Weather Mod

Ok my attempt at a weather mod is complete, this version only has rain at the moment because I don't want to waste a ton of time on this if to many people cant really use it due to the games cpu usage.

It's available at my website in the miscellaneous mods section.

 

Make sure you read the readme file.

The effect is random, make any comments about the mod here or at my website in the mods forum, no requests, because I'm not taking any for this mod. If you don't like the mod or can't use it because your computer is to old / slow, I'm sorry.

Most excellent. I already downloaded it. I have an Athlon64 3500+ and will post my experiences.

EDIT: Ran flawlessly in my test city of 100 sims. The rain sound effects were kinda muted, dull, and short, but overall it worked.

Hmm I see this mod has over 130 downloads and this thread has over 216 views yet  hardly any comments, some more comments would be nice. I've spent over a year on this mod and it seems  to me that I wasted all that time on this due to the lack of comments.

seeing a ton of views and almost no comments is pretty frustrating. just remember that a lot of people may have not really have anything worth saying, it's already been said, or they're too lazy to say it. your work in modding is appreciated by a lot of people, even if not many people say it.

To those people who don't see the rain, it just randomly happens after you place the lot and after Jan 1st, also you cant play the game on any speed but slow, otherwise the effect starts and ends before it can  happen, just play the game normally and you will see it.

Well it works and looks great not a bad compermize between running the game and graphics .

  but it seams to get better results when you plop more then one plant .I ploped 1 and only got sound effects once in a year slow play sim time .But when I ploped five the rain came much more offton about ever other month with the inbetween month being cloudy with sound effects .

   So Going to try modding the mod and see .If not ill try resizing the lot smaller so as to be able to plop a few . Ps Gizmo you have added So much to this game enjoy your suces you earned it

I love the looks of this modd. The clouds look perfect considering game limitations, and you are most definately one of the best modders to ever work on this game.

Also, you might want to base the acceptance of this modd on the # of downloads, not the number of comments you get for it. I have made several city journals and comment in almost every one, so I am used to having about 1% of the thread viewers actually leave a comment.

To raise this modds publicity, you might want to add a link to this thread in your sig, or even better, you could upload the modd to the STEX. You will get much more dls and comments if it is on the STEX, but if you don't want to you don't have to.

You cant just add more effects to the lot or plop more, because eventually it would rain all the time, and yes I chose to balance the graphics with game play. Only way to make it look more fuller would be for me to edit the appropiate hex code in the effect dir. This is something you can't mod unless you know the hex code for the mod, and the bigger the clouds the slower the game gets.

I like the modd very much, gizmo. It does slow down my computer a bit, but the cinematics are pretty cool.

I look forward to seeing some innovative uses of this modd in CJs. In fact, I might have a use for it up my sleeve...

I tried it out on my laptop last night and I must say I like this Rain Mod you made. I felt the $10,000 price tag on the lot that was included was a bit much, so I made a couple of lots that look like some of the game's parks. I currently working on making some self-powered lots that do not need a budget slider to work....
