Disaster Strikes! The largest (and only) city in the country of New Matteras is struck by a catastrophic and horrific hurricane followed by a string of tornadoes, a blizzard, a few floods and an earthquake! The city lie in ruins! President Fulworth declared a national emergency, but that won’t help the residents who are left without homes. A vote in congress declared that a new city should be built north of the ruined site in Cyoderra County. It’s a new beginning for New Matteras! Explicate instructions were given that the new city is to be called Philego and construction should begin immediately!

region1nc6.jpg
above: construction is underway for the Philego city proper, along with the city infrastructure.

This is my first CJ i hope you like it! alot more is on the way planned for today!
i plan to include:
-pictures
-texts, including scenerios
-statistics
-graphs
________________________________________________________________________

As promised, the first of my updates today!

City Update: as of year 3 of Philego's devolpment, the infrastructure and zoning of the first of the city's districts, the old quarter, has been completed. nearly 15 thousand citezens have moved in already. This amount is about half of the refugees from the old city. a fair commercial demand has developed, and the CBD is devolping nicely. Teen sims simply love the new Abercrombie that had been built on 3rd street!
In the news:
-residents have voted and a three person town council has been elected. as the population increaes so will posisitions avaliable on the council!
- children are losing knoledge! Philego in need of school! if you have any suggestions, please fell free to comment!
-the largest comapany currently in the city, Philego Rail, is looking for a new headquarters to be built in the CBD next to the Fulworth Station. they have issued a challenge out to all architects of sim nation to build them a grand company headquarters. the building should preferably be modern, using, as the CEO puts it "lots of shiny glass!". it should should be fairly tall, around 20 to 40 floors and stand out when future highrises are built. it should have a footprint of about 4x4. an image of the location will be posted below. if you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment!

locations in the CBD (in yellow) preffered Philego Rail to build their new headquarters. also in photo, you can see Fulworth Station, Philego's main train terminal and at the bottom left hand corner, you can see part of Twin Park 1
cbdexpansionvu0.jpg
above: City Councils first act was to expand the Philego's CBD. a lack of jobs, resulting in unemployment influenced this decision.
also in this picture are both of the twin parks, 1 & 2 and Highways I-1 and I-3

cbdskylineformingcc0.jpg
A commericial boom hit the city, and the first hint at a skyline appeared as mid rises sprout from the ground

cityriveexpansionpb2.jpg
Demand forced the city council to zone a new district across the Flatire River to be know as the Flatire District. it includes residential, commercial and industrial zoning

To get sims across the river a railroad and highway brige were also built, to be collectively known as the Ben Bridges

update

In the news:
-with the recent additions to the city, local wildlife has been forced to relocate, sometimes within city limits. knocked over garbage cans and unwanted natural visitors has been quite an annoyance to local residents. as response to this, President Fulworth has delcared the land next it I-1 and in the Fortglyph mountains to be a natioanal forest and wildlife reserve. under this decree, no new development can take place within the land outlined and any harm done to the animals within the preserarvation zone is illegal. pictures below and outlined in yellow is the preservation zone, dubbed Cliff Side Natioanl Forest.
wildlifefq2.jpg

-also in the news, their has been rumor among city insiders that a new casino might be in store for downtown Philego. while no word on this has been comfirmed, many are speculating that the new casino will be built in the flatire district. the idea has met much opposition however by the SAC (sims against casinos) who have already held their first picket line near second street.

-the city census reveals that the population has just reached 30,000 residents. this means that all sims from the previously ruined city have been relocated. city planners now have there eyes set on drawing new residents and buissness person to the city from other areas.

- "THE DEAL HAS BEEN SIGNED!" quoted by CEO Mike Smith of Audio Heaven Inc. City hall passed a resolution allowing for a 25 story office building to be built in Philego's CBD. the builing, to be called Audio Heaven Building, will be leasd out 75% Audio Heaven Inc. to be used as their corporate headquarters. the other 25% will be used by local Buiseness. of note, this is the first multinational corperation to base its headquarters in
Philego let alone New Matteras. the building is pictures below

Letter to City Council:
Dear city council,
on behalf of the aristocrats of Philego, we request a new devolpment all of our own. while your city is quite, how you say, suitable for now, it will not meet our needs in the future. The members of our elite leauge (150k plus wages) require a devolpment of our own, away from the "less privaledged". in the devolopment we request a country club where we can lounge, enjoy ourselves and make large buiseness deals. of course, their will be something for you as well. included in this letter is a check, which we are sure will be enough to convince you! we would of course insist that constructioni take place immediatley if possible! pleasure doing buisness with you!

With HIGHEST regards,
Prescott Harrington
chairman of Aristocratic society of Philego (ASP)

Result of letter:
construction under way (by the Cyoderra County Construction Company; CCCC) on the new White Acres District of Philego. only one week into construction and the country club along with Money Lane are completed. the whole project is slated for completion in 6 monthes!
whiteacresunderconstrucuq7.jpg

6 months later, the area is zoned and construction is completed, on schedule! all that is needed now is the wealthy sims to move in

Looks good so far. Very 'griddy', but that's not always a bad thing! I look forward to seeing where you take this CJ.

I look forward to seeing how this project takes off. Only two minor suggestions that I could think of:

1) Try to incorporate a few curvy roads. The grid layout is good (I use it myself), but it's always good to have atleast a couple main roads be curvy. The banks of rivers are an excellent location for such roads and it also opens up many chances for riverfront parks. If you don't have the NAM (Network Add-on Mod) installed, feel free and download it from ST to get those curvy roads.

2) The other suggestion has to do with the Flatire District. I noticed you had a small industrial zone, then a small residential zone, and lastly a huge commercial zone. The sizes of these zones are fine (I am not sure what the end product will look like), but i personally try to keep commercial wedged between residential and industrial. It helps with residential desirabilityand increases customer traffic for commerce. Also, in that particular layout, the commercial would benefit from being near that freeway.

Can't wait to see more!

yea like what psander said its too "griddy" try getting a few more highways more type of transportation and also try downloading

a few things because its too repetitive get some parks in your residential areas soccer feilds and baseball pitches and make it more realistic

unfortunately its too dull. sorry but thats what i think my city is also pretty "griddy" but i've added these features and i think it looks good.

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!

the arson that set most of the city ablaze has been caught and sentanced to death by hanging. the accused, Jemal Shanky, 38 of philego, was found fleeing the country and arrested at the docks yesterday evening. the damage done by Shanky's act of arson destroyed most of the city, save for the new constructed White Acres district. City Council says the cost to rebuild will be hefty, reaching as high as 25 billion, but "it needs to be done" says mayor steve. the grid network, in which the city is set up, prevented firemen from reaching the neccisary areas in time, and allowing the fire to spread. with this in mind, city planners agree to keep more space open and and limit the amount of "inner-city grid".

    THE PHILEGO POST:

"Philgeo was down for the count, but not out yet!"

    article by Steven Cohen

Not to long ago, are beloved city was crippled by a fire that destroyed all by White Acres. today, nearly 7 sim monthes later, Philego is gaining its vibe back. after 2 days intense thought by City Planners, a new plan for Philego's infrastructure was agreed upon, and construction for the city began immediatly! as of now, all (planned) highways and parkways have been constructed, along with Ben Bridge, larger and more modern, symbol to be of the City. phase 1 of the 5 phased project has also been completed. 2 new city districts were included in this phase (see picture below), North Downs (a commericial area) and Slopen (mixed-use, mainly residential). White Acres was also upgraded with higher capacity roads. 2 new parks were included in phase 1. one, Sid Mier Park (pictured Below), is located within North Downs while the other, Slopen Community Park, is located in Slopen. for other recreational purposes, a series of Basketball courts has been placed in slopen for younger sims to enjoy. Philego has bounced Back Economically as well, with Audio Heaven deciding to rebuild their headquarters (an identical building, pictured below), and many more buisnesses wanting to open up shop, dispite the devastating fire.

Wow. Nice update. I hope you didn't burn the city because of what I said! (i'm European so i'm naturally allergic to the grid) I actually like it sometimes! Your new layout looks good too though.

I can't think of a building that will suit your location yet. If I do though i'll let you know.
