*shoots post bug with zat gun*

I think it takes 6 hits to kill...

Anyway, there have indeed been a lot of changes... like the Bugg invasions, as well as help from other sources, but I won't say just who helped, so it's a surprise for when you find it.

Is there a Cliffnotes version of what went down? Because that is A LOT of pages I missed...quote>

Yeah... basically the kitties sailed off from Schulmania in their wooden boats, and found a new modern country with all sorts of new technology. Unfortunately the new land was infested with nasty bugs who decided that the peaceful kitties where a 'threat' so they locked them up in an infestation center. Some of them escaped back to Schulmania, but then the bugs from Queensferry decided to invade Schulmania, and have been slowly advancing on the relatively defenseless and woefully technically disadvantaged Schulmania.

So far the eastern shores of Schulmania have taken quite a heavy toll and Queensferry is occupying some of the eastern islands and eastern coast.

How Schulmania will stop this insectoid invasion is well... anyones guess.

Did I miss anything else Leechy?

Huh, apparently 6 hits isn't enough... maybe 7? Edit: Yes, it apparently is.

Leechy? Well, that seems to be the basics at least on the invasion side of the story, at least. And one can join the Schulmania military to help defeat the evil Buggs as well.

Well, sign me up! Are you selling war bonds, too? I may have been gone a while, but I seem to remember captaining a ship sometime before the encounter with the bugs. I may be able to loan some Defenders, if we can whip up a wormhole or cause a paradox, or something... That may be more Zelgadis' style, though.

    REPLIES-DEC10-HEADER.jpg

Hester I am working on taming the savage Wintel Beast...

Abcvs I shall give it a go...

Leech10 More is on the way... esp. since my graphic woes are nearing an end...

Nathanthemayor I used Windows Movie Maker, a suggestion given by fellow ST member jrnavid. Then you can add some effects and a soundtrack and you're in business!

The Duke Those nasty, nasty bugs. We will defeat them... one day.

Wiecher Do bugs count in the tally?

jim 546 I am sure it will be a while... after all, automobiles usually take our citizens to the dreaded v-e-t...so they will not be a favored mode of transit.

    Hester You betcha!

Leech10 Thanks. She has no diagnosis for the refusal to eat or drink but the appetite stimulant seems to keep that in check.

Leech10 I did redo the config bitmap and created 4 duplicate regions until I could get a space to try and restore the missing tile.

    Larks2242 Of course!

Jakehh Gave that a try too. And copied it over from the old drive and it created new holes when I tried to import it.

lucky7 Luckily, the damage is not too severe and thanks to ST members I have eliminated most of the weirdo graphical issues. I am using software rendering instead of hardware, which is slower but it makes SC4 happier. And I am running in XP/SP3 compatibility mode with it in Win7 and it seems to be happier as well. I was getting a real freakshow for a while when loading... the intro splash screen had in game music going and alternated between the splash screen and region view before fading to black. Just plain weird.

Leech10 Harar Tile B-1, comprising the NW coast of Huddleston Bay.

Dumanios Schulmania proper is doing OK, but I have to nip this in the bud before more corruption occurs.

Sgt Pepper Thanks. We're getting better by the day.

wwetom1 I am curious about your system specs... maybe you have something set up differently which may be of help to me.

Sirron Kcuhc I am sure SC4 likes XP best since they are contemporaries. My brother suggested that if EA simply updated the game's drivers and a few capacities and repackaged it they'd make money from many of us who would upgrade. I bet he's right too.

kakado_to_save Vista is the New Coke of operating systems.

jim 546 The compatibility mode is helping some. I think the software rendering has been a big help as well. Things are now looking better, but I still have some unfortunate artifacts to deal with.

Leech10 Things are more stable for the moment, but I still have a sliver missing in the map and am not sure if I can get it back.

Nathanthemayor The non-roadless city is from one of my pre-Schulmania regions. I use it to try out stuff and also when I just want to see traffic and big buildings. It's sort of the Schul Sandbox. This region has been in a few Schulmania updates featuring views of the future as well.

NMUSpidey O..... M...... G...... The Man.... The Legend.... The Spidey! He returns!

Abcvs Swinging from building to building on webs, no doubt!

    spiderman1.jpeg

Leech10 I have another one too...

    66220c94.jpg

This one I did not paint, but it was for sale at the furniture store. If the price would have been about 75% off, I would have gotten it. It's the perfect Schulmania portrait!

NMUSpidey Indeed! You have a lot to study for your semester exam in Schulmology.

Leech10 Indeed... a lot has been going on here.

Abcvs I think that covers the highlights pretty well.

Leech10 True... applications for the military are still accepted.

jim 546 I do need to do a roster update. I will have that up before long.

NMUSpidey Wanna join? Apply here: http://www.schulmania.info/military_files/careers.htm

Larks2242 Oh yes, we still have one here in Schulmania and it is as potent as ever.

NMUSpidey I think it was up to about 12 in Volume 1 before the slow load time and massive PFB led to Volume 2.

To all: Good news! The crisis is nearly over! Graphics bugs are down, loading is smoother and I am nearly able to restore the missing tile as it was. The only problem I am seeing now is that any tile I open will run fine but when I exit to region view; it is missing a sliver off of the bottom. Anyone seen that one before?

    Schulmanator Salvation

    Map Restoration Party!

    (Not Starring Christian Bale)

Thanks to a great deal of technical support from FCapt Splunt and various ST members in the Technical thread, Schulmania has been completely healed from its recent bout with Windows! The only lingering issue is the missing plug ins. And I will tend to that soon enough. So, to celebrate the salvation of the region, I am offering a new map. And it is indeed a rare day when I do so, as this is only the 33rd map ever made for Schulmania (and some of those are variants of one another). The map shows the area where the missing tile was located and I have identified some of the towns shown in recent updates. An added bonus is that it incorporates Harar, thus being the first map to shown the region added to the south of Schulmania.

The offending tile was Harar B-1, which is indicated on the map. Added to the map are several sites of interest. You see the first view of Huddleston Bay and several sites in Harar, including a future update site. Several of the recent Schulmania update sites can be seen as well, including Trixie Port, Stovokor, and Sunbright. One city not yet finished is shown as unreleased and a future update area is west of Schulmanukau at the national park site on the Wirdleonia River. One can also see the Schulmappalachian Mountains, high peaks whose ridgeline now serves as the land border between Schulmania and Harar. An interesting side note: west of the offending tile, off the map, is the location of Schulmauckland. You can read about Schulmauckland in its own thread in the original CJ Forum area (https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=107525&enterthread=y ).

Please enjoy this rare treat of an updated map. If you're good boys and girls, I will make maps more frequently. So, keep your SimHalos on!

Sgt Pepper I am very thankful it got resolved without bloodshed!

    Larks2242 Yep!

Hester Yep... glad to have our multilegged webslinger back in action!

NMUSpidey You will be added to the next roster and your position and rank will suit your request... and having over 100 posts here, you will be an officer.

Nathanthemayor Thankfully I did, with a lot of help.

NMUSpidey Really? When I had Vista it did an awful job, especially after the various service packs.

Benedict Woo hoo! Thanks. I could use some good news.

    Leech10 I know... odd, isn't it?

Nathanthemayor That's because, in the Schulmania tradition, undiscovered land is left as green empty space until it has been explored. I have about 36 tiles to go...

NMUSpidey In case you were wondering about where the name came from, it is from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailchaser%27s_Song

wwetom1 Woo hoo! I am so glad to be over all of that!

9988 Indeed. But this Harar comes from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailchaser%27s_Song . There is a little RL overlap...

Now that the drama is behind us... new stuff coming soon!

    East Tenne: The Great Outdoors

Roane-Anderson, the capital of Tenne, is both a large city and a haven for outdoors enthusiasts. As is typical with feline construction, compact cities feature plenty of outdoor spaces suitable for sunning, pouncing, and other feline activities. In Roane-Anderson, the standard for outdoor activities has been raised to a new high. From the upscale Grove Center development, featuring manicured green space and a glass conservatory, to an expansive riverfront park on both shores, Roane-Anderson inspires the city dwelling feline.

Our first stop is tony Grove Center. The grove the development is named for is a stand of exotic palm trees in a glass conservatory. Residents and business patrons enjoy access to the conservatory, the first of its kind in Schulmania, as well as lovely, manicured grounds linking the development with internal pathways through the great outdoors.

    GroveCenter1.jpg

Midrise residential and commercial spaces surround the central park and conservatory.

    GroveCenter2.jpg

The conservatory can be seen behind Bissell Park Apartments.

    GroveCenter3.jpg

Charming plantings and pleasant walkways link this mixed use development. The centerpiece is the conservatory, which anchors the west side of the internal space.

    grovecenter4.jpg

The park's landscaping was designed by famed horticulturist Mr. Greenjeans. Do you like his work?

Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of open space in this city is the most ambitious urban park to date. This massive greenscape graces both banks of the Wirdle River right in the heart of town, nestled between the two main bridges and their connector streets. The south bank has an extra section facing the river near the government quarter. The two sides have different amenities but are part of the same park system. The collective area is known as Carbide Park, after the noteworthy deposits of valuable (and unspecified) organic compounds found and extracted during the city's construction. Organic compounds can be useful in many applications. I am curious to see what Schulminion scientists will do with these.

    ra-park1-1.jpg

The centerpiece of the park, on the north bank, is the massive Wildcat Den, a light-filled civic center and meeting space with lush surroundings and a killer view.

    ra-park2.jpg

Expertly designed and maintained grounds flow from this spot in all directions. As one strolls along the meandering paths, plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sunshine or pounce on something moving await the visitor at every turn.

    ra-park3.jpg

The Wildcat Den serves both as a meeting space and as the city's welcome center. Now, this is what I call Tenne hospitality!

    ra-park4.jpg

The secluded Cloisters of St. Morris of the Nine Lives ("Cloisters" for short) offers a tranquil respite from one's cares surrounded by its lovely stone walls. The central fountain drowns out the sounds of all of your worries. Come and relax.

    ra-park5.jpg

A wider perspective shows most of Carbide Park, as viewed from the north.

    ra-park6.jpg

A closer view of the south side of the park. The side is dominated by a central plaza of pools and fountains, crowned with a marble statue of the Supreme Wirdle in her chariot designed by Augustus St. Pawdens, sculptor of the pediment of the Tenne capitol and noted bas relief sculptor.

    ra-park7.jpg

The park space spills over to the east toward the government quarter and west to some other fabulous amenities.

    ra-park8.jpg

Across the street via a pedestrian walkway, one can access the Brown House Marketplace (note there is no brown house, but, whatever...) and the charming Penelope Minerva Museum of Natural History.

    ra-park9.jpg

Scenic vistas abound on the larger south side of the park.

    ra-park10.jpg

    musicat4.jpg

An added feature is outdoor performing space. The Roane-Anderson Symphony has Pops in the Park here every summer.

    ra-park11.jpg

It is a very popular destination. See the crowd admiring the Wirdle's statue...

    ra-park12.jpg

I forgot to mention by the Brown House Market and the museum is a lovely equestrian statue of Chancellor Mooky. His heroic charges against the Queensferry forces at Cape Eastway have become inspirational legends in the feline world.

    ra-park13.jpg

I envy those who live and work next to this magnificent public space.
