so i have been very interested in other countries since deciding to do some study abroad program in college. so i was wondering what some slang terms are in other countries. ok, so i thought this was going to be a "game", but i guess not. this is going good though. if someone would like to change the forum, that'd be ok. just pm me about it. keep it up people!

Well, since we've already got the obligatory "In Russia" joke out of the way.....

In Derkaderkaderkistan, we say "Derka derka derk jihad".

And no one knows what the hell it means. It's gibberish.

Actually, I'd say it's more like "Auuggghhh! It's a terrorist! Shoot him!"

Or, perhaps "Oh my god, he's taking pictures! Quick, call the cops! He might be a terrorist scoping out potential targets!"

Didn't anyone ever tell you "these colors don't run"?21.gif

Right you are. 3.gif

Of course we don't run: we'd never pass up a great opportunity to continue our legacy of being the country who goes into another country if there's the slightest 'problem' with how it's run.....coughIraqKoreaVietnamCubaetc.cough

Rather than spend hours translating my utterly stupid fellow Schuylkill Countians' language, I will simply refer you all to a web page with a lot of translations.

http://www.coalregion.com/Speak/speakA.htm

http://www.coalregion.com has a lot of other interesting information about this area.  I would love to thank the creator of the dictionary for allowing me to converse semi-fluently with my friends and neighbors.

Personally, I rate the site as PG-13, but according to the movie industry, it's just a PG.

Also, if you would like to visit us, there is a Quality Inn in Pottsville and an Econo Lodge in Frackville.  Those are the only hotel chains I know of in Schuylkill county itself.  Reading to the south; Hazleton to the north; Allentown to the east and Harrisburg to the south-west are the best bets to find quality hotels.

Yes it is. If you use Google Maps, search for Pottsville, PA. It can be considered the center of coal country.  Pottsville is home to D. G. Yuengling and Sons, oldest brewery in (U. S. of)America.

In Hawaii, we say "da kine" ("the kind").

It is used in the sense of "this kind" and "that kind":

    - Eh, brah, you know da kine?

    - Wot kine?

    - Dis kine. Not da odda kine.

    - Dat kine?

    - Yeah, da kine!

It is also usually used in place of nouns as a way of referencing them without explicitly saying them. "Eh, first put dishsoap in the da kine," indicates that da kine likely is the dishwasher. Or, "eh, first put da kine in da dishwasher," suggests that da kine is likely the dishsoap, though the context of the immediate situation determines whether they actually mean the dishsoap instead of the dishes. Verbs can also be replaced and referenced by da kine, and you can have multiple understood references, hence: "eh, first da kine dishsoap in da kine," or even, "eh, first da kine da kine in da kine."
