W-T-F License Plates recalled

June 27, 2008 - 3:23PM

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina officials are saying CUL8R (see you later) to W-T-F.

The state Division of Motor Vehicles is offering new license plates to those who received tags with the W-T-F letter combination.

W-T-F is a common cell phone and e-mail abbreviation for something we can't write here.

The News and Observer of Raleigh reports the DMV will replace the tags for free for those who may be offended.

A 60-year-old technology teacher complained about the license plates after her grandchildren gave her the 4-1-1 on what W-T-F means.

quote>

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Just one more thing that would have gone away if they had just let it be.

I wonder whether or not I might be able to procure that particular idiom for my own rather extraordinary vehicle license plates?

...or something like that 3.gif

Honestly, I find it quite funny since most states have this "No Offensive words" policy or anything that hints to it(like acronyms) so they don't have to deal with legal crap of people being "Traumatized" and "Humiliated" for having such a plates (Bull I say!).

Though this story gave me a few giggles...

W T F could mean anything, its just another normal frigging acronym... people who get offended by this sort of stuff need an industrial strength reality enema.

Yeah. I wonder what the World Trade Federation thinks of this?

Indeed, but one person doesn't like it, so the hell with it right?  Pretty sure that's how things usually are lately in our country...41.gif

Oh yeah, next thing you know W-T-H will be recalled too...

I'm sick of this "you can't even remotely hint towards that word" crap lately.  Like, I said freaking in class once, and the teacher threatened me with a referal saying "you know what it sounds like, boy".  Gotta agree with El Burro, if that offends you then...

^OMGZ!!! How dare you use that ...WTH language in front of me!?!?!?!32.gifI'm suing yoo for 3 posts and your avatar!!!

It's like this:

"Hey, everybody, because of my beliefs, I have taken rights away from myself and because I'm always right I don't think anyone else should do more than I can!"

What about the ones with drug abbreviation...like PCP-186 or LSD-ROX or GHB-794? 3.gif You know some kid's mom is gonna freak about that...

Or things like YOU-SUK or ALL-DIE or YUR-FAT or junk like that, there's always the kid who gets custom plates...21.gif

I think these people have better things to do than sit around going

"ZOMG THE PL8 SAY PRESIDENTS MIDDLE INITIAL, GOLF DEVICE, 6TH LETTER OF ENGLISH ALPHABET!!!!!!"

But just my opinion. They can't really control this, like Easy Bakes said it would have gone away had the uber hax super smarty DMV people caught it.

Actually most letter combinations that might even be remotely offensive get filtered out automatically by the system that makes the combinations. Its strange WT(F) got through, the system may need updating.

Don't underestimate just how conservative and prudish the US government can get...

As for the ST text filter, I find it insulting personally. You know most forums I go on tend to only worry about profanity when it's used in an argumentative or offensive way, and don't usually treat their users like junior high students unless they deserve it

The first thing I thought of was all of the taxis in GTA IV with "WT(F)?" printed on those signs on their roofs lol.  What a nerd...

LOL, that reminds me of when me and a couple of friends were screwing around on the apple website.  We were going to see if they let you engrave "*****" into the back of an ipod Classic, but sure enough...

Well, there are ways around the language filter.
