Would this graphics card be okay for SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if this graphics card would be okay for SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition?  It's a Matrox G550 with 32MB memory.

It should be okay... ...if you never play with plugins. I have a G400 with 32MB and it bogs with plugins quickly. It's really, really annoying after a while.

I would suggest a card with at least 128MB of memory for decent game play.

I have used one with 64MB but it was pretty slow.

stevenoon, as tungston already said, try and buy at least 128MB card, they are not that expensive and playing will be...well, not annoying. More is always better. I'm playing with 512MB like a charm.

Plugins have NOTHING to do with videocard. SC4 is quite an ancient game so rendering capabilities of such card would cover all it's needs. Of course modern cards can offer advantages, like greater amount of on board memory that does speed things a bit and may be faster 3d rendering for all those LODs... but my also present new problems as some implementations have been alter that may lead to glitches in old games, glitches that nobody would bother to check for and consequently fix.

All in all game like SC4 would be more dependent on CPU and memory, than graphic card.

I just wonder why on earth you would by such a card though...

CPU is almost definately the first to bog down with plugins, espec NAM. (Ive noticed this currently as my QX9550 broke so I've got to try and get by with a Celeron D for now) and simcity barely runs anymore, with all the other hardware being the same (4GB 1200Mhz DDR3 ram and a nVidia GF GTX260 896MB videocard).

Why are you even lookiing at such an outdated card? I realise it may be the only one which might go on your motherboard, but you could literally get an entire new base unit for £150 that would be at least 10 times better.
