I think the graphics look amazing in that post... I've seen worse before. As for the lots, I don't mind that they are square, as long as they can be placed along streets at any angle... but I don't know if that's gonna be possible. Let's hope so!

I hope that it will be an option, but not a restriction, like the 90/45/no constraint degree roads.

Hi, everyone. I have spent four days on citiesxl.com forums and learned a lot of true, how that game will be. A lot of new, innovative ideas that make the game better than SC4.

And one thing will be a step back from SC4. Square lot...I could live with that. Basic measurement unit in SC4 is 16x16 meters. In Cities XL it is 40x40 meters !! And every structure in the game will be that size - regardless Empire State Building or a small suburbian house !! It is clearly said here

You know, Square lots are alright with me.

Square lots keep game-play fairly simplistic, and we can all see how complicated it can get when working with diagonal buildings in SC4. Another thing to consider is if Monte Cristo will have square lots as a basic resource, and we can tweak any lot if we want to by cutting off corners, shaving patios with roads, or destroying backyards with superhighways. Remember people, its not all about how great the game looks or how ridiculously realistic it is. Its got to be a reasonably enjoyable game experience. SC4 has excelled in making a game that is fun to play. I hope that CitiesXL has that same replay value.

If this happens to be the case I won't be a happy camper...

Square lots are OK provided there is reasonable ability to customise the gaps in between lots so we can match pavements/lawns, add railings and filler features (benches, chairs, piles of crates etc, so that they blend in with the adjacent lots.

Basically, this kills the game to me, and explains why screenshots look so unrealistic. Sorry, MC - you blew it.

They've said time and time again that we have non-square lots. The example posted was the creation of a model based on a user-submitted photograph. The shots were probably just nice renders, and it's entirely possible(and probable) that that building can be placed in any lot when it is added to the game proper.

Phillipe just stated over at CitiesXL that the 40X40 is NOT the only size for lots. (don't know if that also means theirs only squares or not though)

Square lots? Who cares. It's not whether the lot is square or not it's about whether it can be oritented in any direction to work with the streets and whether there can be "filler" (grass, plazas, trees, ponds) that can be painted on to cover any gaps. Squares are easy to deal with, any shape at all is tough. Asking for complete free form isn't realistic and is asking way to much of our computers and the game designers. Get over it.

The problem is that they in this article states that all buildings in the game are assigned a 40x40 meters lot. Philippe did however said that "40*40 are not the only lot size.". That does however not say anything about if 40x40 are the smallest possible lot size or not.
