Gasoline Prices

I read somewhere that gas prices will multiply by 1.5x every 2 years. and if this trend continues then we will have 29 dollar gas per gallon by 2020... (that is estimated with $3.85 x 1.5 as the main numbers)

Dont worry it's only going to get worse.

Hydrogen is one of the answers though.

I would love to see Hydrogen as are fuel of choice, only reason it truly hasn't really hit the market heavy is one: how does the government tax it and two: infrastructure; there would have to be a huge cost to tax payers to give an incentive to companys to either convert/modify exsisting fuel stations and or build new ones.

If we have the money to that then why don't we have the money to overhaul our healthcare system? But that's beside the point, we can only hope someone(s) take the risk and build the cars and build the stations. Of course, they could always build the car to create to divide it's own molocules and create the Hydrogen, of course this will never happen.

You forgot the big one: hydrogen doesn't occur naturally. You have to make it. And (I cannot stress this enough) it requires more energy to make hydrogen fuel than you get from burning it. And always will, as it would be in violation of the second law of thermodynamics for it not to. 49.gif

So, it's not the answer, sorry.

Yeah, that wouldn't work. See above.

If this where not true what we be the point of exploring it period? BMW has been working on a hydrogen since the 80's - and yes it is possible to create hydrogen cheap, research is on the rise. Heres a link to support your belief: >> http://www.physorg.com/news85074285.html

And here's two to support my idea: >>

http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/science_news/2936846.html

http://www.technologyreview.com/BizTech/wtr_16523,295,p1.html?a=f&a=f&a=f

In the end you can find answers to support both ideas, however truth is, if cost couldn't never be reduced wether in production or finacial, companies would not be wasting there time or investment (which they have stock holders to be also concerned about) in a fruitless venture. It will be here soon, as I have already seen a BMW, a Ford Truck, and a Asian vehicle utilizing hydrogen, and without costing us more than we get from it.

Plus if we use renewable fuels to make hydrogen - whats to lose!

Somewhere around here it was $12 a gallon for petrol..using US gallons. Which is rather high. And now of course that electricity prices in the UK have gone up by about 50% in the past few months, plus water prices going up a load soon...well, it is definitely going to be a struggle for us, even though we use well below the average in both water use and electricity use.

It is quite obvious that the days of cheap fuel is over. And they will never, ever, come back again (at least, for oil-derived fuel).

Here in Connecticut gas is around $4.00 a gallon. After watching CNN a few weeks ago, I learned that Connecticut and Alaska were the first states to approach $4.00 a gallon.

All hydrogen really accomplishes is a method of storing the energy in a car, where you can't exactly have a nuclear power plant or anything of the sort. You use electricity to create the hydrogen, which in turn comes from such power plants.

Although, if your energy is ultimately coming from the power grid anyway, the question is begged:

Why not just make an electric car and use a battery that you can recharge by plugging into a wall outlet instead of a fuel cell? (GM is working on one of those, actually)

You have fewer steps in the process so you'd think it would be more efficient.

Not to mention that hydrogen is quite reactive. Explosively so. Think Hindenburg here. That thing was full of hydrogen. And yes, much more so than gasoline, too. Gas will quite readily burn, but is very hard to actually get to explode.

Meaning, if you're in a hydrogen powered car and you get into a bad accident, you'll have a nice kaboom to contend with. Not to mention there's always the chance for that to occur from some other cause not related to a crash (stray spark, leak, whatever).

Battery power would be more efficient and safer. The only problem is getting a battery that can hold enough charge to power a car for any reasonable amount of time. The technology still needs to be developed..... but the same can be said of hydrogen fuel cells, so why focus there and not on the batteries?

$3.31

Yay... I'll enjoy it while it last because I know a guy who's big in oil located within North Dakota, and he tells me that you can expect prices to go back up again because the demand is still building up and will eventually surpass supply once again.

Boston area, it's around $3.60ish, more or less. In the last week, I've seen as high as $3.85 and as low as $3.40. But, I filled up two days ago at Sunoco for $2.20! You might already know about the Price Chopper/Sunoco thing, but for those that don't, when you shop at Price Chopper (grocery store, for those that don't know) and use your PC savings card, you accumulate savings on gas. 10 cents off a gallon per $50 spent. I was up to $1.30 a gallon off. Woulda kept going too, but my savings were set to expire that day, so I filled it up. Loved spending only $25 to fill my car from empty...of course, I can remember when it cost me $15...but that's a different thread o.O

I wonder if this price gouging is just a US thing. Yesterday morning, US$3.69 per gallon at the nearby station. Last night, $3.89. this morning, $4.29. I think it's time for me to build a still and make my own fuel...

Ike did effectively shut down a quarter of all US refining capacity. Prices are going to jump up regardless of whether there is anyone attempting to "milk the situation for all it's worth."

Well, with the stock market rollercoastering generally downward, the price of crude oil (and thus the price of gasoline) has pretty much gone into free fall.

USA Today says the average national price for today (10/16) is $3.125. Yesterday it was $3.163. That's a 3.8¢ drop in one day. Oil's down at $74.54 a barrel.

Back in the summer some people were saying oil was on the way to $200 a barrel by the end of the year. Try again. 31.gif

I saw  $2.89 today here in central Maryland.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

$2.89/gallon here in Ann Arbor, Michigan also. At least on the cheap side of town. Add 15 cents to the more expensive areas.

A whooping $3.00 to $4.00 per gallon of gas average here, with a single, $3.19 per gallon of gas gas station (it always have a huge line of cars wanting to refill their gas tanks, while the other gas stations hardly has any customers) competing against other gas stations that are selling their gas for over $4.00 per gallon.3.gif

EPIC FAIL!

$2.49 in Fargo, North Dakota. It doesn't matter much to me, I drive about 10,000 miles per year in a compact Saturn.
