Hello, I am Ilikeseattle, also known as Ocram on most forums I am on. I was wondering if anyone likes SimTower (in addition to SimCity 4 of course). I like it so much that I am attempting to program an open-source SimTower clone. It is called OpenTower and the website (forums only) can be found here http://opentower.forumotion.com/forum.htm

Pointer and suggestions are appreciated (either in this thread or preferably by registering there).

EDIT: The link is to an older site. I put the link to the current site at the bottom of the thread and here.

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

I love SimTower. It was my my favorite game right until SC4 overtook it. To promote the game, I have made a website, complete with downloads (towers, cheat programs, misc), forums, and a comprehensive guide. Check it out:

SimTower and Yoot Tower were some of the best and most memorable games of my childhood! They were just so classic and simple, yet entirely replayable, I wish they still made little but complete games like this these days.

Shame my computer won't play it anymore, I love the 2D graphics!

Great game. Yoot tower was even better. I have SimTower in an Mac OS 9 emulator. I also have the Windows version of Yoot tower.

Interestingly I actually found a site once that hosted a whole tonne of Downloadable buildings for Yoot Tower. I believe it was in the wayback machine, but I managed to retrieve something like 30 buildings (cafes etc. all licensed names like Sony and stuff).

I couldn't get them to work though I don't think, something to do with the file names. I may have another look though.

I remember that game! A friend of mine introduced it to me because we were both SimCity fanatics. Back in middle school we installed it onto the computers at school, so in computer class while everyone was working on UltraKey, we would be playing SimTower. Great memories...

I loved SimTower!! Having all those people wait for the elevators especially at lunch. Well if you can find a 486 computer then you can play it.

I love SimTower. I tried to install it like a month ago and It works but I can't seem to get anybody to transfer from 1 set of elevators to the next. So I can't get a tower over 30 stories tall.

Malit Herring: You have to use Express elevators. They come when you reach a level three tower.

It was (and still is) a great game, but it is odd that the only way I could ever "win" was to build mainly offices and no condominiums. Rather annoying for my first 20 or so towers...

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

One of the most amusing games I have ever played. I love the random bomb threats and scenarios. The most stars I have ever gotten out of a tower was three. Still working on that sometimes. Great game, who cares about graphics anyways? =p

Oh man, SimTower was great. Stupidly, I was just up at my parents' house and found the disc while looking for something else, and I didn't take it back with me.

The project was not going anywhere so now there is a new project called HighriseDev aka High-Rise Developer. It has already made 2 demos and images can easily be swapped out as long as they have the same proportions and their heights are a multiple of 36px. I use 72px and usually that means the rooms themselves are 48px high and the space between floors is 24px high but I could make it 64 and 6. The outside stairs are actually 108 pixels high.

Here are some images made or modified by me put together in a cohesive manner so as to look like a screenshot. There are no transports because that small of an area does not need transports (they are supposed to be once every 5 condos.Advertising art of HighriseDev made by AzemOcramI added a fake GUI with SVG[

Yes... Sim Tower is a great game. I still play it sometimes, works fine on XP. The biggest thing I disliked about it was where all the condos would abandon after Christmas, plunging the tower into ridiculous debt.

Yeah, that's how it worked. Also, lowering rent on offices so that'd never leave.

I remember Sim Tower from WAY back. I think that it and Sim Farm were my favorite games of the Sim series. I do like SC4 for its expandability and complexity, but it's just not quite the same playing quality. Only Sim Tower wasn't quite as everlasting as Sim City. I still have it, but haven't opened it for three years or so.

I might try it again if new content comes.

I installed Virtual PC and have been running Windows 98 on top of 7 just for kicks, and got this game to install.

Simcopter also sorta works, it says its missing Glide.DLL(an archiac 3D gfx library AFAIK, not a computer expert), however the game seems to play fine somehow. I got my friend to give me his old disk, my original copy got broken when my cousin stepped on it, lol.
