You can do the same thing on iTunes to find an artist or whatnot that you can on the Zune Player (randomly start typing in the name and have it jump there), but the Zune does handle that feature much better by bringing up a bar so you know what your typing.  Also, you can choose whether to have your music fade in/out or not, (and for how long).

I suppose iTunes spoiled me.  There are so many options with playlists, stats, and organizing music that you just can't find on the Zune Player.  Also, I hate how the Zune Player is really stingy with how I name my music; sometimes it doesn't change at all, sometimes when I change it in one area of the player, it isn't changed in the other...it's maddening!  Lack of Last.fm support is annoying, as well (Zune Social is all right, but I'd prefer Last.fm).

In my opinion, it's the great equalizer: Zune > equivalent iPod; Zune Media Player < iTunes.

Nevermind on that fade out thing then. I had no idea it was optional. However, I still don't like the massive list of songs that iTunes displays. I don't know if there is a feature to allow it to organize it by artist like Zune does. If it does then I have no actual gripes against iTunes.

Well, I don't know how Zune does it, but there are many ways to sort music in iTunes, one of them being by artist.

Yes, I like and use iTunes. I have an iPod. I use it every day and I love it. No, I'm not a fanboy.

You know you only encourage me by making comments like that, right? 21.gif

I can't claim to really know much about iTunes since I refuse to touch it with a 39½ foot pole.

However, from what I've seen of other people using it there are a couple things which come to mind about it.

It has that thing where it displays the album covers up top in a sort of roll-o-dex kind of manner. I can see where some people might find that nifty but personally I think it's annoying. It just looks ridiculous. For that matter, the whole interface is ugly.

I get that there are a ton of different ways iTunes will let you organize your music, but really, I see that as pointless. In Windows Media, you can create your own custom playlists, and you can organize it by Artist (and within the artist it'll seoerate things out into different albums. Really, all I'd ever want is taken care of right there. The other methods (and there are a few others) are extraneous.

I either have things nice and organized in a simple manner, like this:

wmpartistvg8.png

Or I make playlists, like this:

(links go to fullsize images)

Simple and straighforward. No unnecessary complication. And no automated "I'm going to organize this my way for you whether you want me to or not" crap which certain programs *cough*Photoshop*cough* are notorious for.

As I said, I haven't and I refuse to. It's an Apple product and therefore is hellspawn so far as I'm concerned.

You can create that exact playlist in iTunes as well.quote>

So what? That's hardly any justification for me to switch. Tell me something iTunes can do that Windows Media Player can't and that I might actually find useful.

The point is not to get you to switch to iTunes, but to show you that iTunes can do things the same way as Windows Media Player.

I got a 120gb Zune for my b-day, love it, 9.gif, although I hate how the Zune marketplace runs on that point system, and I cant seem to find some songs I really want =/

You have a Zune?  Do you also have a [Zune Social] profile?  If not, you should create one...and if you do, then you can become friends with me if you'd like ([my profile]).  You'd be in good company if you do: the only other friends I have on there are  ___idiotbox and eastwinn 3.gif.

I have the Ipod Touch. I think it is the most advanced MP3 player even though it lacks FM radio and other things. But the Internet and the APPs make it a worthy MP3 player.

BTW: Why is there an option for Macs, Mac running Windows, and Linux but no Windows itself? As far as Im concerned Windows is a mp3 player as well.

I've had an iPhone since March and I really like it. It has all-in-one and it's easy to use, with great battery life. With Pandora Radio APP, you can listen to all your favorite bands, and it looks for bands that sound similar for some discovers, one of the best things ever made apart from hulu.

Lol . I listen to radio a lot when I`m working, cause I dont want to bring my ipod, and I found a couple of stations that is non-commercial, but these guys really love their music and have a lot of knowledge on what they are doing, compared to those low-life dj`s thats common in most of the commercial radiostations around here. Just like TV, there are a lot of s%¤# but also some quality in between. And another good (or bad?) part about radio, you never know whats coming...  2.gif

I do use and love my iPod Touch for several reasons.  But as stated in this thread (greatest members of all time thread if you're having problems with the link), I'm not particularly biased.  I don't hate Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony etc. and refuse to buy their products because of some "horizontal monopoly" or the fact that they want money.

Because honestly, in the grand scheme of things, ever friggin corporation in the world wants to patent their products and/or earn floods of cash.

As to why I chose iPod Touch?  Sure it's expensive, but so far I don't regret one cent of the money I spent on it, because now I can carry all  of my videos, music etc. around, not just less than 1/4 of my songs (2057 and growing) and that's it, as I had to with my old ipod nano.  And the many other interesting things it does aren't half bad neither. 3.gif

VLC player. I did use JetAudio a while ago, it's pretty good as well 4.gif I really like the simplicity of VLC while all the major features are there, making playlists and whatnot.

I don't have an mp3 player atm :/

I have a 2 GB Creative Zen. Gadling.com also voted it their best MP3 player. I've been getting in to my dad's turntable, though.

I still have my turntable and Cassette decks, but rolling with the times, MediaPlayer is still my choice. Tried Itunes, but it disables WMP and I can't seem to make them both work at once easily and when needed.

Download high quality MP3's of Shaolin Temple Of Boom's new debut EP! The whole thing is FREE! David told me that you can burn it to CD and pass it around to your hearts content.

As a matter of fact, I do!  4.gif  I use an Onkyo receiver with Bose speakers.  Connected to it are PS1, PS2, GameCube, Super NIntendo, Nintendo, Yamaha 5-disc CD changer, Pioneer laserdisc player, Sony DVD player, Toshiba VCR, and an 2nd gen iPod Nano

Um, I think that's everything.  A PS3 is set to join the lineup next week.  9.gif  No turntable or cassette deck.  I didn't actually start purchasing music until CD's picked up steam.

Ah, now here's the kicker.  All this is connected to a 22" TV!  3.gif  I don't like big TV's.  And yes, I know I'm funny that way.

The iPod spends most of its time in my briefcase for the subway ride to work and whatnot.  I only use it with the component system once in awhile.  But it's nice to know it's there when I need it. 4.gif

Until recently, I used a 1974 Sylvania receiver with this system.  Man oh man does that thing produce great sound!  However, it's huge, weighs a ton, and it just doesn't really work with today's technology too well.  Except for CD's.  There's something about a CRT receiver that makes music sound really good.  Pity it doesn't do better than 4 channel discreet.  15.gif
