I just added a few comments to a recent STEX upload, and all of a sudden, the tag "(Author)" appears behind my nick, although the upload is not by me! See for yourselves here.

Nope, not necessary - it has disappeared for me, too. Apparently it only happens when posting right after the actual author, but is only visible to the poster, and only until the upload popup is closed and opened again. (All this is with Opera 10, btw).

I also get messed up code lines that interfere with my comment when I post a comment in IE7 (at work, but don't tell anyone, hehe...), but when I close and re-open the upload window, it also looks fine.

I managed to take a screenshot so you can see I'm not hallucinating...

STEX Server seems to be a bit elderly this morning. Trying to download https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22546&download=1, amongst others (which I've cancelled so I can get the one I really want) and getting, at most, 5 kB/sec though it's dropped off to 2400 B/s now.

Hello, I'm experiencing extremely slow download speed today... (07th March 2010) I'm trying to download this

I starts fairly quickly and then I've got to about 60% of the way through the download and it has just stopped completely. I've tried stopping it and re-starting, I've also tried disabling my anti-virus.

I have tested my internet download speed at Speedtest and it is fine.

I've also noticed that the website in general is acting slow today (pages taking a while to load, images loading as if I was back to the days of dial up!!)

Is there anyone out there looking after this website these days, or has everyone forgotten about SC4 and moved onto Cities XL?? :-(

hello. I have three problems with the site at the moment. I tried searching but went dizzy scanning so many results so hope they haven't been answered before...

1. The "You do not have the latest browser..." message still appears although i'm using IE8 - not too serious really

2. I cannot scroll through the latest posts on the front page using "more". I click it but nothing happens. I can see the first page of posts though

3. I cannot see comments on stex uploads. The little "getting comments" gif just keeps whizzing around forever. Clicking on the comments tab does nothing.

I have latest java, flash etc installed, or at least I think I do, I have checked on the respective websites.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. H.

Are you running ST in compatibility mode?

Might be due to long ST loading times. How long did you wait?

Hi,

I would like to remind you that the forum Search feature (both simple and advanced) is broken for a loooong time now, Is this about to be fixed some time? Don't understand, is this considered a "minor" one? Simply, you CAN"T search the forum!

Another problem is that the ribbon at the bottom hides a (small) part of the page. Maybe add an option to remove or hide it?

Also a "Show New Replies to your Posts" operation would be highly appreciated.

Try using the Google search, at the top right of every page. It's generally more accurate than the built-in forum search, and its addition is the reason for the abandonment of the built-in search, which has historically been unreliable and prone to breakage.

Hi,

I am having trouble with the CJ section. I have had some problems with the CJ page before, but I noticed a number of specific problems today when I was trying to check the CJ entry I wrote yesterday (for the CJ Corsania). I tried logging out and viewing the site, and there was no difference.

I have tested this with the following set ups:

Google Chrome V 5.0.342.8 (latest release) on XP Pro SP3

IE8 on XP Pro SP3

Google Chrome V 4.1.249.1042 on Vista Home Premium

IE8 on Vista Home Premium

IE and Chrome return slightly different problems, but were the same on both computers:

Chrome is missing the Recent CJ and Top Journaler section

These sections appear to have migrated to the end of the page.

In the next picture, my CJ should have be located after Schulmania, having been posted at Mar 27, 10.41 am, between Schulmania (Mar 27, 11.50 am) and You're Hired! (Mar 26, 7.10 am). However, it isn't there. Indeed, the fact that there are no journals for over a day makes me think that they have somehow disappeared. I also noticed that the dark grey bands between topics have disappeared, suggesting at a graphical bug.

Here is a zoomed out shot of IE. You can see that it not only removed the Recent CJ and Top Journaler section from the side, but stopped loading the page at Schulmania (again suggesting that this is the point where the bugs started).

Just a few other things. I don't really mind if IE doesn't work, as I use Chrome most of the time. I tried clearing the cache, which didn't change anything. My CJ still appears in the My Journals section, so I don't think it has been deleted. Nothing else on the site seems to have any problems.

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

I currently have an annoying white box running through the top of the Downloads section blocking a few downloads and all of the categories of organization. i does have a debug box to the right for teh webmaster, so I'm not sure if it's known, but it's getting annoying.

every time i try to look for stex in the search engine half the page is white anyone else with this problem and it was perfectly fine yesterday.

I filled in all the fields and I upload the photos as .jpg and the file itself as .zip, I agree the rules and proceed.

When the page is loaded, the file is still not on the STEX

I tried several times with firefox and also with opera, but still no file.

Who can help me?

Hi Andreas

I did as you said modifie the pictures and the filename, I retried to put the file on the stex, but still nothing has changed, the file is not in the stex.

The filenames had only lettres and some numbers, now I modified the names, so no numbers anymore

Can it be something with my account on simtropolis or maybe with my computer?

As a mather a fact, this part of the guide is not appearing at all, but I goes automaticaly back to the first page of STEX?

See The Bottom of this article for more information about creating informative descriptions of your files.

When you click "Proceed," you'll be greeted by this message. Don't worry about it as it's not really important.

This is also another page that you really don't need to worry about. It simply explains what is being done with your upload and to let you know when the file has been accepted by the server.

The jpg-files are 20,3 kb and 29,8 kb and the zipfile itself is 245 kb, so I don't believe the files are to big

There is information about how to post to the STEX in this guide.

The pictures are from the previous version of the STEX but the process is still the same.

make sure you fill in the descption and choose a jpeg and zip file, you also have to select a option for all the drop down boxes at the top. After youve done all thoose things you have to wait for the file to be uploaded to the server, this can take a while.

Something might have gone wrong with the upload. Try to change the filenames to lowercase only, with underscores instead of spaces, and leave out special characters. Also, resize the preview images to a width of 250 pixels, and save them as JPG file.

I'd suggest to send Dirk an e-mail, if there's a technical problem, he's probably the only one who can fix it (or maybe change the username of a file, if that' the only way to upload the files).
