I don't know if that's my game problem or bug:

Under Miscellaneous Transportation, I have 8 exactly same Subway building icons after installing that version of NAM.

Any ideas what caused that?

Thanks.

EDIT:

I have MAC version of SC4

When you placed the NAM folder in your Plugins, did you read the installation instructions in the Documentation folder? There are several things you need to manually setup to meet the optional requirements. If you just place the entire NAM folder (Mac version) into the plugins, several things could be duplicated, thus causing your issue. Just a thought...

Actually, I tried it, and, sure enough, had eight subway tools...

Hope this helps...

Edit: Did a little more checking... Looks like you put all the Traffic Simulator files in at the same time. You need to delete all but the one you want to use.

And the same thing goes for the Volume Data View files as well.

Looks like you're using an Avenue/Texture mod. Could be a result of that. Which one(s) are you using? Looks like the Euro Texture mod at least.

Edit: Don't know what I was thinking... Well I do, but it's too embarrassing to mention... 8.gif   Restated below...

Sorry about that... Yes, you're right. I was was totally thinking about something else... 8.gif

It looks like the shades used to create the turning lanes section (part of NAM) were a bit different than the game's texture (I know color can be tricky). I just checked my game with just the NAM installed, and it was the same. However, with some of my other plugins in place, the issue does not appear. I'll go through what I have and see what is changing it.

Later: OK, It looks like using ebina's crosswalk mod made the shades closer....

Before...

AveTexture1.jpg

And after...

AveTexture2.jpg

If you're interested in using the mod, there's two versions: one for white crosswalks and one for yellow crosswalks.

Hope this helps somewhat...

Yes, I have noticed the same thing with the avenues - not with the roads, though.  It looks like something that someone in the NAM needs to fix.

As some of you know , this is one of the things that I also can't stand! I have discussed this before and although the NAM crossroads look this way , other addons look fine. I,myself modded a set done by Mas san (Mas71) because I like his more than the rest.

Mas1.jpg

This is a before image with both parts of Mas sans mod.

Mas2.jpg

And this is after. Mas san did an excellent job with the mod , but I hate grass edges!

His mod can be found in a link over at Devotion. Because it is on his own host , I am not hot linking.

That's not really a bug, but an improper use of the roads. 2.gif

About the different shade of the avenue intersection texture: I wasn't aware that it hasn't been fixed yet. I use the Euro Road Textures Mod, and it looks fine for me - apparently, it already contains a fixed texture. If it's the same with just the color fix (but no special Euro features), I could include that one in the NAM files.

Posting the same thing twice is kinda frowned upon. Also, then getting an attitude when someone doesn't reply to your comment immediately is just down right rude.

The GLR is a part of the NAM download. Since you haven't posted any information about what you've done already, I'm going to start with telling you to try downloading the NAM, here.

I'm gonna let the having posted the same thing twice thing pass because you posted them both at the same time and I've accidently done that a few times myself (like my latest thread) but dont go and like Jacob said don't get an attitude, the internet may be lightning fast but the users who post here aren't, we don't always reply in five seconds, sometimes not ever.

I got a CJ, Waterbridge, i'm not a hyperlink expert but search it and it should come up :)

patience is a virtue ... but seems to only come with age.

And since while I'm here ... was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction:

I have the March 09 version of the NAM installed (haven't upgraded yet although it's really irrelevant to my problem) and I also have ebina's mods

for the original GLR textures installed. Everything looks fine except I'm missing the corner puzzle piece (transparent base) with the original texture. All the other original

texture pieces seem to be there. Just that one is missing. For track outside the city I really prefer the original (transparent base) version but can't really do what

I'd like without the transparent base corner (90 degree) piece (kinda hard to make turns, lol). Any ideas ?

JayStimson...

If I'm understanding you, your looking for a 90 degree piece without the sidewalks to use in rural areas? I don't believe that was ever made, however, there is a starter piece for the rural-looking GLR that can be used to drag a curve for the rural GLR. One thing, though, it seems to be able to make two 45 degree turns rather than one 90 degree turn. Also, you mentioned you have the March 09 version of NAM. I don't remember for sure, but these abilities may have been incorporated in later versions. Just a thought...

CaptCity: Thanks. I'll take a look. But to be clear, I'm wanting a transparent base. I post my findings.

I've purchased a new SC4 game not too long ago and downloaded all the NAM mods. Everythings seems to be ok but when I place all the transit networks and roads down sometimes I get glitches. When I accidently destroy some commercial, residential, and industrial areas, I get buildings that keep reappearing when I buildose them and they never go away even if i dezone the area. Was anyone having the same problems?

Cmonster59: Is this SC4 with RH or SC4 Deluxe ? You must have RH (Rush Hour) which comes with Deluxe. I'm pretty sure it's a requirement for the NAM. Other than that I'm not sure I understand everything you're telling us. A screenshot or two with a few notes might help.

JayStimson...

Thought I would take another look at your question. I was curious about not being able to make a 90 degree turn with the draggable tracks because I thought I could before.

With the newest NAM, I came up with the following...

GLRTurns.jpg

The track on the left (with ebina's original track mod) was possible only with the 90° piece. The track on the right (rural) was the only way I could get a turn. There is no 90° turn piece for the rural tracks.

Well, then I replaced my NAM files with the March 09 version (I'm a packrat) which is what you said you have. With that version, I was able to do this...

GLRTurns2.jpg

Both of the tracks were made with the draggable tracks using the starter pieces. If I understood your original question, you were trying to get the turn on the right? This is possible by tabbing through the GLR starter pices to find the rural piece. So obviously something changed between the March 09 version of NAM and the current version.

Well, then a bell went off in my head. I believe the lack of being able to create the 90° turns came up over at SC4Devotion in the NAM thread. I'll have to look to be sure. Yes, it is a known problem and is being looked into.

Anyway, to wrap up this long story, you should be able to create the turn with the March NAM. If that was, indeed, your question...

The turn with the track with the transparent base is actually the more appropriate solution since a sharp 90 degree turn is pretty unrealistic. I should have been more clear. My bad.

Thanks to both of you for looking into this. Much appreciated.

Awesome! I can build canals now!! =D

I wonder though... I'm still trying to figure out how to access the textures so I can make my own versions of roads and highways... =/

Hi there, here is the strange thing happening to me. I reinstalled Sc4 deluxe, played a bit and really enjoyed it.

Browsing a bit I found out about the NAM. All good stuff, I couldn't wait. Download, install, and start a city again. But now, the sims wont recognize any means of transportation with the NAM. No roads, no train, no sub, nothing. They are in the budget as costs, they show up on the map, but somehow not used at all.

Can't grow a city 15.gif it started with the train network being unsued, deinstalled/reinstalled NAM + esentials, and then nothing works.

Makes me a sad panda, would LOVE to play the game with the NAM, vanilla is not enough for me. Anyone had this happening to them too ?

Zeval31, first of all, welcome to Simtropolis!

It sounds like you may be suffering from two possible issues that are the result of selecting the wrong options in the NAM.

The first of these has to do with Right-Hand Drive (RHD, all vehicles traveling on the right side of the road/railroad) vs. Left-Hand Drive (LHD, all vehicles traveling on the left side of the road/railroad).

In all likelihood, you have an LHD game but didn't install the NAM LHD Plugin (it's the last option on the list in the NAM Installer).  Failing to install the LHD Plugin in an LHD game causes all rail-based transport to stop working.

The second is your Traffic Plugin option.  If there's no cars on your roads, it sounds like you may have installed a "Park & Ride" Plugin.  This requires that cars park in parking lots in order to reach their destinations, and if you don't have the parking lots, your sims will walk everywhere.

I'd suggest doing a re-install.  Also, you don't need NAM Essentials--as of right now, the files in the NAM Essentials are already included in the main NAM download (this is not always the case, but most of the time, it is).

Hope that helps!

-Alex (Tarkus)
