I was just testing it, so all of them right now. This Joerg's building, and I am not doing anything else with it until he says something.

I have already deleted the growable file I made. It isn't that hard to make them, so if I have to do it again, it will take 5 min. The lots take longer, but that depends on how many you want.

I was just stating that it is possible to make it growable, cause Joerg was having problems doing so.

Sorry to bug you Joerg but I would like to know if you were still working on that speedway of yours on the first page. I'm asking because I could really use a speedway.

That's strange, I was just thinking about this thread. I was about to ask Joerg if he was done with the BAT or was on vacation. So are you on a BAT vacation or no longer making BATs?

Sorry yes ive been on a bat vacation ive got all these new bats and no where to put them so i began a new region. Anyhow i may start again soon or it could be another month or so but i dont know for sure when.

As for making a growable turns out that was a problem with ralphs ploppable set once removing it the problem is fixed. I will get around to updating it some day hopefully.

As for my speedway that might be a lost cause but i dont know yet. I really would like to have a speedway that had cars moving on it with effect but you cant do that in the bat so i may wait to see if maxis may ever give us the option of animation.

And lastly the only real project i have going right now is a slight overhaul to my hospital but the cad file i was using just got corrupted right before i did night lighting i was hoping to begin rendering tonight but i cant now.

Im very tired so here is a quick pick i was just playing simcity today and i said you know the schools in this game suck they are all old fashioned. So a couple hours on the bat and heres what i have so far.

Image removed. Images to be 800x600 max thanks!

In my opinion it will fit in far better as a middle school or elementry school or even small highschool in an american city. Lots more roof detail still needed i think but opinions thus far would be great.

That looks great! It looks more like a building in a municipal airport with terminols or something. Looks cool!

Maybe you could add an additional wing to it for a gymnasium or an auditorium. I agree that the schools suck, and in general most of the other civic buildings suck as well. There just needs to be more variety.

That does look more realistic than the in game schools. This building continues the long line of great municipal buildings by Joerg.

    P.S. How big is it?

Joerg, that is cool!  Yeah the schools in the game are old-fashioned.  I like them okay, but they're totally not what I'm used to, growing up in the American suburbs.  Yours looks completely familiar to me!

Yeah, I agree that the schools in the game are too old fashioned. America's school's today are mostle more modern looking.

Here is the floor plan of the school i drew way back in 7th grade. Anyway you can see there is a gym and a theater and there is more rooms upstairs. I compacted it alot to fit in the game currently it is on about a 6x8 lot which is what i use for many of my grid systems.

if you notice they are all standard square brick style schools which is typical in most of South Dakotaschools, this helps keep them warm in the winter and somewhat cool in the summer.

Your school is awesome, cant wait to use it as a change from how i was raised 22.gif

I do like your modern school building, a lot better than the in game examples, especially for a suburban environment. I would sugest a lot more windows for the building, most schools i know of are big on natural light (thats in the UK). What i would also love to see is a modern set of school buildings for high density res areas.

Well thats a very sharp contrast to here in the midwest. Our school district just remodeled and we lost even more of our windows. But thats becuase in midwestern america a tornado and alot of windows in a school wouldnt be pretty. Here are a few schools from around here. I wish i could get a pic of my current school Salina South High were i currently attend has acctually 6 windows in the entire school no counting windows in the doors. And no its not some small little school we have 1300 students and the building is rather massive.

One of the interesting things about schools is that they grow over time, and that usually there is never enough money to build the extension in the same style that the original was built in, its usually the stock school building design of the moment, heres a picture of my kids school in Colchester, UK, its the local high school with about 1200 pupils, one of the smaller high schools in Colchester
    /idealbb/files/tla.JPG
Its an arial view, not to show the buildings but just the different styles used as it has been extended time and time again over the last 50 years

Here's the elementary school I went to after it was converted into a private residence. It has so much more character than the new ones. It's even more old fashion than the game elementary school.

Ok the school is now up however its a tad smaller than i had wanted. But i think it should work fine being bigger than the games large highschool is. Its a 6x8 lot so it will fit in nicely i think.

i love the building, but still find it hard to be a hospital!  if you have seen, hospitals are very cold buildings.  rectangles stacked on each other to create an effiecient amount of space.  and while your model is wonderful, its not cold enough!

the curves are what really keep it from the cold look of a hospital.  that and the height.  hospitals don't reach for the sky as much because it isn't effiecient.  there is a direct relationship between height and efficiency and if hospitals are built too high, you lose a lot of that efficiency.

so what i'm trying to say is that, while it is a beautiful model, it isn't a hospital.  it couldn't possibly be a hospital because of the height and the loss of efficiency.  what it really looks like is a some government-type building.  don't know what, but it really looks like a United Nations-ish structure.

the improvements are really doing wonders for the model though.  great job joerg.

Hey Joerg, I do like the 'hospital' building it looks much better now, but why is it a hospital??

I agree with n74704 it should be a government building, or a research lab or something. It's just not like a hospital.

I will download it this time though as it looks much better.

I think your update is great, it removes that cartoony (hopefully you know what i mean) look of the original. Its always good to see people update their older buildings with the new technices and skills they have learned, shows they still have pride and a stake in their old creations. I have always liked this particlar building, i understand why people say it dosent feel like a hospital, but its your building and it can be anything you want it to be and i still think it looks futuristic in a Dan Dare sort of way (God am i showing my age2.gif).9.gif
As for tall hospitals, here are a couple of pictures of guys hospital in london founded about 900 years ago, its said to be the tallest hospital in Europe

despite the look of the building, its not quite 900 years old

Acctually in big cities hospitals often time do reach for the sky. It was this in combination with the fact that i knew i couldnt create a realistic sized hospital in sc4 without building up especially one with a large capacity.  Also i really think the building feels very cold alot due to the colors and round is acctually a cooler form than square in my opinion. I do realize that many if not most hopitals are far more square and boring with lots addons that really dont fit in architecutally and they often sprawl several city blocks and usually seem to have very little architectual flare to them. However if i did that it wouldnt be any fun and wouldnt make sense in sc4. So a hospital it remains.

Well, the new textures on the hospital look more real. I don't think the cement time texture looks super good with a thin round tower. Let me take a second look. *takes a second look* I would suggest you increase the size of the two round things by a half.(each would be 150% larger)  In the end it is your call.1.gif

Ok do you guys think it should be just a tad darker or is it good as is then? Also should i put a hospital type of a sign think on the side of the building sort of like the dueling snakes thing medical stuff has. And lastly the dome on top is giving me alot of anguish i dont know what to do with it. Right now it looks like an igloo and that definateally cant happen so any suggestions? Maybe toss it? Maybe give it a new color? I dont know.

I think the colour is perfect, very white and clinical, ideal hospital colour, and the entwined snakes is a great idea to reinforce the purpose of the building. You might want to put some type of receiving area structure near the helipad for a bit more realism and a satellite dish or two would not go amiss. As for the igloo pehaps you could replace it with a covered observation deck with a similar curve to it as the base of the building?
