Great terraforming so far (I can't find a spot in that region that still needs finetuning... it looks perfect to me). The story prologue sonds interesting too, I can't wait for the story to begin.

There will not be any updates for the next week or so. I am preparing the introduction for this CJ at the moment and believe me, it will be quite an introduction with quite a story.

As I have said earlier this year, these last updates were made , so all of you were able to see the complete creation of the region, that I handmolded. That was the whole idea of it, and now that the creation is somewhat finished and only missing some details here and there (which I will certainly show before we actually start this CJ).
The actual story will only start later this month or in the beginning of next month. I still have Nexis of Genesis going for at least another 2 months and I will start this one only a month before the end of the other one. Otherwise, it will be too much work for me ( 2 CJ's, the internations project * Istrinia* coming up soon, the cleaning of the CJ forum's older pages and moderating 2 sites.....ouf......I need help soon....lol)

(and I was afraid that my semi-retirement would be boring)

So, something needed absolutely for this Lavender CJ........... is patience21.gif and believe me it'll be worthwhile.2.gif
    Keep the comments coming please.

    ok Vandy,

here are the answers to your questions on page 5, before I went to vacation. Sorry if I have delayed them and also, to be honest, conpletely forgot them. It was a good idea to pm me, thanks.

    before the edit:
A.toQ1: The actual size in kms I would not be able to give you, since I don't know how to measure that. But I used 4x4 medium Citytiles to make the Lavender region, maybe that will give you an idea how big it is (a lot smaller than Nexis of Genesis.)
A.toQ2: the whole map is terraformed by hand, entirely, I still don't know how to make greyscale maps and then transform them into the game, never done it, never will. I like terraforming. I do not use any generating tools , nor other special terraforming tools, all I need are the ones found in God-mode.
A.toQ3: The lakes above sealevel are all done with teirusu's raintool. Of course these lakes don't save , so I have to do them all over again everytime I come back to these cities, but hey, it is worthwhile.

Now, I prefer medium sized cities (or counties/townships as I call them) simply because they are easier to build on. Easier to build, to develop and also easier for the Computer, once they're filled with buildings. Lavender though has a large city right in the middle, something that I haven't tried out before. I hope that my computer is powerful enough to handle it later.
I usually do a region before I think of a story that comes along with it. I did it with Genesis, and I also did it with Lavender. The story comes along while creating the region. Btw, Lavender was made during last winter and I took shots of everytime I worked on it, so it looked like that it was done a few weeks ago, when I started showing it. The idea for the story I had while playing with Nexis of Genesis during early spring. I was going to incorporate it with Genesis, but then the story went a way that I was not able to make it appear in Genesis, so I kept it for Lavender.
When you create (hand-terraform) a region, Vandy, just go as it feels right to you. No need for a plan, just a simple basic idea of what you need or want, like a laky region, coastline or rivery region, is enough to let your imagination wander and create something that you will surly be proud of later. All great things that mankind have invented or created have happend like this, none have been plannned. Just follow your instinct.

Thanks for all the nice words. They are appreciated. Hope that will help you.2.gif

I can't wait to start Lavender, so I did and I have already more than 60 pics and 13 pages done....lol. But I will wait until I finish Genesis of Nexis and I think that won't be long, since interest for that CJ has gone really down now, and I will just accelerate the ending a bit.

4x4 medium city tiles = 8x8 kilometers, according to maxis.

Thanks Leech, so I suppose that a medium map is 2x2 kms....hm.....sounds ok.

.....*give me genesis*......lol.....screamomatic....I thought I heard that somewhere in a startrekfilm. Wasn't it a Clignon who said it? I think it was the same actor as *Doc* in *Return to the future*....right?
    lol. that was funny though.17.gif

Wow!!  Where was I when this started!?  Amazing work going on here with your terraforming!  This looks like a place I would love to visit regularly with the beautiful scenery and clear waters!  I look forward to seeing this develop more!  44.gif  44.gif

I just finished the terraform fine-tuning in the first three townships (counties) and here are some teaser pics from Sparrow's Falls.
Below a close look at the falls, one can even see a moose in the water.

    Hello, MrBisonM

Thank you for your answers.  I do appreciate your taking the time to do so.

Ah, Teirursu's Rain Tool.  I had a feeling that is what you used.  I'm still debating using that tool, using PEG's Ponds or using Plopbale Water.  I just don't know which one to use.

As to terraforming, your comments are spot on!  I agree that you need to go with the flow and allow your fingers to form the land under them (so to speak). I've done that with Isabella and while I'm not completely satisfied with the results, I believe they're good enough to use as my region.  Thanks for your comments and direction in this area.

I certainly am looking forward to the continuation of Lavender and want to thank you (as well as let you know the *anguish* you've caused 2.gif  ) for the teaser pictures.  They are beautiful and certainly speak well of your skills.

    Take good care.

    Regards,

    Vandy

    Thanks folks.

I am using the teirusu watertool for bigger lakes and ponds and for the simple reason that it is the best looking one so far. Nothing against Peg's stream and pondset. I use them also, while it is the only one that has acceptable waterfalls in them, but they are not as natural as I would like them, still making some sharp corners and straight lines.

Ha, oops, I didn't even know that was from Star trek. It's only I got here half-way through genesis and didn't really get to see it, at-least Lavender looks good. It's no Nexis of Genesis though. I can still have it right, even though 200 brown boxes would show-up. Don't worry, I already know it'll never happen. Btw, lavender looks boootiful, eh.1.gif

    Well, finally here it is......39.gif
    The Lavender story.

    Firstarrival.JPG

<<<<< After having fought with my computer, but still lost most of the files because of a system failure probably caused by a virus, I was able to recreate the Lavender region with what was left of it.
I have a copy of every file on my second hard-drive. Every file that I downloaded, everything that I wrote and every picture that I took. Of course all this is saved.
One thing though that I didn't think of is to savekeep a copy of the MyDocuments/Simcity/pluginfolder every week or so. Unfortunatly the game doesn't work with this folder on drive D:. The regions/cities I have saved once in awhile and therefore all the saved games are intact, but the pluginfolder was *kaputt*....Now, what I had in that folder is completely unknown, except that is was 1.7 gb big. I tried to remember to put back everything (lots, bats, textures, mods and props) into the new pluginfolder, after the reinstalling of the windows, but sorry....no success, all the regions are crashing on me, except Norland, which had a different pluginfolder with a lot less files.
Nexis of Genesis is completely lost, but there will be a formal ending soon, only written though, since I am unable to enter the cities of this region without the computer crashing on me. Too many files are missing. There were thousands in there..... So we will put it on ice soon. >>>>>

This is where the story of Lavender now begins and I will update it twice a week, starting next weekend and hoping of course that you will enjoy this new serie. It will be a lot shorter than Nexis of Genesis of course, but it will have at least the same quality, if not better.
I recommend meqanwhile that you read a few pages back to get to know the basics of the story again.
The region will almost be the same, because it was saved on drive D: only two weeks before the problems started.

    So, welcome back this weekend.

I've been looking forward to this one since you mentioned that Nexis would be ending and you'd be starting a new one... Can't wait to see what you have in store!

Your CJ truly has a warm feel to it. The nature just is comforting. Great job with reaching 7 pages already... I don't remember this CJ at all before... quite odd.

Wow, nice region!  Some great terraforming and creative use of custom items.  It will be sad to see those carefully placed rocks, stumps, trees, etc, wiped out by development!

Hey...glad to see some old faces from Nexis of Genesis and also some new ones.

Nexis won't be killed nexis....lol....it'll be remembered and stored. But that doesn't mean you stop existing, right nexis?....lol

CD, I am glad to see you here, hope you liked so far what I create with your terrain mod. Can't wait until you finish the others (hopefully one day)

Well it's good to see you back with Lavender. It's sad for Nexis of Genesis but things like that happen with computers and ther's very little to do. I had to restart my region from scratch 9 months ago because of computer problems.
