I'll try to get a map of the roads, elevated train lines, freeways, etc... Does anyone know a good way to get that though? I remember struggling with it a while back.

For now, here are a couple of pics:

That old 60's color film, just doesn't seem to capture blues like good modern film.

This shows a part of the downtown area and a piece of Grant Park. The people of Chicago are hard at work
    constructing the park.

This next picture shows Meigs Airfield, Adler Planeterium, The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium,
Soldier Field, and McCormick Place which is currently under construction (due to be completed in 1972).

Still wrestling with the city and getting everything in order...

How did you do the photoshopping? Just fiddle with the hue to give it a slightly yellow cast?

Oh, and I've got several new BATs on the STEX for you to check out, several of them from the Chicago area. Yeah, okay, they're pretty much all based on things in the Chicago area. Just check it out.

Just a few more pics of the city...

Here is the current skyline. What a big difference from the first picture that started this CJ!
    /idealbb/files/1970

A shot of an area downtown. You can see it in the picture above if you look for the red building
    /idealbb/files/1970

The opera house at night. This is located along the canal. If you look hard you can find it in the skyline picture near a bridge.
    /idealbb/files/1970

This is De Paul University area...
    /idealbb/files/1967

I do have some of your BATs ardecila... I know right off hand I used the Wrigley, Boston Market, and I think the Reliance Building.9.gif

Oh, good. I notice Wrigley Square in the overhead shot in your last post. It should be at the northwest corner of the park, though.

zeb, this is absolutely fantastic. As a displaced Chicagoan, well, it's like having home on the ST forums2.gif. Well, maybe not. But way to go on squeezing in a great city and a great CJ along with work and life.

I work for the US Army. I go places, visit mean people, and kill them.

Winston Churchill is generall credited for saying something to the effect of: "People sleep soundly in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". That about sums up my life, besides the "rough men" part.

I love this region.  I think it's awesome how you've decided to present it.  I've actually learned a lot about Chicago that I didn't even know.  Keep up the fantastic work.

Wow, this is absolutely stunning! I really, really like the way you're presenting this CJ, it does justice to the very city where the skyscraper was born. If only someone had BATted the various buildings along the Chicago River, they make a fabulous ensemble.

I wish you good luck with this! 1.gif

Looking good, but I do believe that the John Hancock center is rotated the wrong way.  The narrow side should be facing lake Michigan.

I like this CJ a lot, really. I was also working on a Chicago region based on making it as accurate as possible, which was forcing me to edit the map a lot to get roads to fit where needed. The CJ is still on simtropolis somewhere but the region is gone 8.gif . I lost all of it when I was forced to reinstall windows. I have now started to back up the My Documents folder often because of this (I hate it when games save the info there, not many people use more than one account).

Moving on, I say that this is a very nice looking city and I enjoy your building of this city by year and keeping to history. Can you show a screenshot of the UIC campus (most of it was built in the 60s) ? It would be the area between Roosevelt to Harrison and (Halsted to Racine for east campus) (Ashland to Damen for west(medical) campus). I go to and live at UIC in case anyone is wondering 3.gif

PS - And speaking about making roads acurate, isn't it annoying trying to make Ogden, Blue Island, Grand, and many other streets that don't go at 45 degrees? I thought it was.26.gif

It is annoying, but try re-creating Washington with all its crazy avenue angles.

Really makes me think how lucky I am to be re-creating a city with such a nice grid (yeah, I have one too, but it's not CJ-worthy).

These pictures make the city look like it really was taken during the 60's. Very, very realistic. I'd like to congratuate you on your Photoshopping.

I like the way the city's developing, but what would I know about the way the buildings are built, since I've never been to Chicago. 3.gif

    Good work there! 44.gif

Wow, that is a fantastic looking picture of the skyline. I like those colors and the funny little details you make in them. The lettering is correct for the time.
