SC4 is the best.

SCS isn't really SimCity, it is more an extension of the Sims.

The point of SC4 isn't simply to cover your region in skyscrapers, it's to build the city you want to build, and then keep that city running by balancing taxes, demands, Sim needs, Sim wants, and keeping down undesirable effects such as pollution and traffic.

And tell Aleking that you can't control what your city has in it; see what he says 2.gif.

Anyways...I'm going with SimCity 4.  As a true urban simulator, complete with the wonders and frustrations of a real-life city, there is no alternative (and with all the mods and add-ons that the community has provided, there probably won't be).

Where has it ever been proclaimed that the objective of SC4 is to cover your entire region in skyscrapers?

In my opinion, SC4 is superior to SCS.  The latter is a flawed game that doesn't deserve to carry the "SimCity" label.

SCS is the mess that occurs when you change developers and take Maxis away from what put it on the map, so to speak.

Well your trying to build a big city in the game (which eventually equals covering the entier region in skyscrapers) and I know sometimes your want to build a realistic city, or a small town or sometimes you just wanna kill as many sims as possible with a meteor shower. My point is that you can do what you want, but in my case, and I know I'm not the only one, I want to build a city that makes Tokeyo look tiny.

Fair enough.  I think I see your point.  If you're saying that SC4 is more of an open sandbox experience where you (i.e., the player) are free to build (and wipe out) cities at will according to your own design, I agree.  Further to your point, I think that the region is to the SC4 player as a canvass is to a painter.  I hope future versions keep the region play.  That's what I like about SC4 -- it's a broad experience.  One player may aim for realism while another may just want to build a massive metropolis populated only by skyscrapers and neither objective is right or wrong.

As for SCS, the jury is in: the game is a failure and it betrayed the true spirit of Simcity.

Today on youtube I saw a video made by a guy named jamie674. It had a region that had over 1 billion inhabitents6.gif! Let me see you do that in SCS.

1 billion= 1/65 people crowded into one big city

wow.

And BTW, SCS doesn't deserve to be published and is getting owned by SC4 still.

I'll go with SC4 as well. I think EA made a big mistake when they changed developers and I think they changed the concept of simcity just to compete with CL by Monte Cristo...and even CL are ways better than SCS...lol

On your first post, there should be a link next to "Reply | Quote | etc..." that will let you delete.

But hey, if you're willing to hear one more opinion. I think SimCity developers can keep the core of the game while making it more approachable for newcomers.

Make revamping transportation in an established city less difficult. Like a tool, or a preplanner or something.

Some more information about what's going on in a city could help a ton. Especially regarding zots, demand, and growth requirements.

The UDI missions didn't hurt the game IMHO. More things to do while you're mulling over what to do with your town can really help keep interest, especially as someone new to the series.

There has to be a million things like this they can do, all while adding to the depth of the game for those ready to explore it.

In every other forum I've seen that kills the thread. Sorry, sim-fan.

SC4 all the way!!  There is no comparison.  IMO SC4 is the best computer game ever made.  I will be playing it for a long time to come.

A very good point. If they want to make SimCity better, it needs to actually resemble the way most cities are... they don't immediately start building four-lane roads and six-lane highways because they think they might need them in the future. Real life cities, for the most part, evolve and things change over time.

Regarding the roads and such, they could introduce a concept of acquiring rights of way, as happens in real life, to allow players to widen roads and highways. There are so many other concepts they could do to model real life... obviously, there's a question of how much they can fit into the game... but while real-life cities have master plans put together, they aren't put together with the idea that the city will grow from a population of 1,000 to a population of 25,000 in X number of years. These master plans change as the city changes.

At any rate... SC should be about how your city evolves and making it less complicated to accommodate changes, rather than thinking ahead so far into the future. That doesn't mean make it like SCS, but make it where it is easier to make changes as the city grows.
