SC Societies, worst game ever?

Although I did like the fact that you can build theme cities. IF they only put more effort into the game instead of sales. Then this would or nearly as good as SC4 at-least.

Not the worst game graphic wise, but Tillted Mill definitely lost the entire concept while trying to make a seaquel

SCS was okay in the beginning, then went downhill from there. The only 2 upsides were:

1: You can see the smog and pollution in the air much easier in 3D

2: The themed cities, especially the haunted easter egg14.gif

But if you think that the game is the worst, visit this page sometime:

Just my cent. 2 cents is too expensive these days.

But the point of SCS is completely different from SC4, and most people here don't seem to get the distinction. SCS is for the most part a creative challenge: build the best looking/most interesting city you can, because you have some absolutely beautiful graphics and graphic effects to work with that quite frankly blow away anything in SC4. The raw landscape one starts with can be truly breathtaking, especially the deserts; the camera options allow for views that don't exist in SC4; and the day/night cycle is beautiful to watch, and even changes character depending on which 'society' you've opted for. So seriously, unless you've really given it a try and not just dabbled for a few hours, don't disrespect SCS. For the player who loves the aesthetic aspect of city building, it's a damn good game.quote>

I'm with you 100%. I recently bought myself a brand new super powerful computer, and I decided to buy SCS at a discounted 10$. Well, it blew me away and I'm addicted since. The graphics, views and sceneries are just breathtaking. Of course it is not as detailed as SC4 (transportation wise especially), but SCS is easier and more beautiful to look at. With my new super computer, I've put all SCS graphics settings to HIGH and the game rocks!!!! It doesnt crash, it's fast and so beautiful to look at.

I'm sure without even looking at that list, ET: the Extraterrestrial is on there. We have a copy in our basement, and it's even worse than SCS, possibly the worst game ever.

But on topic, I have to say I'm neutral about Societies. I'm not a fan of some of the concepts, but there are some good concepts, too. I can't really complain about the graphics; they're better than SC4 in most sense. The gameplay is a challenge for civics, but growing a city is too easy. SCS may not be the greatest game ever, but it's not bad.

But when you have Simcity 4, why bother with Societies?

Well when SC4 was so great and how we loved it and how it was an "answer to our dreams," we had VERY high expectations for the next Sim City. I think if EA marketed it as a society game rather than a city-builder game it would not receive as many bad reactions as we give it. Even though I say this, I do think SCS is a below-average game and I uninstalled it after 20 minutes of play.

Yeah I agree! I Loved the challenges and have one to complete yet. There were tough yet something to shoot for and there is plenty of strategy if one takes the time to learn the game! My only dissapointment is EA lack of support.

It is a differant game play then SC4 which I like also. I bet many have not tried to learn the game and complete the challenges cause they are not easy. I spent some time learning the game and once I understood what effects what I really enjoyed it.

Overall SC4 is the best for me so far with this game #2! Flame away, I don't care as IM not afraid to say I like Socities!--))

I must have ended up uninstalling it 5 minutes after play; becuase I know I played societies but I barely remember. All I can say is that is a bad game and the box was just a way to sell that game.

I wish EA would have made a bit more expansion packs for the game.

It appears that people don't know how to play the game.

I've seen some amazing cities for what's out there, but if there was a bigger modding community for it.

This game could be just as awesome as SimCity 4.

Plus SimCity 4 can't do a lot of stuff this game can and I've found myself wanting destination gameplay when I played SC4.

I believe this explains much.

The game was a very, very bad game to even exist in the game stream.

EA games have fired the legendary Maxis team/company just to replace it with the cheaper, less moral Tilting Mill.Tilting Mill did a great job on the graphics and the ability to have 1 theme on 1 city but they just ruined the real concept and soul of the SC series.I didn't even played but sometimes,I get the feeling its like a total remake of any other old city game without zoning. If maxis weren't fired,Simcity Societies would have been a MUCH better game.7.gif

WA HA HA HA HA!!!17.gifYou're Winner!!! Now that's stupid! I read the article on Big Rigs. The best pic they can give is "Rig running into wall". Also, there's no AI so they stay in place. This game made SC: S look awesome! Actually, it was a good game. I played Freeplay only but I made some fantastic cities, especially with Desrinations. There is some marketing hullabaloo, but it ain't bad.

It's a terrible game in and of itself - the add to that the fact it puts malware on your computer makes it even worse. It was an epic fail.

I seen and read so much bashing on this game but I never quite understood what you all meant.

I bought the deluxe pack with destinations so I'll admit I never really saw the original out of the box game.

The creative mode (original) was clear unbelievably easy.  Nothing had a maintenance cost and yes you can bash it was easy.

But very few of you ever talked about playing it on the hard settings.

Compare in simcity 2000 how many of you had a city collapse on you that you started with 20,000 bucks.  And how many have had a hard time getting it running with a $10,000 bond. Except in SC:S it was much more drastic of a spread.

On the hardest rating even the best sim player would have hard time taking over the entire map without collapsing into an abandoned down of hooligans.

The game has more building variety than anything before and you actually have to pay attention to more than just a base building cost as in other simcities.

Don't have to lay down powerlines in SC:S,  who cares.  I pay tens of thousands for a power plant, they can just toss in some underground lines for free.

Also I found the fun in creating a prefectly sculpted city much more fun than in Simcity4.  The way you just run around plaster zones which they autofill in for you.  Didn't do it for me.

Maybe its an each to there own but SC4 was good and SC:S was excellent.

What the f***!!!

SC:S Is Completely stupid it has nothing to do with SimCity games because the game is totally different and SC:S is more democracy than building a Empire

I feel that they should have made maybe another few expansion packs for sc4. If they just used content from here, then it would take about a week to make, and would be easy money. All it has to do it fix bugs, allow complete transit modding, remove the polygon limit for transit, make it runnable on modern computers, and finally just allow complete customisation 3.gif

If Duplo's were made of lead, contained small pieces and had sharp edges, considering what Securom could do to your computer. And as limited as it was if there were only a couple dozen possible things you could build from them.

It's really frustrating placing one house or building at a time rather than zoning.

Search on youtube cities XL. Seems much better. Even better than sc4. Much improved transport

Probably, the whole concept is a mess. The graphics are horrendous, reminds me of puke.

SCS surely isn't the worst computer game ever made but it was a disaster, in my opinion. Maybe there was some merit to it but I always wanted a SC4 with updatd graphics and the tweaks the custom community applied over the years after its release. I naively thought SCS might be a worthy successor to SC4 in that regard but I was wrong. I literally played it twice. The box sits in my desk drawer to this day burried under magazines and other boxes. One of these days I'll fish it out and put it where it belongs: in the garbage.

For me the only negative point is the zoom. I hate it, I can't build this way. The rest is OK and if you get the game for free, it doesn't really matter xD But still, it will never ever have beaten SC4.

It was over a year and a half since the previous post. I think we can safely say this was dead. As such it shall be locked.

And there are a few games that could be fairly considered the worst ever, but SC:S is not one of them. It may not be as good as SC4, but it is nowhere near the abysmal depths of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing or E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
