Hey, a good rural update. About those tanks you plopped, did you just put them in the lot editor?

Btw, something I didn't catch in the last update- About Aaron Hill, are you a Blue Jays fan? (If not, that's the name of a player on their team, lol) If so, very clever and sneaky!

elemented9: Thanks for dropping by! I'm glad you enjoyed what you saw. I hope you come back for more.

jacqulina: Thanks Jacky, I always appreciate your comments.

Benedict: Thanks for the comment. I do like having variety in my regions.

    ComputerGuy890100: Thanks man!

Hawkeye9: Yeah, I've had a few pictures sitting on the back burner so I figured I would show you what I had. Hopefully I don't update faster than I can grow my cities!

dfnva: Thanks! I just started using the RHW, so it's good to hear it's working!

Raysfan16: I got those tanks from TJD Eye Candy Oil Tanks found on the STEX. You can get them right here. As for being a Jays fan, guilty as charged. I tend to use pro athletes to name cities/landscapes in my regions. For instance, Wellwood after Kyle Wellwood, Hartnell after Scotty Hartnell. There's more but I can't think of them at the moment.

    Update 21

Today's update features the Douglass Pass. The next 4 updates will featured on the Douglas Pass, since I've put quite the effort into making it scenic. Having said that, this will be part 1 of 4.

    douglas_banner.jpg

The Douglas Pass is the main pass through the Niveous Mountains. The highway through the pass is Fortune Primary 24, or otherwise known as the Douglas Pass highway. If you're read the way I number highways, you might wonder why the highway that travels through the pass is given an even number rather than an odd number. The simple answer to that is that after the pass through the mountains, the highway turns sharply northward and ends up traveling through the town of Weston and ends at the Northern Coastal Highway. So in the end, the net travel is mostly north/south. But enough reading for now, lets get on to the pictures!

The very begining of the Douglas Pass starts in the farming community of Cedar Valley so these pictures might look familiar to you. The RHW you see here is Fortune Primary 24. For today's update we will follow Fortune Primary 24 into the Douglas Pass.

Here is Fortune Primary leaving Cedar Valley.

    douglas01_01.jpg

    douglas01_02.jpg

    douglas01_03.jpg

And a nice closeup of the bridge spanning the Kaplan River.

    douglas01_04.jpg

We are now leaving Cedar Valley. We won't see another community until we reach the hamlet of Kaplan.

    douglas01_05.jpg

    douglas01_06.jpg

Here is another bridge that spans the Kaplan River. This road is not very well maintained. We will see where the bridge leads us in part 2 of 4.

    douglas02_01.jpg

This is an area where people can take a break from their long drive through the pass. The lookout area gives a breath taking view. I'll show you the view in part 2.

In the bottom left is the hamlet of Kaplan. Kaplan really has nothing to offer, except for a gas station. There have been talks of building a small hotel so commuters have a place to stay in case of increment weather.

    douglas02_03.jpg

Here is a close up of Kaplan. As you can see, there's really nothing going for it except for the wonderful natural scenery.

    kaplan02.jpg

    douglas02_04.jpg

A small waterfall can be seen from the highway.

    douglas02_05.jpg

    douglas02_06.jpg

And that's it for Douglas Pass update part 1 of 4. I hope you enjoyed the view around the Douglas Pass highway. Tune into part 2 for some more beautiful scenery

colonel1: Thanks for the comment! I hope you come back for more.

    Update 22

This will be update part 2 of 4 of the Douglas Pass. I have a lot of pictures to show you, so I hope you're ready!

    douglas_banner.jpg

Last update I showed you a street that branched off the Douglas Pass Highway. That street ended up crossing the Kaplan River. Lets see where the street takes up.

    bridge01.jpg

    bridge02.jpg

It leads us to some switchbacks up a steep mountain side.

    switchback01_01.jpg

After the first set of switchbacks there's a parking lot with a nice lookout spot.

    falls06.jpg

    lookout03.jpg

    lookout04.jpg

    falls03.jpg

Now lets continue up the switchbacks and see where it takes us.

    mayor02.jpg

It's quite the view from up there.

    lookout05.jpg

Back on the other side of the Kaplan River, there is another lookout point not far from the Douglas Pass Highway. You saw that lookout point in part 1. Here is another view.

    lookout02.jpg

And a closer look. As you can see, there's a trail that takes you to the river's edge. There's even a park bench so you can sit down and enjoy the view and the sounds of the waterfalls.

    lookout01.jpg

    falls04.jpg

Lets take a look at the other waterfalls around the area/

    falls01.jpg

    falls02.jpg

    falls02.jpg

    falls08.jpg

    falls09.jpg

    falls10.jpg

    streams01.jpg

Further down the Douglas Pass Highway, the road winds to pass an outcrop of rocks.

    douglas_03_01.jpg

    switchback02_01.jpg

    switchback02_02.jpg

    switchback02_03.jpg

The survey crew had very little difficulty surveying the land for the construction of the Douglas Pass Highway. It was a different story for the rail however. The ground had to be leveled and rock had to be blasted in order to construct the railway.

    rail01.jpg

    rail02.jpg

    rail03.jpg

    rail04.jpg

    rail06.jpg

    rail07.jpg

And that wraps up update 2 of 4 of the Douglas Pass. So far we've made it halfway through the mountain pass. I hope you enjoyed what you've seen so far.

    Wow, this is very beautiful!

Thanks for the link, and about the sports names- from a Tampa Bay fan, I don't think the Lecavalier River or the Artyukhin Pass would go unnoticed...lol

Wow the waterfalls are alot of work I bet! Truly some of the best mountain scenery I have ever seen in SC. Any small mountain tourist type comunities to come? If I lived in this region I would want to spend some time in this area. Is this area a national or provincial park? Have any Provincial parks or recreation areas in your region? But yeah amazing job!

Hi - I'm new to your CJ, but I want you to know that I admire your skill at replicating North American development patterns. Excellent work with Regina, and I liked the rail yard in Trenton - I've never seen anyone feature something like that and I thought it was pretty cool. The last update was beautiful; you've really done an excellent job expressing urban, suburban and rural development patterns in your region.

Great update! I like the rocky cliffs along the rivers and creeks and the road switchbacks and curves are so realistic to the mountaneous area. Nice job also connecting the ploppable water to the Maxis water.

Raysfan16: You're welcome for the link, and thanks for the comment. Who knows, maybe I'll throw in some Tampa name in somewhere, just to try to catch you off guard.

    ComputerGuy890100: Thanks!

fordguy5: Hey man, thanks a lot. You don't post a lot, but when you visit my CJ you always seem to have lots to say! I really appreciate your comments. As for any small tourist type communities, I have something in store, but that will have to wait until a later update. As for National or Provincial parks, I will answer that question in this update!!

knarfmo: Thanks for that really nice comment. The North American development pattern is exactly what I have been striving for, so it's nice to know I'm doing it well! Regina has been really rough, especially since I've done all the grid and I'm getting into the curved streets of the suburbs. Thanks again for all your comments!!

GreekMan: Thanks for the comment. As for Jacky, there's NO way I could match her abilities at making natural landscapes!!!

danielcote: I'm glad you liked them, thanks for the comment!

dfnva: Thanks! I found it very tricky connecting the ploppable water with Maxis water. Good to know it turned out!

Hawkeye9: Thanks Hawkeye, it's good to know the waterfall effects and the transition of ploppable water to Maxis water worked. It took a long time, but I got it!

    SimsPlanet2: Thanks!

    art128: Thanks a lot!

Schulmanator: Thanks man! A comment like that means a lot coming from a Simtropolis icon like you.

    Update 23

This update contains part 3 of 4 of the Douglas Pass. In this update we will continue through the Douglas Pass Highway and explore the sights.

    douglaspass_banner02.jpg

If you look closely at this picture you might get a very slight glimpse of a treat I have to show you all in a future update. Try to guess what it is!

Now lets continue our trip through the Douglas Pass.

    douglas_04_01.jpg

As we continue our way through the pass, we pass this sign on the highway. We're aproaching the Douglas National Park!

    douglas_national_park_sign1.jpg

Sure enough, further down the highway we get to the park entrance. The two lane highway temporarily turns into four lanes at the park gate. All traffic must stop and purchase a pass to enter the Douglas National Park. U-turn lanes are built for those who do not want to pay. A parking lot is situated at the side for those who work at the gate.

    douglas_national_park01.jpg

    douglas_national_park02.jpg

    douglas_national_park03.jpg

This is the sign we see once be enter the park.

    douglas_national_park_sign2.jpg

Lets continue our drive down the highway.

    douglas_04_03.jpg

This is the approach to the town of Douglas. If we turn right (coming from the left) we will head towards the town.

    douglas_approach02.jpg

    douglas_approach01.jpg

We have to cross two bridges before we get to the town.

    bridge01_01.jpg

    bridge02_01.jpg

    bridge02_02.jpg

And this is the small town of Douglas.

    douglas01.jpg

If we keep driving down Main St. until the end of town, it turns into Douglas Hotel Rd. The road is a windy stretch of swtichbacks that leads towards the luxurious Douglas Hotel. The Douglas Hotel offers a beautiful view of the valley below.

    douglas_hotel03.jpg

    douglas_hotel04.jpg

    douglas_hotel02.jpg

    douglas_hotel01.jpg

Back at the intersection on the Douglas Pass Highway, if we had turned left instead of right the road would lead us to the workplaces of the majority of Douglas' residents.

    industry02.jpg

The lumber yard and paper mill are important to the economy of this mountain town. It's a good thing the Federal Government controls logging inside any National Park.

    industry01.jpg

And just because I can't leave you guys with pictures of ugly railyards and smokestacks, here are a few more waterfalls that can be found around the area.

    falls02.jpg

    falls03.jpg

    falls01.jpg

And a couple random mountain tops that I thought looked pretty nice.

    mountains01.jpg

    mountains02.jpg

That is all for now! I hope you enjoyed part 3 of 4 of the Douglas Pass.

Jacqulina: Thank you for your very kind words.

packersfan: Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Raysfan16: Ok, no Tampa names. Maybe you just need a closer look... I'm actually pretty excited about it, and I'm hoping at least one person sees it!

ComputerGuy890100: When I first read your post, I thought you had it.... at least until I read the part after the coma. The sandy islands aren't part of the "surprise". About the gate, it was an toll booth I downloaded ages ago. I just searched the STEX and the LEX for them but I couldn't find them.

As for that special "surprise" I was telling you about, I figured I might as well give some hints as to where it is... in that first picture in update 23, it's on the right half of the picture. If that's not enough I'll give another hint...

In the bottom right there is that mountain and i believe that it is a ski resort... the trees are shaped in a way that make it look like there are runs going down the hill and I spot some towers going up the mountain. I dont know... i could be completly wrong but it was worth a guess!!!

Anyway awsome update!!! I love the use of signs throughout it, very well done!!! Lookin forward to more (and to find out if my guess was even rometly close lol)!!!
