Only a small island in the Pacific, it was incorporated by the U.S. government in 2009. An excellent trading port between China and the U.S., a city was founded, which would soon become a major one. Welcome to New Los Angeles.

**This is my first (real) CJ. I greatly appreciate constructive criticism and feedback. If you tell me to get more custom content, then I would at least like to know what kind of custom content. Many downloads used; just ask me if you have any questions about them**

1.3 After 1 year, a simple settlement has been established
image0009lf6.jpg

1.4 Docks have been built, but they are mostly inactive at this point. A relatively clean power plant provides power.

1.5 The boatyard and surrounding industry provides many important jobs.

1.6 This area has been flattened for future docks to be built

1.7 Residents here pay much less than usual for these public buildings. They are prepared to move when the industrialized dock needs to expand.

End of update 1. The next update will focus on another year of changes.

Reply (=P): Thanks for the comment! Since I already took the pics for the next update, I might as well post them now.

    UPDATE 2: Year 2

2.1 The first roads have been built. These will provide the future access to South Port from the suburban districts (which are still to be planned and built).

    image0001wb7.jpg

2.2 The docks have been expanded to provide for the expected traffic. The news of available land has hit most major cities in the U.S.

    image0002no3.jpg

2.3 A close-up of the docks. They are becoming more active.

    image0003qc4.jpg

2.4 An area popularly used in post cards. The palm trees are expected to entice residents to move to this island. Imagine a picnic on the beach with palm trees and a beautiful view over the pacific...

    image0005nj9.jpg

2.5 The residents are enjoying it on the island, despite living right next to polluting industry. This is going to change very soon.

    image0006az3.jpg

2.6 Aerial view of the island up to this point. A ferry has been built for future traffic.

Good start! Maybe you can get a water and a terrain modd. That would really make it more realistic!

SIMplMn9: Thanks for the comment. I'll explain later why I chose "New Los Angeles".

therealcdg: Thanks, I am also very pleased with the boatyard area.

Cockatoo-210893: Thanks! I tried the water mod, and I'll see what people think of it.

Ntq$310: I'm looking forward to that too =)

    jacqulina: Thanks!

NMUSpidey: We don't want to offend the natives now, do we? Thanks for the advice.

    s_olah: Thanks!

Schulmanator: Thanks! I've been thinking about the concept for a while, and am glad that I can finally implement it.

bbfan02: Thanks, I've downloaded a terrain AND a water mod, but I want to see what people think of it first.

    nottheboss: Thanks!

The Almighty Cheese Grater: I'll explain later why I chose to name the city "New Los Angeles".

RebaLynnTS: Thanks! I've looked at your project, and I bet I can use it sometime in the future.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________

These are more comments than I expected! Thanks for all the honest and helpful feedback.

    1. The Almighty Cheese Grater brought up a good point. Why wasn't I more creative with my region naming? First, I want my region to feel like LA. But not just LA, a new LA. My goal is to make this region a beautiful one, while still keeping a Southern-California-ish feel to it.

    2. I have downloaded PEG's Brigantine water mod and Cycledogg's Olympic terrain mod. Before posting a new update I want you to judge the look of these mods (personally I'm not too fond of the Olympic terrain, at least in this setting).

That water is pretty dark, it contrasts strangly to the nice city. What does it look like at night?

    Great start!

I like the water, but don't much care for the landscape mod. It's all personal preference as you see by the posts here so go with what you like and get on with the updates when you're ready.

The Seaport lots can be found at SimPeg.com

Normally I would not comment on weather I like or don't like the water, or terrain, as those are personal choices, but since you asked, the terrain and water are a bit hard to tell apart. The terrain mod does not remind me of the west coast, but more like the mid-west. The water works good for the region you are trying to portray, in my opinion.

Fantastic Start. Just add in more custom content, particularly in the residential areas.

I have to admit, im not a fan of the recycled "new island in the pacific" storyline, but, i will give you a shot.

Jim1994: I will show a regional view in the next update, but not this one.

ac94: Thanks! The seaports are from the Peg CDK3 set; just search on the STEX of go to SimPeg.com (like RebaLynnTS pointed out)

Joetropian1: Yes, the water is quite odd. Sadly, I didn't get any night pics.

nihonkaranws: Thanks, I also quite like the way the sunset came out (still playing around with Photofiltre).

Zarp: Thanks! I changed the water and removed the land mod as you will see.

Ntq$310: Thanks! I hope the new water I chose will feel even more tropical

City Planner: Thanks; I changed the water mod and the terrain mod since I didn't feel like they both went together that well either.

RebaLynnTS: Thanks for pointing out the website. I agree, the water and terrain didn't seem to go together quite well. I am trying to recreate a So-Cal kind of feeling on a tropical island, which is quite a challenge in itself.

NMUSpidey: I am planning on using ploppable beaches later, but thanks for the input.

patriots_1228: Honestly, I am not quite a fan of the idea myself (=/). I have decided to challenge myself to make this something unique, and am glad you are giving it a shot. I will try to find more residential custom content

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HONEST AND HELPFUL FEEDBACK!

    UPDATE 3: ROCKY BEGINNINGS

Another few years have passed, and more changes have occured. The city designers have challenged themselves to convert this island into a Southern California styled region, while still preserving an air of tropic-ness. Can they do it? We shall see...

The market has continued to deteriorate, and by this time (approx. 2013), it is at an all time low. Investors, seeking one last chance at success, have discovered this island as being perfect for investing in. Cheap land, a growing economy, and a beutiful view... At least for the most part.

3.3 The docks have slowly, but surely, expanded

3.4 Here's the boatyard at night.

    southport22may021206312nz3.jpg

3.5 During the day docks don't look too friendly either...

3.6 The road is gaining popularity - one sim at a time

3.7 the road is quite beautiful during the day

Wow! Cool highway! I don't remember ever seeing that mod. The town seems to be growing abnormally. That's what often happens with my cities though.

    Keep it up,
