Is theres anyway to prevent commenting at the upload and give thumbs, rating and such, im getting annoyed by some users that doesn't like my creations (by any circumstance), if this keeps like this  I may be leaving from uploading at STEX.

Is theres a way to block any comments, that would be perfect for me.

Thanks!

if this is about the constructive critism that cockatoo gave u on ur latest upload, thats all it is, constructive critisim. i would cherish it, and it will help me become a better BAT'er.

your skills are not lacking, as a matter of fact u have some of the better uploads here, so thats not my area to say anything. he was merley just trying to help u on making them better, not knowing u used GMAX, and i didnt know GMAX couldnt render shadows, so i learned something new today :-) see how that works lol.

Thanks I see your point and youre right about it. Somewhat I think i was a bit harsh cockatoo which I apologize for that.

As for criticism to be sincere I don't like to receive when I done with my upload (i know it helps for get me better but its different when you done something) I would like to receive criticism when Im working on a BAT so I can make changes without no problem. I may consider open a BAT thread here due that issue so I can know and receive any suggestions from people here at ST.

yea that would be a good idea to start your own thread, that way no critisim after u have uploaded ur creations.

like i said, ur skills are not lacking, but there is always room for improvment. taking comments from us as a community allows u to do that and realise "yes i can do better". perhaps even the thread u start can take requests or ideas u may not have thought of.

There is no reason to stop uploading to the STEX because of a few comments or ratings taken the wrong way. If you really have a problem with a comment, report it to one of the STEX moderators.. That is what they are there for.

If you start up your own thread for your creations, people can comment there and give you feedback on how to improve your work. They way you can avoid the nasty or uncertain comments all-together.

Comments on one's finished and uploaded BATs are usually useful in the sense that you will improve your performance the next time you will create a BAT. That surely cannot hurt and shoukld be welcomed instead of being annoying. Some comments can be considered harsh by the Uploader, but are not meant so by the Commenter, that is only the way we perceive things. If the commenter has experience with the BAT, then the harsh comment can be seen less harsh than someone who has no experience at all.

I am still the fourth top uploader on the STEX and have received all kinds of comments in the last five years and some of them I don't even care about and simply leave it like this, but most of them have made me what I am today in BATting and I am thankful.

Imagine no comments on your uploads.....how would you know that your work is appreciated or not? And how would you know if it is worth continuing your uploads, maybe most of us don't even care about them?

Heblem, in my eyes also, you are one of the better BATters on the STEX and your *stuff* is always worth a try ingame, even if I don't keep some of them. I don't always comment on uploads, but when I do, there is hope for improvement or you have really impressed me with your creation. I never rate, because rating is like judging and I don't judge anyone. Besides, a 10 is supposed to be perfection and when I see 10's all over the place from most Commenters, all I can do is grin and think about how easy it is to see perfection for most of us. To me there are only about 20 or so BATs on the STEX that really deserve a 10 (and none are from me)

There is always room to become a better BATter and you should consider this seriously without making threats to stop your uploads to the STEX. Accept the more constructive critisism, just ignore the lesser ones you don't like nor understand and report the ones you think are out of place and too flaming to a Moderator.

............we will be waitong for your next uploads...... 2.gif

Putting your fingers in your ears and closing your eyes isn't going to change what people think or say about your creations, it only prevents you from hearing it.

Also, on your most recent upload, I think Cockatoo's comment is actually a high quality comment.  He specifically says what is good and bad about the BAT, and what he said is true, and he's not saying it in a mean way.  If you look at your building, there are no shadows on it (it's easiest to see on the roof, where the roof junk is not casting any shadows on the roof).  And so the building looks "off".  At the same time he complimented the modeling and the lot, and he was accurate there as well.

Even if you blocked comments, most of the people would notice the lighting problem (or at least that it looks funny because of the lighting problem) once they started using it in the game.

What if he had never commented about the lighting rig problem, and you never found out about it, and you kept on rendering things without shadows?

And sometimes the commenters just don't know what they're taking about, for better or worse.  I'm a BATer, and I know a lot of about BATing (I can look at something and understand how technically good or bad it is), and I'm also an architecture student and I know a lot about architecture, so I know if something is architecturally correct or not as well (not that I think anything needs to be 100% accurate), and I see comments where people rate lower because they think there should be a parking lot, even though that building type would never have been designed with a parking lot.  Sometimes someone who doesn't understand the rating system (we all know that anything lower than an 8 is offensive, but some new people don't, so they give it, say, a 7, because a 7=10%=C=Average, or something like that).  These kinds of comments are incorrect, and they're unfair, but that's just the way things are.  For example, I uploaded some department stores last month, and one of them originally had a 90% rating, which is obviously a lot lower than it should have been.  But I'm not going to stop uploading because of it.  I don't need other people to tell me it's good, I know it is, and most of the community knows too.  Some random commenter giving a 7 instead of a 10 isn't going to change that.

I think that starting a BAT thread would be great.  You can look at the BAT threads and see how much people improve.  You can look at the comments in the BAT - Open Discussion and you can decide if you want people to look so critically at your BATs.  But people will make comments like Cockatoo's.  There won't be a rating to go with it, but the comment would be the same.

That surely must be a joke? Anything below "excellent work" is offensive? Well, the ten-star system is flawed anyway, but there just aren't that many "perfect in every way" files out there as we may seem to believe.

Im very consternate by Glenni upload and cockatoo comment, how could he gives 10 perfect in a offensive BAT, also that BAT has some issues in the textures, looks way to dark and sad... theres no fair rating either...

    rcomeoi1.jpg

Jason I agree with you, his comment is fine but it seems like for certain proposes (by any kind of likes) if you dont like latin america architecture theres no way to thumb it down because its brighten, or even Glenni (i can say the same) i dont like his bats, but i rather not to comment either give a constructive cristism because I respect him and his likes.

Yea, if you want to prevent commenting:

    1. on the upper right corner of the upload form, there is a red X. Click it.

Quite simply, if you dont want comments, dont upload. We are entitled to our opinion and our job is not to help the uploader feel good, its to help the uploader BAT good. You my sir are a good batter, but you still have work to do as well, like 95% of us batters, so just because someone gives you great criticism, doesn't mean you should get angry and leave.

BTW, I find your criticism of Glennis BAT way too unfair. Glennard the Viking is one of the best BATters in this community and that BAT upload was a flawless production on glennis part, with good textures, lighting, modeling, and design.

How the hell is that fair? What can i do about that you can have a road through it? It's how it works with diagonals in sc4. There is no other way! And then he says it needs to be 4 or 6 blocks. WHO IS THE VREATOR HERE, ME OR HIM? I make whatever i want for pete's sake.

Heblem: Do you have any idea at all, how much work i put into that BAT? Every single ad texture was made by me. The lighting took ages to make. And it was hell trying to make it fit into the space i designed it for!

krbe:  Yeah, the system is flawed, but it is what it is.  Ask any uploader if they'd feel good about getting a 70% ("Great Work!").  Or what if something isn't too bad but could have used more time?  30%?  40%?  And of course just because someone rates a 10, or an uploader gets, say, a 98%, neither of them see that and think the upload is "Perfect in Every Way."

Heblem:  I agree with you that the comments can be unfair, especially for Latin American architecture or other mis understood architecture, and sometimes it can be unfair because a commenter might rate his friends higher, but I don't think you should be upset by it, it happens to everyone, and in the end you know what the accurate comments and ratings are.  It's better to think that thousands of people have downloaded and enjoyed your creations than to think about the handful of people who gave unfair ratings.

Patriots:  You can't say that everyone is entitled to their opinion on one hand, and then tell him that his opinion is unfair.  I think Glenni's BATs are too dark too, and that his textures have too much green in them.  We talked about it in his thread before and he disagrees.  But I'm not going to go through all of his uploads and give them 9s or something because I think he did something "wrong" even if I'm entitled to do so.

Patriots, I like uploading my stuff and even see it on people's CJ/MD, but what I do want is respect to people creations, if you don't like it simply don't comment or if do you want to give a constructive criticism it would be the best to PM the author about that, but not to thumb down his creation (its not a problem for me, but something is disliking when it happens, i meant the time it took to you in doing the bat/modeling, textures, uploading, read me, image, modding etc in change to receive a poor applaud its something frustrating). I see and I understand your perfective to Glenni bats but in my case its different, if you find unfair my criticism to Glenni bats its ok but respect me (everybody has different points of view)

Glenni, I understand the time it took to you in do that BAT, even the textures (and the time it took to you doing these fictional brands textures and the news bar...) your bats are great (excellent modeling!), some of them I like and some other don't... but for my personal likes of the textures of most of your BATs (no offend to you) are way too dark and sad (maybe those would be great if you make the textures a bit brighten and more modern like. May I suggest to you, when you do a building try to express something that you like and people like to see from you. I rather not to give to you a thumb down about that in your upload, i rather to keep quiet and simply not comment, but if you want my honest opinion then here is, I think I have told you about that sometime in Devotion forums.

    Edited to delete repetitive comments::

Yes, and cheating on your exams feels good, too. Why care about it at all, when mediocre work frequently get top marks? If it could use more work, it should get lower marks.

The textures are modern, they are bright, and i do not intend to make them look any brighter. i think they are just fine as they are.   And half of the problem here is the BAt anyway. it just cannot do curved buildings. It always mucks up the shading when rendering.

It's also a bit of a different in what is bright, and what is not here. For me this is bright enough. If it was brighter it would look out of place in a northern setting. like how i intend my BATs to work for. They are more for the environments here, darker, because there's a hell of a lot more rain, and less sun here.

Dark and grimy is the style of my batting, it has always been, and will always be. Even if it is $$$ i never make anything look too fancy or too clean, because that's just not how it is in real life!

Heblem, my problem was not that you dislike Glennis BATs, but the way you expressed that.

Its one thing to say "I like his style" or "I don't like his style", its another to say "its bad because its sad". Thats just out of left field and has nothing to do with the quality.

Glenni thats what I just looking to hear from you and I do completely understand you, due I dont know your country (as you say is cold and rainy most of the time) you intend to set your buildings into that environment which I do understand and makes me clear, to see your creations in a different point. No just because i use to see buildings brighten because here were I live most of the time I see it.

The same I said about my creations im trying to set a different environment (somewhat opposite to yours) but In fact in RL (in my point of view) there are some buildigns as you see "clean" like that.

Un1: deleting a comment its a fault of respect, I would do that but I rather to leave it because I have respect and tolerance to the person that is commenting.

Patriots, please forgive me if Ive said it in a irrespectful way that offended, as you know English is not my native language so I can't express correctly what i want to say (I have a different learning and understanding of English) About my comment, that was my only concern and point of view about Glenni BATs, nothing more...

The numbers themselves have no meaning, 10 is just a number, 5 is just a number.  Any value could be assigned to those numbers (just like in card games, a lot of the times aces (ace=1) is the most valuable.  Or sometimes low cards of one suite are worth more than higher cards of different suites.  The numbers are just symbols to which we assign value).  How much is the dollar worth?  The dollar is worth however much people at large agree it is worth.  If you go to the vending machine and it wants to sell you a beverage for $23, you say "I think $23 is worth a lot more than that beverage" you don't buy it, and in order to stay in business the company lowers the price until the consumers believe that number of dollars is worth that object, which is probably around $1.25.  In Japan it might cost 125 Yen, but the value isn't any different (it isn't 100 times more valuable), just the number of currency which it is valued at is different.  That is to say that the number itself is arbitrary, what is important is that everyone agrees that number correlates to a certain value.

On the STEX, the community at large has decided that Good Work is ~8, Great Work is ~9, and Awesome Work is ~10 (or something like that, the point is that 7 is not Great Work).  You can tell this is the case by reading the comments and looking at the ratings (the only people who don't follow this system are newbies who are unaware of it, and people trying to "fix" it, like you).

The difference between the STEX, and the dollar though, is that with the dollar, the seller sets the value, and the consumers take it or leave it, and the seller adjusts.  If the STEX were set up like this, the uploader would choose what rating he/she think it should be, and only people who agree with that rating get to download.  But the STEX is not like that, in this case, the consumer sets the value (downloaders rating), and the seller takes it or leaves it (theoretically if the ratings were consistently low, the seller would be less inclined to continue BATing).

So imagine a fruit market where the buyer sets the price.  Then lets say that everyone agrees that an apple sells for $0.50, and most people pay about that much for the apples.  Then you come in and only pay $0.01 for the apple, because the rusty sign by the parking lot that was put up a few years ago says that's how much the apples are worth.  But that's not how much the apples are worth.  When you only spend $0.01 on the apple the apple vendor is going to be upset, and the other customers are going to think you're being a jerk.  The same thing goes if the sign says the apple is worth $20, and you pay that much.  The apple vendor might not mind much, but the other customers are still going to think you're a jerk.  You can pay $0.40 because you don't think the apple looks as good as it should, and you can pay $0.60 if you think the apples are high quality, but you have to pay within the system that everyone has agreed on.

Heblem, this thread way obviously started about my comment on your latest upload. I'm a BATter as well, I know how much work goes into creating a BAT.

So let me ask you this, how do people learn? Constructive criticism, yes? I've had my fair share of it too, but I always try and take it on board for what it is "constructive".

The sole purpose of my comment was to help you improve, to solve an issue.

I'm saddened that you took this the wrong way, but no matter how you look at things, you can't get up in arms just over one comment that you perceive to be a 'bad one'. I pointed out what I saw as the good and the bad, and nothing more. I wasn't flaming, but sadly, it seems that you've taken it that way. Note that I still gave you a thumbs up, because I still saw a quality BAT.

*Reading down the progress of this thread*

You have another issue with me, this time it concerns a comment I made on one of Glenni's BAT's. You obviously don't like this BAT (which is your opinion, and that's fine), and you feel that I've rated it un-fairly when compared to yours.

My opinion is my opinion Heblem. I rated Glenni's work higher because I saw a well made BAT, that yes, some would find offensive and dark, but I liked it because it had character. Note that the 'That looks like crap' part was a joke relating to the BAT.

I rated your work lower because I saw some issues that needed to be corrected *and for the record, I use Gmax too, trust me when I say that it dose render shadows.*

Bringing this into this situation was totally un-necessary, I think the others have expressed how rude this was, so I don't need to go into that.

I respect both you and Glenni equally, and I don't have a bias against Latin American architecture as some have indirectly suggested.

My opinions are founded, even if you don't see them is being fair, and you can't criticise someone for having an opinion that is different to yours... how do you think wars are started?

To everyone else, I'm sorry that my comments on these two uploads have caused so much controversy. Can we please just leave the conversation now, Heblem and I have both expressed out opinions and I really don't want this to snowball anymore.

If we are to drag the market metaphor over to the STEX, you have a different market on each file, always the same amount of money to spend (10), which does not have to be prioritised in any way. Thus, there are no incentive to give the actual value for any given file; you can only spend your money on one item on one transaction, because even though the markets are linked together by customers and vendors, they start with a totally clean sheet next time the vendor brings something to the market. This means you're left with a market failure, which has resulted in significant "inflation" of the currency towards the middle (values). There is simply no way of distinguishing between the truly good and the truly bad, because the market has agreed than any adequate item should get either 8, 9, or 10. Rectifying this is futile because the market has already failed, and there is no authority backing the currency in question.quote>

ok, so my metaphor wasn't very thorough, lol, but I do think the paragraph above is more or less what happened, except I think that the value scale has been compressed into the upper half of the rating scale, not totally lost.  There's quite a difference between 8 and 9.  And I think what Patriots said is true for most people, but I think it's worth noting that the 1 and 3 are reserved for spam and improper uploads.  I don't think anyone has ever rated anything a 5 and I don't think anyone knows exactly what a 5 would be.

If you guys dont like our style please ignore it, even dont ever come to look at our bats nor touch or comment about it, i'll delete some nasty comments in my uploads and I give up forever uploading at STEX, thank you!

Do you know why many people left from STEX from uploading? because people rates unfair, and thumb down people with their ratings, also theres no support to the author when requesting something here at ST, I just give up and im gonna lock all my content shortly.

Another thing you could maybe do is send a personal message to the user you may have a problem with. That way, things like this don't turn up, and feelings are not hurt, friendships are not lost (although I am not sure thats the case here) and people don't get discouraged and stop making custom content. (Or stop sharing it)..

Try not to let other people get inside your head. I am almost certain you have never met any of these people in real life, don't know them, and therefore don't know exactly who they are. Anything they say should mean nothing to you. You take it how you want, but do so carefully and try to understand what some of them are trying to say, instead of misunderstanding, and posting a dispute like this.

People rating unfairly is something that just happens. Honestly, I don't think the rating should tell you how good/bad a piece of work is. Look at the download/view ratio, that is your best 'rating'.

I hope you can get past all this, heblem, and the rest of LBT. I enjoy your work, and so do many others. Good luck with the rest of your development, and congrats on your recent uploads, they are all great.

Do you know why many people left from STEX from uploading? because people rates unfair, and thumb down people with their ratings, also theres no support to the author when requesting something here at ST, I just give up and im gonna lock all my content shortly.quote>

Uhm, I believe there is a misunderstanding there. In this instance, invasion is being used as a good descriptor. Also, while Mr. B has been hard on some of your past models, his comments there seemed pretty positive; after all, he hopes you guys made some industrial stuff as well.

Though, another you might want to think of is what most of these negative comments seem to be about. I mean, perhaps there is a problem that should be looked at when many people keep bringing up the same issue?
