History:

Rossynth Island was first claimed by England in 1544. But the small settlement on the island soon became a trading post for french pirates. France officialy seized control of the territory in 1596. It remained in french control until 1640 When Austria/Bavaria in an attempt to drain valuable resources from france during the thirty years war invaded the Island then undefended with a small force. France being caught up in the war in europe supported sweden with funds and troops in exhange for them to keep forces in germany and to send a small force to the Island. Although not of strategic importance at the time it was a matter of prestige. However when the small invasion force reached the island they discovered it had already been abandoned and stripped of anything the could help the war effort. After the peace of westphalia in 1648 The Island remained in swedish hands until the dutch captured it from sweden during the northen wars in 1655. Swedens navy being defeated in the baltic could not send any help. The dutch however returned the Island after the war ended in 1660. In 1804 However the Swedish government broke ties with France and during the napoleonic wars the citizens on the Island grew tired of the european politics and decided to govern themselves. In 1815 Rossynth Island was regognized as an autonomus province of France.

Politics/Administration:

The Island is governed according to the Act of Autonomy of Rossynth and international treaties. Theese laws guarantee the Islands autonomy from France, wich has ultimate soveregnity over it, as well as a demilitarized status.

The Island have it's own national flag, stamps and police force. They also operate their own National Airline, (Noir Air).

Economy:

The economy is heavily dominated by shipping, trade tourism and high tech industry. Shipping accounts for almost half of the economy, importing oil, gas and exporting medical technology and advanced electronics. Unemployment is extremely low and the citizens enjoy a well funded welfare system with free healthcare and schools among other benefits.

Demographics:

Most inhabitants have French or English as their first language about 85%, and 10% speak Swedish, The other languages make up about an equal share each.

Here we go..

The easiest way to arrive is by air so lets start the journey as we arrive at Rossynth International Airport.

001.jpg

We arrive on the last flight just before the airport closes down for a short while during the night....

002.jpg

We flew with Lufthansa and arrive at terminal 3 wich is the largest terminal and handles the largest aircrafts.

004a.jpg

The place looks deserted!, That was really the last flight tonight, no kidding.

Nice job! Hope to see more from you soon! However, you should get the latest releases from the Airport Team. That would make it more realistic.

    Thanks everyone!

    Twenty20

It must have something to do with the pirate history... 2.gif

    TRNSTN

The entire region is currently just above 100,000. Port Noir boasts a population of about 80,000. It cant grow much more unless I start cutting into the mountain. It does however sport some skyscrapers that have grown.

Thanks I will check the new Airport Team releases out.

Thanks, Yes nightlihts are not working correctly. I have no idea why the updates dont install correctly they worked on my old computer.. I'm gonna try to move my region to another installation on another computer see if I will have more luck with it.

Thanks, yes I seem to have some issues with the nightlights. Updates refuse to install I'll have to try and fix that later. See answer above 4.gif

I will update tomorrow with some daytime shots and travel into town...

Ok this is a rather long update, hope not too many pictures for you all. I also updated the first teaser pictures since I got the nightlights to work now, Thanks for pointing that out I was beginning to think the stuff I downloaded just didnt have any!. Now Port Noir looks beautiful at night! 4.gif

    005.jpg

It's morning!, lets head into town now. It was hard getting any sleep though I think they built the hotel too close to the airport!

There was a low flying 747 passing overhead I think.

    006.jpg

Let's head out on the main road leading out of the airport. Right away we come across some farm fields...

McDonalds were strategic and built a restaurant close to farms so that meat and vegetables dont have to go very far...

They claim to have the most fresh ingredients of any other McD restaurants...

    007.jpg

We take a right and drive onto RH-1 Its the only highway on the island. Aircity Ave leads into a small community built close to the airport.

It used to be a small rural community but during the economical boom in the early 1960 it's now a small commercial district.

    008.jpg

This is what we are not driving into... You dont wanna go there anyway, it's a silly place.

    009.jpg

Leaving the area getting a last view of some housing an another hotel. To the right we see some more farmfields tucked away behind the trees

    010.jpg

On our way to Port Noir we meet some freight trains heading to the airport with all kinds of weird gadgets for export that you dont really need.

There must be a REALLY strong wind blowing the trains steam forward.. either that or it's reversing....

Yes the locomotives on this island are old except for the new high speed passenger trains

    011.jpg

We see the first houses of Eastern Port Noir!, It's a extremely wealthy city even realestate this close to a noisy railway and highway are expensive and in high demand.

    012.jpg

A short distance later we drive past the new golf and country club. No it's not Tiger mispelled it's really named after the Liger. Napoleon Dynamite can explain...

    013.jpg

Ah yes more rich people.. is this a snooty posh town!?

    014.jpg

The highway entrance to the central parts of town... we see the first signs of civilization.... Fast food!!!!

    015.jpg

A usually very busy intersection, We see some medium density housing now...

    016.jpg

This tunnel leads into the city's core... And yes more rich people homes... what the...

    017.jpg

We arrive on the other side of the tunnel. Above is the residental part of the town called "Scandinavian Rows"

    018.jpg

We come to the city's most busy intersection, Ok it's not rush hour!. Here you can see part of the city's tallest building housing some of the biggest tycoons in the city

We also see the city's tram that hauls people going East,West and South.  Lets take a left down Main St.

Very good! The realism is quite nice, especially in those wealthier suburban areas.

Today let's head down to a late 1950 early 1960's development, Located close to the harbour most of the population here works at the local industries. The area was built in just 2 years providing much needed housing for the boomin population. Many say it's the eyesoar of Port Noir but if you ask the people living in what is nicknamed "Little USSR" they love it. The community spirit is high here and they feel like a little town of their own. Everything they need is close by. The only thing missing is good shopping but they only have to take the highway and soon they will arrive at the Americana Malls where they can shop until they drop.

    001.jpg

    002.jpg

    003.jpg

This was stage1 of the development completed in 1958. A few older smaller houses are still around making the little community more diverse.

    003b.jpg

The area is full of greenery and parking is plentyfull.

    004.jpg

The railroad leading down to the harbour runs straight thru here. There are no stops there for passengers but freight goes thry here daily.

    005.jpg

Theese highrises make up the most of the apartements here. They need much repairs as not much have been done since they were built. Theese buildings were completed in 1959. Some have voiced that they should be demolished and replaced with something that fits into the rest of the city. But the people here wont have any of it. Any plands for re-development here is quickly met with protests for the residents of the area.

    006.jpg

This were the last of the highrises to be built in this area. They were completed in 1960.  Renovations have started in this area. The buildings are in desperate need of new plumbing/heating etc. However no changes will be made to the exteriors. Ironical that older buildings in Port Noir that been around for little or more than 100years have stood the test of time better. They just took quality into consideration in the old days...

    008.jpg

Well thats it for today. Lets end it with a nice nightshot of the newest highrises built in Port Noir. Theese buildings surround the commercial district and have added a huge population increase. They were met with lots of protest though. Many people think tall buildings ruin the city skyline and the small town feeling. However the demand for housing is far too high to countinue to expand the city outwards.

So...why do they not want the area revitalized I wonder? I would hate to live in Cold War-esque apartment blocks, but...to each his own I guess.

Nice job on Little USSR. The quickly built, prefab apartments are well used.
