This CJ is based on the landform Long Beach .

Here is my folder of plugins (1.01):

plugins2wc.jpg

I'm using NO cheats and playing the game on HARD.

Here are the three region maps I have so far (1.02, 1.03, 1.04):

regionsatellite7yy.th.jpg alt=Free Imageregiontraffic3wg.th.jpg alt=Free Image Hcities3dz.th.jpg alt=Free Image Hosting

Okay, you can see the city names by the last image there. However, as you know, SC4 makes cities on tiles that are square, and those cities are not square.

So, in many cases one city is on two tiles, or two cities (or more) are on one tile.

So, we'll create terminology: a 'city' is a space I have outlined in red above, a 'tile' is an SC4 city.

Alright, that said, I have three tiles I'd like to showcase today: Nimbus Bay, Lorea, and Cloudclaw Bay. I will organize them this way: first I'll show the landform, then the traffic, then the 'census' so to speak, then four images from the tile itself. Let's start with Nimbus Bay!

Here is the vital information for the Nimbus Bay tile (1.05, 1.06, 1.07):

nblandform1lt.jpg

nbtraffic8id.jpg

nbcensus2or.jpg

Here are pictures from the city of Nimbus Bay, downtown. The first is just a downtown shot, the second is downtown along the shore, and the third is the residential area of downtown (1.08, 1.09, 1.10).

nbdowntown6kl.jpg

nbdowntownshore7fy.jpg

nbdowntownresidences1mq.jpg

And finally, while we're on the tile of Nimbus Bay, I'll show a picture of downtown Wapeng (1.11).

nbwapeng0vu.jpg

Okay, now on to the Lorea tile. Once again, the vital information (1.12, 1.13, 1.14):

llandform8vy.jpg

ltraffic3qa.jpg

lcensus0lc.jpg

Now, the only city on the Lorea tile is Lorea... so no need to worry about confusing people there. 2.gif Here are some shots of downtown, the first is the center of downtown and the second is a portion at night (1.15, 1.16).

ldowntowncenter0sn.jpg

ldowntownnight0dt.jpg

Two more images... the first is the Lorea University area, and the second is a portion of the mid-rise residential area (1.17, 1.18 ).

luniversity6ve.jpg

lwindystreets0we.jpg

Okay, finally we have the tile of Cloudclaw Bay. First, the vital information (1.19, 1.20, 1.21):

cblandform0ff.jpg

cbtraffic0wp.jpg

cbcensus8iq.jpg

Next, we have pictures of the downtown of the city of Cloudclaw Bay... wow, that was a lot of 'of's... The first is residences downtown, and the second is downtown at night (1.22, 1.23).

cbdowntownresidences0ro.jpg

cbdowntownnight1hf.jpg

Next, we have a small portion of the city of Allus (1.24).

cballus8je.jpg

Finally, we have a portion of the city of Norte (1.25).

cbnorthsuburb3bl.jpg

Okay, that's all for the first chapter. Here's the population information so far:

Residents: 351208
Commerce: 152384
Industry: 71400

I'd like to thank all the people at SimTropolis. Without you, none of this would be possible, as I'd have been bored of SC4 long ago.

I'd especially like to thank the Mapp Squad, Jeroni, and the makers of all the mods I'm using, as well as those I'm not 29.gif.

Thanks for reading this first update, and...

Questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions are always welcome!

You have some seriously bad traffic near downtown. But on the good side, the pics you showed look good.44.gif39.gif

This looks like a CJ to keep track of... [hits Subscribe button]

Can't wait to see more... especially some closeups of that diagonal grid in your downtown.

Awesome, I like the incorporation of residential towers into downtown, very realistic.

I never would have thought of seeing a large city on the site of a real world ghost town, or an old oyster port.2.gif Good work.

PS: I'll get around to using that map one of these days.

Hey, Mallow

Just curious, how did you extract this image from the .sc4?

nblandform1lt.jpg

Great start, by the way.

    Wow, lots of replies!

Okay, let's go one by one:

    sloppet: Thanks!

ron01_000_000: Thanks! I'll try to get those city ordinance screens for you.

    RadioheadFan: Thanks!

Dutchdragon: Yep... hard! I decided to do that because it's more fun with a challenge. But... if you can get high mass transit usage, then it's hard NOT to make too much money. 19.gif Thanks!

screamomatic: Thanks! I'm going to try to resolve the traffic by switching the regular roads to one-way roads. I already have bus service, subway service and a monorail serving that area... you would think they wouldn't be congesting the roads so much... 31.gif

tijn21: Thanks! The monthly balance is because, as I said up there ^ , lots of mass transit equals a good budget... if you have a WHOLE bunch of usage.

oroen: Yep, tilted grids!!! They were fun to make and even more fun to look at. Thanks!

meinhosen: Thanks! I'll try to get some pictures of that diagonal grid, though it's just low to mid rise commerce.

    andrew george: Thanks!

Fairlane500: Thanks! Yep, I love that map. It has so many terrain features... I think the only thing that's lacking is a (major) river, but EVERYBODY has a river, so why not be different 2.gif.

flamesrock: Thanks! That's actually just a city map picture (the same as a traffic map), just with the All Off button selected. I just took a 'snapshot' and then cropped the image.

    jacqulina: Thanks!

    aasim45: Thanks!

Okay, that's everybody. I think I'll have another update later today. 19.gif

Thanks again for all your support!

    Dear Mallow:

I like your approach to journaling, especially the peek under the hood at your budget.

Things I'd like you to elaborate on:

    --those tilted grids

--your tax rates: flat or varied? 42.gif

--nuts and bolts of your mass transit; how do you keep it in the black?

--No neighbor deals? Interesting. So your tiles are self-sufficient? Show us how you do it--looking forward to it! 44.gif

    Hi everybody!

Sorry I'm late. I really should have gotten to this yesterday.

Anyhow, time for some responses first:

    newyorkrunaway1: Thanks!

kingofsimcity: Thanks! I like the BRF slope mod more, personally... 2.gif The CSX one actually gives a less gentle slope... but it is easier to use.

JoeTheMailman: Thanks! I will show all of those in this update.

jacqulina: Fear not! More is coming.

This update is really just fulfilling requests from people who would like to see more about how I am playing the game. I took all but one piece of information from just one tile (Cloudclaw Bay). The first pic is showing an example of how I did tilted grids. There are almost infinite ways to do tilted grids, these are just two (this is the only pic taken from the Lorea tile):

    ltiltedgrids9ii.jpg

Okay, now that we've gotten that out of the way, the rest of the pics and info are from the Cloudclaw Bay tile. First, I'll show the ordinances:

    cbordinances14yd.jpg

    cbordinances26oo.jpg

Next, the mass transit usage (the reason I am making so much money in the transit column):

    cbtraffic0em.jpg

Next, we have an improvement I made downtown. Before, the roads were regular roads, but I switched them to one-way roads:

    cbroads5gp.jpg

    cbcongestionbefore4fj.jpg

    cboneway1rx.jpg

    cbcongestionafter2au.jpg

Here's the subway system (the red streak you still see on my congestion map):

    cbsubway1by.jpg

Okay then, here's that diagonal grid to the southeast of downtown... it's mostly low-rise businesses:

    cbdiagonalgrid7yu.jpg

I use a (mostly) flat tax system... so far. That will change if I feel the need to. I keep the dirty industry on another map:

    cbtaxes0zh.jpg

Finally, how does my city stay self sufficient utility-wise? This is how:

    cbpower8eu.jpg

    cbrecycling4wv.jpg

    cbwater2wy.jpg

Here's the population information so far:

    Residents: 357638
    Commerce: 147605
    Industry: 71292

Yay! That was today's update. The next one will actually involve new development, as well as more interesting information on the current cities.

Thanks for reading this update, and...

Great, another CJ. It's very basic, but I like it. I particularly like the map (you guys from the mapp squad do a great job anyway) and that interesting road layout.

    Keep it up.

10.gifHate to live near that dirty zone you got there... even if it is by the corner! lol

    Hi all!

    Let's start with some responses:

    theblademaster: Thanks!

    jacqulina: Thanks!

    PhilsCafe: Thanks!

nealos101: Thanks! I'll show a pic of the area near the power plants... showing that nobody has to live nearby 2.gif.

captain_cookie: Thanks! Harry Potter? Where? I didn't know I put something in there relating to that...

Okay then, time for an update!

Let's start with a new tile: Yuki Strait. Here's the vital information on the city of Yuki:

    ylandform8rt.jpg

    ytraffic8cl.jpg

    ycensus0xc.jpg

Okay then. Next, here's why the power plants and incinerators don't affect my cities too much:

    cbutilities6mj.jpg

Here's a regionwide shot of progress thus far:

    satellite3af.th.jpg alt=Free Image Hostitransportation4ea.th.jpg alt=Free Image

And finally, here are some city shots! Ya know, the ones you've been asking for... these are centered on the downtown area of each city.

A town on Long Island, tsk tsk tsk.3.gif

Awesome town overviews there, I especially like the layout of Wapeng, seems just like a city with a residential tower development.
