Great Journal! I had asked in my journal if people missed having time periods and didn't get a single response. I am glad to see someone else chronicling their city through time periods. Awesome job on the pics too. Another great journal I have to keep up with 1.gif

Between B&W photos and color, you should use sepia tones, like pics from the Old West and early 1900's

    How's that with the sepia?

I'm working on Chicago's railroads now... Unfortunately I'm quite dissapointed with how Sim City handles them. If you have some tips on how to make a rail line work better I'd like to hear. For instance, I have a couple of lines that get no usage at all (both passenger and freight).

Here are a few shots of the rail lines...

This shows the Galena & Chicago Union as well as the Milwaukee & Chicago Rail Road. The Galena travels to the right edge of the picture while the Milwaukee goes off the bottom edge. The rail lines are located on the western shore of the canal.

This picture shows the Joliet & Chicago R.R. and the Rock Island. It is located south of the Chicago metro area.
    /idealbb/files/Chicago

This image of the Chicago metro area also shows the Illinois Central rail line along the lake shore. This line traveled south to St. Louis and finally the Gulf of Mexico.

Here is an over view of Passenger Rail utilization...
    /idealbb/files/Chicago
As you can see, it doesn't look like the rail has much effect on the city. I was hoping for a little more.

I've a bit of work to do bringing the rest of the region up to date so my updates will slow down for a little while. Perhaps increasing the regions pop count will help with the rail usage some?

If you want to bend the rules slightly, tweak the transport speeds with the Traffic Cop program.

    SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

The river is very polluted. I guess that makes it more realistic too.

Hopefully your city won't burn down in its early stages like Chicago really did.

when you start to build transit you might have a look at this page

    http://www.chicago-l.org/maps/route/index.html

maybe you already know about it.  if not, there are some great high resolution maps from 1898-2003 illustrating chicago's 'L' development over the years.

Very Cool! I didn't know about this... I have another map that is much harder to read... this makes things a lot easier. Thanks!

I just looked at everysingle subway system map in this link, it's amazing to see how the Chicago Subway evolved.  Zeb Fisher, with this reference to help you, I can't wait to see how you'll implement the evolution of the Chicago Subway system in your City Journal.

For the stock yard I just grew the city around a cow farm that was already there. The location is a little off but its close to where it is supposed to be.

So we are getting close to the Great Fire! Right now I am still working on the rest of the region and also practicing the fire. I want to make sure I can get some dramatic pictures.

The city is growing very fast now... mainly I need to begin attracting higher wealth residents in order to get bigger buildings. I accidently had one high-tech industry pop up, heheh. So I had to go through all my cities and raise the tax rate to 20%. As I grow the surrounding regions though, the city itself seems to grow better.

OH, excuse my misprints in the previous post... ugggh! I'm in a slight rush.
