i'm thinking about upgrading my laptop

i'm wondering if anyone knows what  the system  will be for Cities XL

i can imagine they will be more than the average laptop can handle,

and much more than my current laptop can handle

it struggles to play SC4,

shared graphics are the worst invention ever

The creators are still deciding on system requirements. They want as much people as possible to play Cities XL.

Yeah... The problem is that if you have a laptop with a good videocard it's usually heavy, hot, and has a low battery life. So it looks like you are in a hole no matter what =/...

I'm going to have to buy a new computer to play Cities XL. SimCity 4 is painful enough. It takes forever for my cities to load. As much as i want too control every single bit of detail in my cities in Cities XL, i think that we'll need super computers just to get the game to start.

From what I can tell from the trailer, you'll need at the very least an nVidia 7500 class or ATI x1550 class video card to at least run it. In terms of CPU, a 1.8GHz AMD Athlon 64 or equivalent cpu should do just fine. 1GB of ram is minimum, 2gigs is good, but if possible 4gigs or RAM will serve you well. That's what I can tell so far. Remember to correct me when the official requirements come out.

This should help those who are confused with graphics cards:

Ta-Da!!!

Since the X1550 wasn't found by me, use the x1300Pro as a reference.  It will give a pretty accurate result.

First off OMG guinea I <3 you!

Second, I've actually been searching for the same thing. I found a notebook at Bestbuy that I am almost certian will play CitiesXL, it has a GeForce 9700GT.

I was not able to fix the broken link but here is the actual url: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php

Like I said; an X1550 should be (what I think) the bare minimum to run the game at a TOLERABLE framerate. Im not limiting your options only to AMD/ATI, I only state what I know.

i may seem a little slow here, but how do you find what video card you have and is it free to upgrade?

1. Go to

Contol Panel > Display > Settings

The name of your card should be under display, like this (the bit circled in red)

display1.jpg

2. No. Its costs money to upgrade your card... and depending on what card you have, it could be anything from £30 ($60) to a few £1000 (or $'s). I wouldn't recommend upgrading yourself if your new to this, because there are a few factors to take into consideration before buying a card.

will that work?quote>

Well, depending on the amount you can tweak the graphics and how stable the engine is, I very much doubt it. I'd say you have the bare minimum Graphics and RAM, but that CPU is never going to cut it...15.gif

    BarbulaM1 <3 you too

    haha

And as for the 'upgrading' my laptop idea, that went out the window when the thing started smoking the other day

motherboard has bunt out i think as it gets far too hot

words of advice NEVER use a laptop in bed

so im looking for a new computer now im thinking of moving away from the laptop idea as i figued out i can connect a PC to my lcd tv which will be much better

especially since its HD, the game i imagine wont be in HD but that 1:25000 contrast ratio will make it so much sweeter to play

After looking on the CXL forum, it appears to be too early to give a clear indication of what the Min specs will be... but somebody pointed out over on the forums that Monte Cristo are trying to make it possible to run smoothly on older computers too. So most people without a relic of a PC may have a chance of playing this game... albeit, on poor quality graphics.

I have a job now anyway, so I'll be saving something to buy myself a new PC tower for when the game arrives! 9.gif

    I have a Dell Dimension 3000

    2GB RAM

NIVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 or Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller

It runs my Sims 2 good, and Simcity 4 works like a charm, no lag or nothing. Will it run Cities XL? (what if i put the settings at low, medium, high)?

    I have Custom PC

XFX 780i Tri-SLI Motherboard, 4 GB Sli-Ready ram, Q6600 Go Processor, XFX Geforce 8800GT Extreme.

Upgrading the graphics card to an XFX GTX 280 in October (get paid 3 times that month) just to surpass Cities XL Requirements.

Computers + modern gaming = lots of money. All the time games are getting better graphics and improving, but do they ever think about the customers? Maybe we dont have enough money to upgrade the graphics card. This is what I like about Cities XL. They're thinking about the gamers and what we want.

I decided to get a XFX 8800 GTX since it was for $180 at FRYs. I get another XFX 8800 GTX to run SLi after I buy a 1000 watt PSU. Pretty good for a card that used to be $500-$600.

I guess if you can run Crysis on high details, then Cities XL won't be a problem.

I wonder what the spec of Cities XL will be. I might as well buy another XFX 8800 GTX just to gain more FPS.

I hope they build a 64bit version. And before anyone rants and raves about being no benifit to 64bit etc. A 32bit program can only access a maximum of 2048MB RAM. A 64bit app can use terabytes worth of ram. These days (i work with coputers) memory prices are dropping so much its not uncommen to find 4Gb+ systems, and over the last few months I have been setting up 64Bit Vista and I must say it is very solid and stable. Taking full advantage of a 64bit vista multi proccessor system will be great.

I do find it very anoying how most game developers try to make the game run on whats popular without giving the game the ability to improve on us hardcore guys with massive rigs. SC4 for example runs ok on an average system runs great on a Core 2 3GbRAM system, but thats it. thats the ceiling. It won't fully utilise more than 2Gb RAM due to being 32bit and does not utilise a quad or 6 core system.

I have a Quad 4, 8Gb's Ram on a 64 bit Vista, with a core optimizer. My gaming score is at a 5.6 ( computer rating ) So I don't think thats the ceiling friend. I also threw away my old Sim City Deluxe and bought the BOX SET....It's Vista compatible...

I have 2,100mb's of downloaded material so far. My game loads in 15 seconds, my saves are immediate.

Oh, and I also read the read me's to downloading. I removed all the zip files that were extracted and burned them to a CD-R. ( There are only DAT files in my plug-ins. I also keep the zips in a folder on my desktop for reassurance.

I only crash when I zoom out too quickly with my mouse pointer holding onto a landmark...Dunno why that is.
