  1. Since when did city Mayors manage the trade of commodities?
  2. Terraforming: Terraforming isn't just about making the game easier or less realistic. It is also about the freedom to craft a region as you choose and that is unique rather than being tied to the same 5 designs that every other person in the world is. When I am terraforming the last thing I think of is where roads are going. Regions: Umm did you read the linked article? Directly from the first sentence of the answer " Although there is a lot going on in the region between cities, you will not be able to expand outside of your city boundaries." The Cloud: I am not against the cloud or multiplayer in general, I was actually hoping myself and my son could share a region. However EA seems to have a habit of turning off game servers when they feel the game has outlived it's life span. If SC4 was tied to an EA server it would have been unplayable for the last 5 years knowing EA. Graphics: I personally like the graphics. @William Gates It is hard to say, one thing I hate doing is replying to something and rehashing what the last 10 replies have said.
  3. Concept: Public Safety

From what I could tell about fire response from the snippets of the Glassbox demo, this is exactly how Fire response works, so hopefully Police response will be the same. On your other points, I agree whole-heartedly. My idea is simply a groundwork and a basic idea. From this system I could see a SimCop spin-off title or something similar. Just regarding police response times one thing to keep in mind is that the police do not sit at the department waiting for crime to occur (like fire fighters do), generally you have officers on patrol in different areas/zones. Therefore that officer responding to the crime at the farm would likely be much closer to the farm than the actual police station. I personally believe at least as far as the police go (the same principal does not apply to the fire dept) that the coverage should be a function of the number of officers employed not the number of police buildings. Of course there could still be benefits to placing police substations. While I will not happen I think the whole police design needs to be reworked to be more realistic. You can have a city of 100,000 people that covers many square miles and still only have 1 police station.
  4. So I have read some of the discussions on the Environment but one thing I am concerned with is natural resource management. One wish I have always had with SC is that I think it would be really cool to have privately run hospitals and power plants. Here in Florida there are very few municipal power plants in most places here in South Florida FPL is the local power company also while we have hospital taxing districts that pay the local hospitals for indigent care we have no county or city owned hospitals. Therefore I have always hoped in the next version it would be possible to have privately owned hospitals or power plants. Now back to my natural resource concerns.. While I think it would be great to be able to zone a section of land Industrial-Natural and have coal mines or oil wells spring up, it is not something I as mayor want to have to plop. Also while the price of coal should affect the cost of power provided by the local coal plant or oil should affect the price of gas in my city and therefore high prices would have a negative economic impact, the mayor of a city has very little control over these. At least here in the US local governments really have very little control (aside from zoning) over the companies who extract oil, coal, etc. it is the state governments and feds who have the most control and influence. I also don't want to have to worry about gathering or trading food and resources, this is SimCity not Civilization or Settlers. Local governments don't engage in resource trading. I am keeping an open mind about this and like what I see otherwise, hopefully I am simply misunderstanding how the whole natural resource thing will work. Or there will be a way to avoid dealing with it if it work the way it sounds to me like it will.
  5. Fox News Talks About Simcity Societies

I really dislike SCS but after watching that I really want to knock those guys out for being idiots.
  6. ...It's time to make Sim City 5, Maxis.

@ jdenm8 With that kind of thinking it will never be made. What we expect always advances, it's like waiting for Intel to release a faster processor they will release it and will have a faster one in the works so you rinse and repeat. --- I wish EA would release a new SC, however they like many others seem to have lost focus on what made great companies in the past and I fear they feel that if it will just break even it isn't worth their time.
  7. E3 doesn't think Stupid Fun Club is entertainment

Lol, I agree with E3. As much as respect Will Wright for some of his past work, at this point he appears to be a "has been". Sadly we seem to not have any "great" game designers anymore.
  8. Activation problems

I think whether is applies to this particular case or not it poses a bigger question for the future as this will happen where a company goes out of business and retailers still have product on the shelf.
  9. I'll take the Rolls sine one doesn't know whats happening with the Toyota.
  10. Activation problems

My personal feeling would be that at this point since there is no way you will ever receive actual product support would be to go for a refund and then if and when 2011 comes out get it if you so choose. Slightly off topic but does anyone know if the activation servers are still functional with MC being in bankruptcy? 11. Activation problems

If I may ask where did you purchase it? I ask because at this point if I were you I would return it.
  12. Christmas Patch Crashed My Computer OS!

While I do not own it and am not a fan of it I highly doubt a CXL update would affect any drivers, unless they are using something like safedisc and updated it. For information sake what exactly is the message and does it name a driver?
  13. System Requirements

What type of video card to you have?
  14. My thoughts on Cities XL

@ 8elhaj You are paying $40 for the product. But what if PO goes under and MC shuts their servers off in a year, will you still be able to play single player, remember you have to login there is no seperate launcher unless they release one. Then your $40 is down the drain and you have a game you can no longer play.
  15. CXL Pricing-Is Monte Cristo serious?

Originally posted by: yakaspat I'd be okay if Monte Cristo did what EA has done with Sims3, actually. My wife plays the Sims3 and loves it. But, there is a huge difference between paying for bonus content by-the-piece and paying a flat monthly fee for essential game content. If the single player game were fully functionable, like the Sims3 is sans bonus content, and you only were expected to pay a small amount for additional building sets, that would be reasonable. With the Sims3, if you want another bedroom set of furniture, you pay a small amount (like 3 dollars) and then download the furniture set. You don't pay a monthly fee of 10 dollars to unlock essential game content. What MC has done would be the equivalent of the Sims3 missing all bedroom furniture in the single player game unless you pay a monthly charge! That's a big difference than paying for additional bonus bedroom furniture sets. Monte Cristo is taking a huge risk that is probably going to come back to bite them. I refuse to pay monthly fees to play computer games, especially for what is essentially a single-player genre.quote> But isn't that the problem though. Most of the features most people are looking for are going to be added at some point in the future. IF enough people buy the game and subscribe to the PO, IF they don't or they don't stay subscribed then all bets are off if many of the promised components are ever added. I should also note I really don't think the graphics are all that great.
