinds and DesktopX for like a week, just replacing the UxTheme.dll file with a hacked version has unleashed the world of non-blah XP to me.

Here are some shots of my new screen apparel.

With Prague background:

With earth lights background:

And it also matches perfectly with my firefox skin I've had for a while:

So do ya'll like it with the Prague or earth lights background?

I've made the wallpaper myself. I like to keep it clean, as you can see. Nice desktops, everyone.

Here's mine:

It's a picture of my house, taken from the same angle of the picture of my house hanging above my computer. (It looks much better in the painting, because the painting was, like, 20 years ago, and the artist made it look better)

EDIT:Jeez. Just looked at it again. I think I might hold off on posting here until some things get fixed up. Might be a year or ten.

I operate a tidy desktop policy..so mine's quite empty, apart from the giant pic of number one son.

Me haveth un new desktopp.

Since last August, my desktop changes have been less frequent since I'm now on a widescreen monitor, and nobody makes desktops for widescreen, so I'm stuck finding some other image that's mostly proportional and just stretching the image to 1280x768.

I also have a widescreen monitor, and I use this site for wallpapers - there are hundreds of them, and they come in almost every widescreen size. Just download, right click, and click "Set as desktop."  Of course, I doubt there are very many Megaman wallpapers there...

Another a good place to look is DeviantART.

Doesn't show up officer. Read the tutorial on putting images into your post in the Omnibus.

Heres my newest Summer-ish desktop. Will probably last 2 days or so before I get bored of it.

Here's my desktop.  That's the Tenerife Opera House, btw.  I run at 1152 x 864, which is an odd resolution, but anything larger is too small for me to see effectively.

I usually either have architectural shots, Chicago skyline shots, or urban photos of Chicago taken from Flickr.

That is, IMO, an extremely ugly building, and I am not such a fan of sidebars in general, but everything does compliment each other very well!

Nice!

It's a style which you can have in WindowBlinds, the website can be found here. The skin is called VistaXP and it's the "Black BETA 2" version of the skin.
