Great work you're doing here.

I have some suggestions for highway-connections and interchanges:

p.jpeg
^ For diagonal-orthogonal.

p.jpeg
^ Alternative for the current triple junction.

p.jpeg
^ For highway-highway of avenue-highway.

p.jpeg
^ For highway on and offramps. Common design, comes in handy when there is no space on one side of the junction.

p.jpeg
^ And a roundabout. A big one for avenue-avenue, en maybe a smaller for road-road.

I would love to see roundabouts in the game. (3x3 and/or 5x5)

A pedestrian mall is certainly something I would like to see in the game.
Footbridges, I thought they were already made by someone but cannot find them on the STEX so perhaps not.

A small road-road roundabout might even fit on one tile.

Any roundabouts, assuming you want them like this
|
-O-
|

Would have to be an odd number of tiles.

Even numbers would produce an off center wierd roundabout.

EDIT: I missed the post where the guy basically said this, so, <:-|

uhm...

Of course it's best to use an odd number of tiles. That's why 5x5, 3x3 and 1x1 (one tile) are all odd.

Roundabouts like this:
|
O--
|
would also be nice.

@Andreas Roth;
hhmm...that is a very odd problem you have. There is only one thing that I can think of that mught cause this, but it can't be that because no one else [nor myself] have this happening [& the actual files that would possibly cause this to happen seem to be in order]. So, the only other thing that might be causing this is the Graphics card maybe &/or faulty hardware/software? Best/First thing I can suggest is to try and download the Mod again. It is possible that your installation of RH/Deluxe might be corrupt though.; if it is you may need to reinstall it. Otherwise I'm at a loss 42.gif. I'll see if I can't pintpoint any problems with it though, but I doubt I will.

quote>

I downloaded the mod again and installed it also on my notebook - the problem remains. Maybe it's because I have to use the software mode, my notebook has a Silicon Motion graphics chip and my desktop is running a Matrox Millennium G450. I don't have any other graphics problems, so I'm lost, too. Anyway, I don't use elevated highways very often, so it's no big deal I can't use the new cloverleaf.

As for the icons, I made well over 100 of them for my own lots and downloads from others, so just ask if you need more. I made the frame a tad lighter than the original Maxis icons for better distinction, but otherwise, they look nearly the same.

Oh, and yes, please make some roundabouts! 19.gif

Andreas Roth, I have the same exact problem with that highway! No textures! Just that red, blue and whatever goodness... didn't want to post it at first, because Tropod didn't seem like he wanted any problems with it or something (Not to mention I already had him help me with a very stupid problem of mine. x.x'), but I guess now it's ok.... But, yea, I have the same problem. I could get my graphics card info to compare with Andreas Roth's, that is, if I knew how to get that info. x.x

So it seems there is a problem with the new cloverleaf...

@Pkmnrulz240: Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and choose Properties. On the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager. You should see a list with your installed hardware on the left. Expand the graphics card entry with a click on the + and look what card is installed.

I also made the two missing icons for the cloverleaf and the single onramps. For the first item, I had to use a screenshot posted in this thread, so it's a bit blurry. If someone can send me a better pic (maybe as PNG) captured in zoom level 4 (press 4 on the keyboard), I can make a better one (send it to andreas@simszone.de ).

Who'd like Pedestrian Malls, &/or also Pedestrian Footbridges [these would be for land only-though Ped Footbridges for water *may* be do-able]?

quote>

Pedestrian areas would be great, but don't seem to develop. I did some experimenting with the ANT, modified it so only pedestrians will use it (actually they love it, as they can walk a little faster on them then on streets/roads:). However, no buildings develop on an ANT. Just look at this commercial zoning:
sn_ant_experiment1.jpg

Only the lots with their front to the street do develop, ANT-oriented lots never seem to develop (there is quite enough demand in this city).

I'd like to use them as bicycle lanes (hence the higher pedestrian speed). With some nice textures to make it look like this:

Sometimes when place files into your plug-in folders if your not careful it might go into another sub-folder and could be forgotten about. Try doing a search for on your computer for .dat files as this happened to me and i found the conflicting traffice files that i had downloaded a while ago. i then deleted those and the problems cleared up. hope this helps.

    EDITED:
    OK:
Those of you with a problem with the New Interchange, I have some good news, and some not so good news; I have been able to replicate the problem.
So, here is what you will need to do in the first instance with a problem like this:

    1. Remove anything, and everything, from BOTH Plugins folders [with the exception of this mod only-and the 5 BackGround Image files] - And for the love of..........I do mean everything, ok? Lots/Bats/ModelsFiles/other mods etc, you name it. The whole lot, take them out [and place them elsewhere temporarily].

    2. With only the Network Mod in the Plugins folder, start up a blank new city, build the New Interchange. By all rights it should work just fine. Then gradually place other files you have [Lots/Bats/etc] back into the Plugins folder, and this should help pin point what file is conflicting with this, and then we can go from there.

If doing this does not work, then we'll have more of an idea of what the problem is.

EDIT: Andreas Roth thanks for the new additional icons2.gif.

I am not really certain exactly what the problem is for those of you who cannot see the textures on the new interchange, but I think that I have an idea.  The first thing that I'd like to know is if you are running in 'hardware' or 'software' graphics mode.

The other thing that I would like for you folks to do is to test out the patch that I've attached to this post.  Just download and unzip into the same directory as the NetworkAddonMod.dat file.  Note that even if this file works, it will not fix the entire interchange.  It will only texture a handfull of the pieces.

Let me know how it works.

If you have an idea as to what lot this is, as you said you know whats doing this, then tell use what it is and dont send us on a wild goose chase. This process would take way to long. my plugin folder is a gig big and this would take several days to really complete. Thanks.

In future, please read what I said more carefully thanks. I never said I knew what is doing this, I said I have a fairly good idea; they're not the same thing. And there would be no way in the world I'd be able to tell you guys what Lot something might be conflicting with. That's like asking someone to count the starts in the sky. 21.gif. In any event, good to hear you got it working.

well, i finally got it. its working fine for me....

what i did was. removed any traffic mod file (not including those with the lots i downloaded) i sorted them by date and found a file that was seconds after a traffic file. it was called something like tr42245xxpl4231.something i originally didnt see it as it wasnt clear as to what it was for. glad i got this taken care of.

ok im ready for the next network file.

o by the way. water tunnels....out of the question or what? something i always wanted since sc2k. nevermind those damn bridges for intersections. you want an crossing without an intersection raise the terrain at that point and boom theres your under-crossing.

and how about a curved puzzle piece. but the curves cant have anything underneath them. also if i put a row of the puzzle pieces with rails underneath would the rail function or what? i live in nyc (queens to be exact) and the A train comes out of the tunnels and goes ontop of liberty avenue. (this avenue is actually a road dont get the name of the road confused, its not a two laner two way, its a single laner two way. wondering if this was at all considered in a future plugin.

The display problem of the new interchange is really caused by the soft graphics mode,I lowered the resolution and chose the hardware mode, the problem did solved

Ok; to those of you who have gone as far as doing this, and still have a problem, I do want to apologise 5.gif.

It seems there has been an unforeseen-able problem occur, something which neither myself nor Redlotus would have been able to know (first hand) [because we don't run the game in Software mode like some of you might; thus we wouldn't know about the problem until it hits you guys].

The good news is, a fix will hopefully be made. Just not right now [it will take some time].

Lol, this modd is so cool! I think you should put highway exit only lanes on your to do list (sorry if this has already been mentioned) because in my hometown there are no exits like the ones in the game. I know you are busy but maybe after awile.... Thanks! BTW, I can't find that new cloverleaf on any of my menus... where is it located?

Right, Tropod, I have made another texture, but I cannot fit it into a 128x128 tile. what shall I do? (There is a way because somebody is making turning lanes)

Edit: Added 'This is the UK version'.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

    @horatius_cheng

Well it seems changing to Hardware mode does also fix the problem. But there does seem to have been a problem with the mod, that has just surfaced [that wasn't previously noticed or made aware of].

    @gambit529;
Water tunnels already exist for the game. There is a particular method in which this needs to be done. Search the forums for that. Has nothing to do with this thread. As for the Puzzle Pieces; if they are placed correctly [as intended-i.e they're lined up properly from one piece to the next], I don't see any reason why either the top portion of the bottom portion of the networks present shouldn't work properly; since no one has reported any bugs with them yet [for the Paths].

Dexter I like that so far, but the arrows just seem too big, and it just doesn't look as good as some of the other stuff in the game, though with some more work I'm sure it'll be great.

SUGGESTION: Half highways!!! I'd think this would be really easy to implement, because the model is already there, you just need to make a version of highway that is like a one-way road. It should connect to normal highways, and could also connect to one way roads. You would have to bring the two half highways together into a normal full highway in order to have interchanges though.

Water tunnels already exist for the game. There is a particular method in which this needs to be done. Search the forums for that. Has nothing to do with this thread. If I don't say so myself, there is a good tutorial at SCC about making underwater tunnels. >here's a link< 9.gif

    Ok; some teasers https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/2.gif src=file:///C:\DOCUME~1\Tropod\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.gif>

The below is not final. Basically I just made this quickly to test out what I was doing.

    Pedestrian only tiles [which will be called Ped Mall Tiles];

AND PLEASE, these are NOT LOTS

    PedMalls.jpg

    And for commerce:

    PedMalls3.jpg

These things are not without their quirks unfortunately.

Basically the way this will work is; any one of those Ped Mall tiles has to be next to a MT Building [such as a BusStop/SubwayStation/TrainStation/etc] in order to be utilised properly; only one of them though, any other Ped Mall Tile(s) connected will work just fine.

Using either of the Query Tools, will display these as being Roads, but only Pedestrian Traffic should only ever appear on them. The reason the Query will display Road for these is a technical one, one I rather not go into. Just know that Ped will only be able to commute along these, and it will have no affect on the rest of the Road network [far as I know; a monthly cost for these though will occur under the Transport department]

Also; it seems the exehttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/26.gif src=file:///C:\DOCUME~1\Tropod\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image004.gif>is at work again, even with this. Any Residential zones that you have in a city, will need to have access to at least one job by road, in order for this to work, otherwise NRZ appear yet again [i would hope though, this won't be a big issue. Why Maxis insisted on making 'R' function like this I don't know].

Residential Zones themself WILL NOT develop directly along side these, if these are placed right in front of their zoning arrow.

These fall under the same category as Puzzle Pieces, and have the same characteristics [i.e DataviewMap overlays won't show for it in the city view; they'll still appear in the DataviewMap itself though, and any Ped Traffic will be counted under the Ped Traffic Graph].

Yeah, half highways would be really cool.  That way we can have medians and stuff like in real life.  Also in real life you have areas where one barrel of the highway can be quite a distance from the other, due to topography, development, etc.

    -Chris

EDIT: Along the same lines, perhaps we could make a rural 2-lane half section, with shoulders instead of the jersey barrier.  Now that would be cool, and I would use it at any cost!
