Introduction

Welcome to my newest city, Palmetto Shores. You may not know me since I am pretty new here, but I have been playing Sim City 4 for fun for a while now. I usually don't get into the city building mood (I am usually destroying, not creating), but, I feel the need to build myself a city I can be proud of. The name Palmetto Shores is derived from Palm Shores, Florida. I just like it 3.gif.

I am totally new to the Sim City 4 modding scene. I have retrieved some mods using the help of the Live Chat members, and I have already started on my first real city. I plan to build the transportation infrastructure from the ground up, but let the game build the buildings for me. I dunno, I just think plopping a city of buildings is plain boring. This thread is not just to show off my progress, but to take in as much criticism as possible. I would love to hear feedback on what I have done, and what I shouldn't have done.

My Sim City 4 has all vanilla buildings, but I have the NAM and a few other transportation mods. Please, if you have any suggestions on what mods I should get, I am listening.

Without further hesitation, I give you Palmetto Shores.

Welcome! You may want to hit the enter key after each pic so it doesn't get so wide on the screen. I look forward to more of your work.

Wow, I see a lot of potential for this CJ.  Nice work on your into smoot, looks like Palmetto Shores is going to be a good one to watch.

A few pointers:  (hey, you wanted constructive criticism 3.gif)

    1.  Use the gradual transition between ground and elevated highway included in the NAM.  Try and make the slope to the sunken part less steep too.

    2.  Try and put a space between your pictures; it makes it easier to view.  (you can easily do that now by editing this post)

    3.  I see you are using roads to loop around a one tile station.  If you switch to a one-way road it will turn into a roundabout, making it look much better,

    4.  In your second picture you have a avenue intersection with missing turn lanes.  click on it with the ave icon to redraw it.

    5.  Turn off the UDI icons.  You can do this by pressing the last icon in the UDI menu.  (below ships I think)

    6.  Turn off the grid.  Press G next time you're in-game.

    7.  Get a slope mod.  It will make your slops way more realistic

    8.  Get as much custom content as you can.  You've proven you can do a lot without, but imagine what you can do with a bunch of custom content!

I hope those comments help you!  Looking forward to more...

    Best,

    -Haljackey

    1. Will do

    2. Done

    3. Alright I'll try that

    5. Okay

    7. I'll look for one

    8. I wanted to get started before I did anything with custom buildings

Thank you for the tips. I welcome this with open arms.

Haljackey I know you said only to post when I update, but I would really like to interact with people.

Anyways.  I hope to get more/better screens up after I fix some abandonment issues in my residential ares.

    Edit: New screens!

dunno if its just my computer or not but your pictures load slow which means there png and not jpg or jpeg, and what u gotta do is go on paint and load the picture you want and save as jpeg, jpg etc.

not saying its bad or anything but just so you know most people only say that its good and its not necessarily good,

also as you've noticed your buildings houses etc don't have overlay textures and trees etc so you gotta go to options, in the panel where u take pictures and look for city detail and put it on high. but now for my comments,

you have some sort of custom content which is good, your first picture looks good, the rest, not so much

just your city layout and stuff isn't all that good, and yea even though you have some custom content its still too repetitive. but keep up the work.

I know it may not be a pretty city (it's no GTR), but I have all green city opinion polls except in the environmental department. I'd say I am doing pretty good.

Really good start for your CJ, smoot... I'll be checking this CJ for more, and I could possibly help you with how you do your cities too! 9.gif

sounds exotic, but if you look at the pics, they look nothing like it sounds. Oh! and why is it that there's no water, when it's called Palmetto "Shores"?

PS. I like how the roads are very neat.

QUINTUPLE POSTER!!! I think that's a new world record for clicking the post button! 6.gif

And just a hint, you should City Detail set to high before you take pictures. It makes a BIG difference.

A sad ending to my city came when I moved from Florida to New Jersey.

All of my stuff was stolen out of my U-Haul in New York at a Hotel, so I must sadly report Palmetto Shores is no more. I don't think I will be playing Sim City 4 anymore.

    Farewell, Palmetto Shores.
