SimCity 4 Deluxe Update Issue

When I try to Update my SimCity installation with the update from simcity.com, it says "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

It does this with SimCity_1.dat and SimCity_2.dat, but updates the rest.

Why wont it update the first two. My copy of the game is legall, and I haven't tampered with any of the files. I can't install the BAT Update without this Update, and that means no nightlights for my custom buildings.

I know other people have this issue as well but haven't gotten a straight answer, so could someone please PLEASE, inlighten me... 4.gif

If it was on the official site, I guess it was an automatic installer? Did you try the manual installation?

You may try to download and install the files manually from SC4Devotion.com. (click the EA link...)

DL the update depending on territories, eg America, Europe etc. Filesize 15 mb.

Locate and run the file. No need to update it into the Sim City folder to work. 2.gif

If everything work, it should now be updated to version 1.1.638.0

Good luck!

You also have to pick the right upgrade for the language /regional version you purchased.. And if you changed ANYTHING on the installed version.. even the tiniest little detail.. it won't upgrade.. it must be the identical version .dat that is on the install CD. In my case I had put the "single processor affinity" change in.. I had to copy the dat from the cd, upgrade, THEN put the affinity mod on.

I think My version is the US version, but I live in New Zealand, so I'm not sure, how can you tell?

I just bought the new copy recently, would that have anything to do with the problem

And even though it's a new copy, it still needs upgrading (which is stupid because it should be the latest version.)

And I have reinstalled it twice, and then tried to update it but it still won't work... even with the manual installation

US and New Zealand both requires the same update, sku 1. So that shouldnt matter anyway, maybe try another of the updates, euro or something and see if it works?

I've just gone onto simcity.com and started the automatic update process. It says: "Update 1.1.638.0 EUR (17671010 bytes)"

Does this mean My copy is the European version? but I live in NEW ZEALND!

    I'm quite confused...

    Good on ya!

Im not sure if "EUR" means that it is the european update, but I think they sell the european version over here (plus or minus a few languages...). Thats why the cars drive on the right hand side instead of the, normal, left hand side.

I Finally manged to do it. It turns out I have the European version, and I was trying to install the SKU1 update.

But I thought it was the right one, obviously not.

So it turns out that "EUR" does mean European lol

I feel a bit stupid now lol

Meanwhile... If anyone else has this problem, I suggest they use the automatic update at simcity.com to atleast find out which country there version is then proceed to update, weather it be manually or automatically (I tried auto, but it got to 99% then my browser froze, so manual would be best).

    Sim City_1 .dat = 137 MB (144,547,650 bytes)

    SimCity_2.dat = 161 MB (169,268,568 bytes)

Step 2) Locate and run the update file. You do not have to have the update file in your SimCity directory in order for the update to function.

Step 3) After installing EP1 Update 1, the following files should be checked to see it they have been updated properly. The timestamps on these files will be updated when the update runs. All other files should not change:

    SKU 1, 3, 4 & 5 updated files:

. SimCity 4.exe should be updated to version 1.1.638.0. File size should be 8,407,514 (Deluxe) or 8,407,542 (Rush Hour) NO! SimCity 4 Version 1.1613.0 8.01 MB (8,407,511 bytes) (4 bytes missing not much but could mean everything including immortal lots and slider problems!)

. Graphics Rules.sgr should be updated to 20,171 bytes CORRECT

    .

    SimCity 1.dat should be updated to 144,596,245 bytes { WRONG!} Sim City_1 .dat = 137 MB (144,547,650 bytes)

    .

    SimCity 2.dat should be updated to 168,588,181 bytes SimCity_2.dat = 161 MB (169,268,568 bytes)

    .

. SimCity 3.dat should be updated to 115,117,583 bytes CORRECT

. SimCity 4.dat should be updated to 125,624,858 bytes CORRECT

SC4 boy I have changed the shortcut to affinity 1 processor but surely a shortcut wont interfere with the actual default original target that its pointing to. It works the other way round. If you change your target the shortcut no longer works so I really hope i dont have to reinstall the whole thing or if i do maybe i can just manually insert int into the folder without it sumchecking first? I'm in Australia but geez i may have a European version now ... who would have thought I was in the wrong country to install it.

You also have to pick the right upgrade for the language /regional version you purchased.. So you installed the update and the trees on the lots disappeared? Are other details missing, like cars, bushes, parking lots, etc.? If so, its the games detail set to low. When I updated mine, the same thing happened; I thought the update deleated stuff, however it was only the settings were modified. Go to the settings on the region menu, and change the detail to high, or medium at least. If thats not it, I'm not sure what's wrong...

Plus, the nightlightning does not work... I did the automatic thing from the website where it downloads it and installs it for you, then I tried manually.... but they dont change... HELP??

EA and the impossible to Fix Simcity Deluxe

Hello, I am trying to fix the Simcity Deluxe version I got, with the patches from EA website.

The game version is english language, downloaded in europe from a french game-site.

The computer is a japanese laptop with japanese language but until now it had no problem of compatibility with english language software.

The game run fine without fixes, but on this forum I read it is better to use them.

Trying to apply the fixes it gives an errore message about incompatible patch like the first post! (the patch I am trying to install is for europe region).

Is the problem about the region? which region should be ?

    PS

Now I have NAM and 20 or so other plugins but that should not influence the fix.
