Are you hitting the TAB key to switch through the available ramps?

I'm think maybe it has to do with traffic? Do high traffic avenues and such make for high customers? i have my commercial area in the center of my city surrounded by residential and the industry to outside and separate city. Perhaps the traffic is sprawling outwards out of the city instead of the center (commercial area) of my city. Anyone have tips on how i should zone so i can have a downtown with skyscrapers?

Yeah, i hear ya. But still i tend not to get skyscrapers making my downtown pretty sad looking. I made a separate city and plopped and ton of commercial and it builds so quick (what i would like my downtown in my main city to look like) and i can't understand why it won't build like that in my main.

It seems like my commercial demand is always way too high. I have a city of 100,000 people and about 3/4 of my city is commerce that doesn't seem to become skyscrapers. Seems like i'm always zoning commerce. Even if i try to ignore it i keep getting the popup that says i need to zone high density commerce, when 3/4 of my city is high density commerce. I'm reading posts that people can't get commercial demand and im like "what the hell". I've tried raising taxes and everything. Could i get some tips? Thanks alot!

hey i had this problem also. Try this, after u get the game up and running, press control alt delete to goto your task manager. Find sc4 in your processes. Right click the process and goto where it says select affinity. Disable one of the cpu's and play and see if u crash again. Hyperthreading seems to be an issue with certain games. Sure its a pain in the neck to do this everytime u wanna play but i havent crashed at all since doing this. Hope it works for you too!

Hey people, i'm wondering if you could help me. I have a city with about 50,000 people. I got my University reward but not enough cash to build it. I decided to wait to build it and eventually forgot about it for a few years. I went back to build it and it is greyed out. Ok, I must not have a good enough mayor rating or school rating (according to the prerequisites). So i go back and make sure all my schools, libraries and museums have all 5 "apples" and my mayor rating is sufficent. I wait a few years (a decade to be exact) and still no University. What the heck...Can someone help me with this issue? Dunno what im doing wrong. Thanks alot!

I'll start by saying that i love this site and all the plugins kick a**! Recently i learned that if i use the ctrl key while zoning i can make one big zone easily, instead of doing the very tedious 3x3 lots etc etc. So i circle the streets around the area i want to make residential, lets say 9X9 or something. Then i hold ctrl and plop my residential zone in there. Now for some reason this zone will NEVER develop.... I open one of my larger cities with high res. demand and try it there, and it still never develops. Why would it even give me the option to make a zone that large if nothing will ever happen? Ok you all, the cheetah speed thing is what did it for me, i now have a decent town and have not had a problem. I only used the first and second speeds the whole time. It feels good to finally be able to play this game again without banging my head of the wall. I guess i Just ran out of patience my second go around it this game. Thanks everyone who replied! Here is a similar small town I just made using the exact same method of zoning i have been trying. As u can see it filled in nicely and all my commute times are either med or short.

Ok im a damn fool, I just read something about people not having enough time to move into their new jobs if you use cheetah speed. So happens that I may over use cheetah speed. Trying out starting a game without using it and see how it goes. If this is the reason I will feel like the dumbest person to have ever set foot on these boards....

Nope it does not develop. This is quite mind boggling, i remeber about a year ago when when i had the game installed previously, i was able to build big cities virtually no problem. The only other thing i can think of is that I did the sku1north America update. I seriously doubt that the problem... im really stumped on this one.

Ok, i am ripping my hair out. I realize there are many other posts on this and they all say the same things that haven't helped. Everytime I start a new city I get to about 700 people and the no jobs zots start popping up, long commute times with virtualy no traffic. I have tried the NAM, even the industry quadrupler. Still the exact same thing. My R demand is high and all my I and C demands are negative. I just dont get it, what am i doing wrong? Please someone help me! This is just an example of one of the cities i have tried to make:

I did have a connection to neighbor, don't think that was the problem. Only other think of is i temp disabled hyperthreading by going to process affinity and clicking off one of the cpu's. Oh well, this game is too good to give up. Ill just start a new city and make frequent back ups.
