Ok, i am ripping my hair out. I realize there are many other posts on this and they all say the same things that haven't helped. Everytime I start a new city I get to about 700 people and the no jobs zots start popping up, long commute times with virtualy no traffic. I have tried the NAM, even the industry quadrupler. Still the exact same thing. My R demand is high and all my I and C demands are negative. I just dont get it, what am i doing wrong? Please someone help me! This is just an example of one of the cities i have tried to make:

If you zone I and C does it develop despite being in the negative in the RCI indicator?

Nope it does not develop. This is quite mind boggling, i remeber about a year ago when when i had the game installed previously, i was able to build big cities virtually no problem. The only other thing i can think of is that I did the sku1north America update. I seriously doubt that the problem... im really stumped on this one.

Ok im a damn fool, I just read something about people not having enough time to move into their new jobs if you use cheetah speed. So happens that I may over use cheetah speed. Trying out starting a game without using it and see how it goes. If this is the reason I will feel like the dumbest person to have ever set foot on these boards....

If you're the cheating type of person, I reccomend the Super Demand Ordinance, available in the mods section. It's even good just to jumpstart a city so you get it going. It works every time with me. I'll develop R and C immediately when it is enabled. Let us know if your cheetah speed test did anything.

I sincerly doubt a cheetah speed bug is your prob;em although that is something you should look into.

Have you tried zoning for more industry or commercial (despite the negative values)?

Perhaps you should try a ploppable buliding with jobs if the problem still continues until your city has advanced further.

You know, you should probably not step on it. That could be the problem since you probably stepped on the computer getting to the boards thus breaking it. Unless you mean your floor of course. 3.gif Lame I know.

Are you moving you're sims a cross water? I've had this problem before where my sims would not use the ferries to get the industry I had. It took my sims 5 years (and obliberating my city and spending 5 grand on ferry terminals) to relize, "Hey! Ferry go to jobs. I should ferry to work than just leave. Me smart" If you're the imaptient type, then build a bridge. Also, how far away is the industry? Are you making you're sims travel across a big tile to get to work? Just remeber, keep you're first city simple. Another thought could be that you have a broken road on the way that you over looked. That happened to me once. It could also be a problem with the NAM. Maybe you accidently selected the ledt hand drive in the NAM setup. Just a few things to look into..

In your picture I see that all of your abandoned homes are middle class sims. I see no jobs for them, nor a school to explain their presence. I suggest that you need to zone for more houses, and tax out the middle class sims and see what happens.

I agree with His Divine Hand with the middle class residents. And your problem might be that your city has no connecting cities(at least by the looks of it) and could be the source of your negative demand for jobs. I personally would connect to "SimNation" and that might increase the demand.

I would guess given you have a Mayor's House and a large Park you are creating enough desire to attract middle class even though there is not enough education to support a demand on Mfg Industry or C$$. I would recommend if your money allows to build an elementary school. Reduce the bus radius and amount of students to save money. Let the R$ and R$$ educate themselves and then you see demand of I-M and C$$ and thus be able to keep the R$$ in the little village you got. This may also kill your I-A and I-D but such is the will of the simcosmos.

Or you can tax the R$$ to 20% bulldoze and let the places rebuild with just R$. Then when you feel able to bring the R$$ back into the city reduce the taxes down to whatever % you want.

    Hi, sillyfreshdj,

Welcome to Simtropolis. I've heard people do run the game on cheetah speed, and they aren't actually fools. 3.gif Sometimes it takes the game awhile to catch up with itself when you play on cheetah, but just slowing it down for a bit should allow that. It usually doesn't cause abandonment as I recall. I would try zoning a lot more resdential, with a couple parks to boost desirablility,. Then you will probably see your ag demand go up. When you have enough farms to your liking, you can build a school and a library. You'll probably need a fire station soon with the industry, but some wait until a fire breaks out, then (quick 6.gif plop it. Keep some of your R$ from upgrading, and as they get educated, your demand for commerce should go up. That will better support your R$$, which you will need as well to keep demand stable. I would also plop a couple plazas, and later when you get going better, some police protection. Neighbor connections will boost your industry and ag. Try not to let too many R$$$ develop, as commerce and industry have more percentages of jobs for R$ and R$$. Later on, when you have more cities in your region and plenty of R$ and R$$, you can make an R$$$ city if you like. That's what I would try, let me know how it works.

    Have fun.

I would definitely make all buildings you want to keep historical. That keeps your much needed R$ houses that aren't near a garbage dump from turning into R$$ and R$$$ unnecessarily. They will the $$$ sims (especially) complain endlessly about lack of this and that, and it gets really frustrating when you don't have enough $ sims living in your city. Once your city gets bigger, add schools and then you're ready for the $$ sims that manufacturing industry brings.

So in summary: historicalize everything that you don't want to turn into an unnecessary McMansion.

I tried slowing the game time down recently, didn't seem to work for me! I still have this abandonment problem, although I think I probably wouldn't if I just used small or medium city tiles, rather than the large ones. I've noticed that my computer seems to struggle once about three quarters of a large tile has become urbanised. But after looking at the image in your first post, I would say His Divine Hand's advice is the right sort of thing you should sort out first.

Ok you all, the cheetah speed thing is what did it for me, i now have a decent town and have not had a problem. I only used the first and second speeds the whole time. It feels good to finally be able to play this game again without banging my head of the wall. I guess i Just ran out of patience my second go around it this game. Thanks everyone who replied! Here is a similar small town I just made using the exact same method of zoning i have been trying. As u can see it filled in nicely and all my commute times are either med or short.
