Hey Selles, I think almost every CJ'er is going through the process of having to decide whether to make the switch or not. I already have, and im going to continue the one in the forums aswell (at least untill the new section becomes more popular). The switch itself only took me about 15 minutes to transfer my whole CJ (all you have to do is copy and paste, its really easy)!!! Anyway Lookin forward to see what you decide to do and good luck with school!!!

    Raysfan16: Precisely!

GreekMan: I'm majoring in psychology, how about you? Don't worry, I don't plan on stopping, but there will be a few down-times with little-to-no updates.

Teeparex: I just started my eventual transfer into the new CJ section, and it doesn't seem that hard. I don't plan on doing it all at once though. With a CJ like yours, it's hard to stay away!

edmonton_stinks: Yeah, it's hard but awesome! The new section does have its perks, so I figured I'd check it out. I'm going to start making a transfer little-by-little.

jacqulina: Thank you Jacky. I always apreciate your comments.

Plane-Crash12000: Thank you, and welcome to Simtropolis!

dfnva: Thanks Dan! I think I might need all the luck I can get!

Hawkeye9: I figured I'm gonna try both the forums and the new sections as well. As you said, it doesn't take too long. Thank you for you kind words!

    A little update.

So I did make the move over to the new CJ section; however, I just started with the History for starters. I don't plan on moving all updates over at once, I just want to see what kind of attention it gets as I transfer update - to update. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have not seen my entire CJ and I figured this might give them a chance to see how my CJ has progressed.

As for new updates, I do plan on posting updates in tandem. For some reason I really like the forum aspect, so unless this dies completely I won't make the full transition over. So for those of you who prefer the CJ forums, I'll still be there. For those who prefer the new CJ section, I do plan on getting my entire CJ up and running over there too. I figure it's a win-win situation.

Oh, and on a side note, Update 13 - The History Lesson, has been moved to the front page. I figure it's a better fit there anyway.

    Update 26

Today's update features the city of Rochdale. If you remember back to when i was previewing my transportation maps, you would have seen this.

    maps_clermont_rochdale.jpg

Rochdale has since grown, mostly on the east side along Primary 47. Here is an overview of the town. As you can tell, agriculture plays a large role in Rochdale's economy.

    rochdale01.jpg

Here is downtown Rochdale. Downtown Rochdale is nothing special. There's only a few buildings taller three floors.

    downtown02.jpg

And a close up to downtown.

    downtown01.jpg

To the east of downtown is the industrial district.

    industry02.jpg

On the other side of the tracks is the water tower that supplies the town with drinking water. Closeby are a few grain elevators where farmers unload their grain to be shipped across the province. Fortune's location in the middle of the Atlantic makes it a prime location to ship towards the large continent of Africa; much of the grain produced in Fortune is shipped to Africa.

    industry01.jpg

    agriculture01.jpg

This is the residential area north of the tracks.

    northside01.jpg

Some more houses, west of downtown.

    southside01.jpg

This is a relatively new residential development across the river to the west.

    westside01.jpg

Rochdale has two high schools. James O. Price Highschool is the largest highschool in Rochdale.

    highschool01.jpg

Just a few blocks away is a small stadium, a venue for provincial football and soccer games.

    stadium01.jpg

This is another residential development, this one is located to the east of downtown.

    commercial01.jpg

    This is Cunningham Highschool.

    highschool02.jpg

And a nice quiet place to relax.

    park01.jpg

Here is a small pond on the side of the city bypass.

    pond01.jpg

The newest development in Rochdale is the new commercial district in the very east end.

    commercial02.jpg

That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed Rochdale.

Greekman: Thanks a lot! I was also thinking of taking urban planning when I was in highschool, but my intro psych class had be converted. Sens fan?.... Go HABS go!!

Schulmanator:  Thanks buddy! I always appreciate your comments.

TmiguelT: Thanks man, I'm glad you liked everything.

Teeparex: Thanks for the nice comment!

Jacqulina: As always, it's nice to hear from you. Thanks for your comments. As for the new CJ section, my one friend was telling me he was having troubles with it too, and he's still not able to post anything in there. Not sure why that happens.

Hawkeye9: Yes it IS a lot of farmland! I takes SOOO long to do, it's usually something I do when I run out of motivation to keep up with my cities. It's something you can do while reading a book... hahaha.

dfnva: Thanks Dan. I'll be showing off a few more maps here and there.

danielcote: Thanks buddy. If I remember correctly, you're a Habs fan? They just clinched a playoff spot tonight!!

De Ja Vu: Thanks man! I appreciate your comments.

    Update 27

Ok, so I don't have too much to show tonight. I've been working on a lot of developments in the Wellwood Greater Metropolitan Area. Downtown has expanded drastically to the point that Wellwood has taken over Fortune City for the largest city in Fortune. I'm looking forward to showing you guys what I have in store, but for now I have the transit map of Wellwood and the surrounding area.

    wellwoodmap01.jpg

In other developments, I have been working on the city of Sharon to make it look more like a ****hole. I have changed a lot of the default Maxis IM into some custom ID bats based on the old brick look. I think it's starting to look really good. I have a lot of plans with Sharon to make it a very undesirable place to live.

As for the next update, I hope to have pictures of Wellwood and surrounding area in the next couple of days.

I like how Rochdale is set up. It seems to be a pretty sleepy little city. The maps you provide are worth alot, and make you cj quite interesting!

Benedict: Thank you for your kind comment. It did take quite a while to finish the map, but I think it was worth it. I am still in the process of adding the finishing touches, so I should have pictures of the city shortly.

    Teeparex: Thank you!

TmiguelT: I have a tutorial on page 5 with step by step instructions. You should note that you can also take the transit view from within the city, so you don't have to skew the region view.

dfnva: Thank you Dan. Once you get the transit map from SimCity into photoshop and create the blending options for the appropriate layers, it's pretty straight forward. Time consuming, but straight forward.

Raysfan16: Thanks! You will be happy to know that I am showcasing Sharon this update.

fordguy5: Thanks buddy. Yeah, Rochdale is just a boring small city with nothing much going on. If there's anything exciting going on in Rochdale it's their rivalry with Clermont *spit*. But Rochdale has nothing on Clermont.

jonpaulosiglos: Thank you kindly! I'm glad you enjoyed my farmlands.

jacqulina: Hi Jacky, nice having you back. I'm glad you're able to post in the new CJ section. Did you figure out what the problem was?

    Update 28

So I have been working hard on making Sharon look like an awesome awful place to live. Sharon as a city has had a colourful history. In the early 1900s, sir Charles Sharon founded the city of Sharon at it's current location because of it's proximity to a large coal deposit. Soon, residents from all over the island of Fortune came to Sharon to work in the coal mine. With an abundance of coal, Sharon became the powerplant of Fortune, providing power to the entire province.

There was no need for higher education or skilled labour in the mine. The mine provided a lot of blue-collar jobs. At that time, Fortune was part of the British Empire, and because the 100 Years Deal saw Fortune change hands to Canada in 1967, Britain saw no need to spend resources to keep Fortune prosperous. As a result, the education system of Fortune was lacking. Sharon was a city which provided much needed jobs for a desperate secluded island.

However, after Fortune became a part of Canada, the government of Canada spent money on education and other infrastructure. Soon, the demand for blue collar workers declined as new technologies were developed. With new technology came cleaner sources of power.

The the 1990s, after talk of the Kyoto protocol, Fortune decided to cut emissions by decreasing the amount of coal burned in Sharon's powerplants. As a result, coal miners lost their jobs and the power company in Sharon downsized from 3,000 to 1,000 employees. There was civil unrest and riots broke out protesting the government's actions. Fires were started and were left to burn throughout the city.

To make matters worse, the municipal government has been criticized for their incompetence. City planners have spend millions of dollars on infrastructure plans which have brought no relief to traffic. In some cases traffic has become worse as a result of poor foresight.

But that's enough history for now, lets get to the pictures...

The most notorious blunder made by the city planners is the botched interchange at Grant Ave. and Primary 24. Here is what the intersection looked like before the blunder.

    cinterchange01.jpg

Initially, the plan was to add two more lanes to Grant Ave.

    cinterchange03.jpg

However, the two lanes did not solve any traffic problems.

    cinterchange04.jpg

So city planners decided to build an overpass over P-24. They built detour roads so people who had to enter/exit from P-24 at Grant Ave. could do so while the interchange was under construction.

    cinterchange06.jpg

They elevated Grant Ave. over P-24. However they did not expect to run out of room on the east side of the tracks!! The warehouses across the tracks did not leave enough room to build a ramp for the elevated section.

    cinterchange07.jpg

City planners quickly went back to the drawing board and devised a solution. Unfortunately, the solution did not improve on the traffic problem!

    cinterchange08.jpg

Here is an overview of the botched interchange.

    cinterchange09.jpg

As you've noticed, there are a lot of abandoned buildings in Sharon. Over the years companies have been cutting employees in order to stay afloat. The unemployment rate is skyrocketing. As a result, people are moving to other areas in Fortune.

    downtown01.jpg

    downtown03.jpg

    downtown05.jpg

    downtown06.jpg

As mentioned previously, the citizens of Sharon started riots in protest of the government lowering energy production of the coal powerplants. As a result, massive fires were started and were left to burn. This community was almost entirely wiped out, and no one has bothered to rebuild.

    fire01.jpg

The industry around Sharon releases plenty of pollution into the air. The coal powerplants are the biggest culprits.

    coalpower01.jpg

    industry01.jpg

    industry02.jpg

In another poor decision by Sharon city planners, an original attempt to create a bypass to Trenton (the suburban city to the east) was poorly executed. The city planners showed their lack of foresight as they ran out of room next to the rail line. The abandonned section of the then-planned viaduct remains as a scar of what has been a terrible history of poorly designed transportation networks. Finally the planners got it right with a the interchange seen in this last picture.

    interchange01.jpg

I hope you enjoyed the sights of Sharon. Not every city can be perfect!

I like the city blocks that are just empty...no buildings or anything left, just grass and maybe one or two houses. IMO it illustrates abandonment far better than the blackened buildings.
